FINDING A CASE IS DRIVING ME NEAR CRAZY :p

Yeah that's the thing though, I would never lay my iPhone flat with the screen facing down on a table.

Do we know if the CPU (and GPU) are underclocked to optimise battery life? It's easy to find specs of what it's using but not how they're utilised.

You need a new sim, 4s is microsim (unless yours has breakaway points) or you have the technical ability to make a sim into a microsim

I’m just gonna mention that you don’t need much technical ability. all you need are some clean scissors and a paper template to make sure you cut along the right lines. I’m a total klutz and cut up my old one easily and without incident.

the microsim essentially cuts all the plastic trim off the old sim so it’s not hard to cut - there’s no outlying danger zones to stay clear from.

if someone doesn’t want to get a new microsim from their carrier for whatever reason, cutting the existing sim to microsim dimensions is dead easy.

Since that dude responded that this works with iPhone 4S, this is now the one I'm leaning towards. Did it come with a screen protector?
Yes, It does come with a screen protector. As well as a nice little microfiber cloth.

FINDING A CASE IS DRIVING ME NEAR CRAZY :p

Tell me about it! It took me two days of reading/watching reviews to find the case(s) I went with. Picking the phone is easy, the case not so much. What kind of case are you looking for? I read about so many I can probably recommend or point you in the right direction.

Is there any point in doing this?

When I get my 4S (hopefully) on Friday, I can't just start it up and activate it?

Here is my current shipping information:

The possibility, however slight, of me getting this before Friday is driving me crazy.

9to5mac is reporting that some (Sprint) customers have received notification that their orders have already shipped via next day air. Could these start turning up tomorrow?

I don't get the point either — maybe the original question was taken the wrong way (or maybe I took it the wrong way). There's no need to supply or modify your own sim unless you need to for a specific reason (not sure what that would be). Just activate your phone via iTunes and all of your contacts and backed-up content will be synced.

What is the need of the SIM card? I mean do I need to put my current 3GS sim card into my 4S? What is contained on that card?

Graft Leverage Case

I really like the design of this one but I can't find much along the lines of consumer feedback - just journalist reviews.

Anyone have any experience with Element Case?

I saw a thread about the Graft but can't find it atm. If I do I'll reply. I think the one thing I remember is that it was on backorder for like 3+ weeks. * Edit *here is the thread I saw http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1217675 people are saying 6+ weeks wait time, might explain why there are no reviews really.

Here is a lengthly discussion on the Element Case on Mac Rumors http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=988639

Both of those cases look sexy, but I couldn't see paying the prices they were asking for them.

I bought my 4S unlocked from Apple. Doesn't come with a microsim. My carrier charges $10 for a microsim. I just want to put my current 3G sim in my 4S and thats it.

not if you’re getting a phone from a carrier and getting a new sim.

But I got my 4 unlocked and delivered via mail so I just wanted to use my existing sim so I chopped it up.

Cool.

I'm getting my 4S thought AT&T. Glad I wont have to fuck with any of that stuff.

OMGGGGGG.

my ups screen is the same as yours.

I can only hope it changes tomorrow.

I called today to change the address, sadly they have to do it tomorrow since ups is closed.

Can't wait

NVM, mine just updated with tracking number as well. From what someone on Macrumors who works at UPS was saying though, they often get them at the warehouse a few days early, and then hold on to them until the day they need to ship it to get it to you on release date.

But, he also says inevitably a few slip through the cracks and get delivered early. *crosses fingers*

Awesome, thanks for the threads. I'll keep an eye on the Graft one especially and see what feedback is like rolling in. I'm a sucker for that latch setup. I won't mind dropping the money if it's going to last a long time.

I have a quick question about my upgrade to the 4S. Do I need to take the SIM card from my current 3GS iPhone and put it into my 4S? Any ideas?

No, it'll just transfer over. Don't worry about your sim card at all.

Graft Leverage Case
I've been looking at cases and am almost certain I'll just be careful and go without. Most cases are atrocious... This thing, however, is making me reconsider (and will keep me looking at other options).

You people are spending way too much money on cases and screen protectors. Order your gear from DealExtreme.

Cases are like $4 and screen protectors are next to nothing. Also free shipping worldwide. I use DE for these types of purchases. I currently use this case with my iPhone 4. It has the apple branding and FCC stuff on the back which makes it look amazing, plus it was $4.

The link to the case you use does not show the apple logo on the back of it... Was that a custom option or something?

Holy shit, 3-6 weeks for the Leverage to ship. Jeez....

That doesn't look that bad actually.

This is from an Apple Store employee on the Something Awful forums:

You can purchase AppleCare+ at any time during your normal AppleCare coverage, even at the time you damage the phone. You'll just have to pay the $99 plus $49 if that happens.

You don't even have to purchase it beforehand. You can literally take it into a store, show it to a Genius and they will offer to set you up with AppleCare+ for $99 and then at that time you can use the $49 claim to get your phone replaced and still have the second replacement available throughout the rest of the term.

This is what we are being trained to tell customers and do in our market, officially from Cupertino.

It actually makes sense, if you think about it.

My Verizon order says expected ship 10/14, its uhhhh, going to be next day air right? I didn't see anything about shipping speed when I ordered it. Here's to hoping i'll get mine a day early like I did with my current 4.

5 days away and I'm still flip flopping between naked iPhone or protection.

What should I do!

Decide when you pick it up. You can always add protection later.

I assume you are talking about cases and not AppleCare.

Thanks for confirming that, good to know.

What color are most of you going with?

To be clear, it's from a guy on a message board. I can in no way confirm that this will happen for sure; though I do believe this is the way it will go down.

Yeah, cases. I'm getting Applecare+ so that's why I'm leaning toward going naked.

That is awesome if true. I'll be talking to the someone at the store about it on Friday to make sure.

Sticking with my iPhone 4 until next revision, but I go with a case due to paranoia. I am using a regular black Incase case right now, but the science and engineering versions of these bad boys should show up this week. So excited.

Sometime today my AT&T order switched from "Backordered" to "Processing."

Things are looking up for a Friday delivery.

Can you take a screen shot of what you mean? Mine looks like this right now:

Edit: Mine looks different.

The downside with deal extreme is that if you get something that was damaged in transit, it isn't even worth it to send it back. I ordered a bunch of stuff from there, and honestly i've never used any of it. Some damaged screen protectors, some gs2 cases that are too small and i'd have to modify them to use the buttons properly, and some video adapter cables that don't work. If you get a phone case that leaves the buttons exposed you should be fine, but i'd rather pay a bit more to other shops that have better quality stuff. I might get a bunch of iphone cases as xmas presents tho lol.

Grr... AT&T Premier site is still showing "processing" and "backordered".

I swear to God if they fuck me...
