Have you tried doing it online?

I work for RadioShack as a lowly Sales Peon. eROES makes me put tiered data on, and when I call the retail support lines they're like "lol no" which has me all pissy. When I get to work today, I'm going to call my rep and see if there's a workaround.

This also brings about the reason I'm excited for the iPhone. I'm an android user, but I love selling the iPhone, and I love it when new smartphone customers get iPhones. I don't want one myself, but that's just because I like to set my own UI up. The iPhone is an awesome device for people that just want an elegant, simple phone.

I'm going to make so much money in the next month! Thanks Apple!

Is the white available through AT&T if you upgrade a line? All I see are blacks.
Click the black one and on the product page there's s white/black toggle box on the left and a drop down box on the right.

Well, good luck to you. Don't let those bastards push you around!

I feel super nervous about it too. I forgot the add that I live in a small (ish) town in Illinois, so I'm not sure HOW much of a demand there will be. Thing is I cant line up or camp out anymore. I have work. :(

If I order thru AT&T are they offering release date arrival?
Yep, so far it looks like they are still holding the Oct 14th date for arrival...but the longer you wait the less realistic that becomes. I believe for the iPhone 4 people were told they would get them on the day, only to later be told they were coming later.

Bit of a pickle you're in, for sure :(

Now that it's sunk in that I'll be getting my phone at launch, I realized that the package is addressed to my mom and not myself.

I was able to update my address after the order but I'll probably contact Apple once I'm at work. Though only after if I can't resolve the shipping addressee, since we both live in the same house.

Any particular concern if you both live in the same house? Like they won't let you sign for it or something?

What does the phone being GSM and CDMA entail? Does that mean you can take the phone with you overseas without paying crazy overseas data rates?

Pretty much every carrier in the world is on a GSM network, so having a world phone just means that your phone can work regardless of where you are. Anytime you use your phone in other countries the data/voice/messaging rates are CRAZY CRAZY though. You can add some kind of world package to your plan, but they typically offer you very little for a lot of money.

World phone is really more of a benefit for Verizon/Sprint customers since they are CMDA vs. AT&T who is GSM.

nevermind found it.

This is for those holding out still

The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a contract commitment. You can activate and use it on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T in the United States.* The unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S will not work with CDMA-based carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.

So you can buy an unlocked 4S but it won't work on Verizon or Sprint? Even though it can receive a CDMA signal? And 3G won't work on T-mobile? Ugggh, what's the point?

It means you can take it overseas period. CDMA-only phones just won't work at all in many markets. Also, it supports Micro SIM cards, meaning you can swap in a new SIM at a place you're visiting for cheaper calling. (I presume... do they still offer the pay-as-you-go SIMs in Europe?)

Just the little fact that I don't want her to open the package really. :P

I can tell her obviously that I have a package coming next week, but at the same time it's easier when it's actually addressed to me so she doesn't bother with it and just signs.

I'd actually give her my old 3GS - but she doesn't seem too interested in it. She'd prefer a simpler feature phone to be honest.

Yeah, I'm really bummed about it because I don't know what to do!! ARGH.

Well thanks for you help. Glad someone responded to me, makes me feel a little better hah.

You'd be surprised, at least if my own family is any indicator.

My aunt who is as tech-unsavy as they come loves her iPod Touch. She plays dumb casino games on it all the time. My mom has an iPod Touch as well and she rents movies and whatnot to watch on flights since she's always on the go...also completely tech-unsavy.

It seems like as long as they know what the App Store is and what iTunes is...they start playing around.

I imagine it's the comfort of always having an obvious way to fix whatever problem they are having. "What's going on right now? I don't know what my phone is doing...uh...um...home button!" and they're back to sanity to start over.

May be worth giving it to her and see what she thinks after using it for a bit. If she's not a big fan of paying for data plans, though...well, that's another problem :)

I just recieved an email from AT&T that says my order will ship 14-21 days. Is that standard or shout I run to best buy and see if they are still taking pre-orders

i sent my mom my 3GS and she was over the moon, best of all she mastered it pretty quickly
My mom looks at my phone at times like she wants it and then becomes cold to the idea. *laughs*

I can try again to convince her to take it since she's been eligible for an upgrade for years now, but I shall weigh her interest. She took pretty well to my old iPod touch and I'll be giving her my 2nd gen iPod shuffle to work out with.

Obviously if she takes my 3GS, I'll get her on the 250mb plan since she's not a heavy data user.

why in a hurry. you are still getting the phone arent you

Ordered on Sprint. Our corporate discount with them is the smallest, but the monthly is still cheaper and I get unlimited data. Skipped the 64GB for the 16GB + iTunes Match.

So did it get better after I left at 5am or what happened?

Reports on another forum are saying Sprint's site is still acting up as of 10am, same with AT&T.

I took this from another forum post from about an hour ago:

Finally got through and was told that their system is having a problem with orders placed using Visa credit cards. Apparently several orders placed via Visas are not going through. I asked the woman if AT&T was letting people know about this, since this is kind of a huge day for phone ordering, etc. She said they just found out about it, which to me pretty much means they have no intention of letting people know. So I guess spread the word: If you're ordering from AT&T, don't use a Visa, or their system may refuse to place your order, whether you get the email or not.

The overage charges on those 250MB plans are confiscatory.

Yikes! When did you preorder?

I can't believe those of you with an iphone 4 are upgrading. It's really not a big upgrade...

Okay... so my wife and I are on a family plan... I reserved two iphones from apple.com..

but when I go to pay for it... it looks like each iphone has to sign up for separate 2year contracts... how do we do this for a family plan?

I tried calling Apple, but they have a message saying they are receiving too many calls and can't answer.

So? Anybody have a family plan and upgrade through apple.com?

quad,

yah that option was grayed out while the other options were modifiable (billing, payment, etc)

thought that was odd.

So what did you do?

I did... You have to have a different "contract" for each phone. That's true for whatever subsidized phone you get. Standard operating procedure among US telecomms.

True, but since she mostly surfs the Internet on her MacBook when at home, we have an unlimited family texting plan with AT&T (she's retired from them) and usually asks me to look up things on my phone when out - she shouldn't be too bad with the 250mb.

Again, I'll gauge her interest when I tell her later tonight or in the morning tomorrow.

Did anyone get an e-mail from Sprint yet? I stayed up until 4:30 this morning and finally got through to get one, but still no e-mail.

No. I can't even log in to their site because I need to click on a confirmation link. Thank goodness I wrote down my order number. Phoned them up this morning and they confirmed my new account and my order is in their system. They told me to try in 48 hours to log in or set it all up when the phone arrives.

People said that about 3G->3GS too, and I think over time that showed itself to be a larger upgrade than originally thought.

On hold with Sprint, trying to figure out the status of my upgrade reset. Hope I don't miss out on my chance to pre-order the 4S.

EDIT: Nice. The Sprint site is down. Wonderful.

ironfist: apple site was slow as hell until I was able to get a reservation around 130-2a. site was quick this morning.

kevo: I had it shipped to me

I live in the UK and it seems that only 2 year contracts are available.
Looks like I am buying a different smartphone now.

Like a simple confirmation email that your order has been placed with order number etc? Yes, I have. Received at 4:15am, minutes after placing the order.

So, are you still on the family plan though? Or will each phone be charged a separately for minutes?

I was able to actually add both reservations to my cart, and it displays the contract correctly, but it won't let me pay "too many iPhones in your cart"
