watching a video review of the 4S and while the guy is showing off Siri, he says "I love you" to which Siri responds "I hope you don't say that to those other mobile phones." cute

Apps purchased on the phone will download to iTunes, as will music purchases, tv shows and books.

Things you buy through iTunes would be expected to sync to your phone, not wirelessly pushed. There are still download restrictions over 3G, so if you bought a 500MB game on iTunes, you aren't going to wirelessly download that.

Perhaps over WiFi that would happen, but I don't think it's set up that way.

This is incorrect. When I purchase an app in iTunes it shows up and starts DLing on my iPad and iPhone right away. This is not new with 10.5, it has been working for almost a month now.

No, he just hasn't turned on automatic downloads on in the iPhone settings.

Any app or music purchased on the Mac/PC will instantly download to the phone after that. 3G works fine, but you are right about the 20MB download limit on apps.

EDIT: I see he did turn on the settings. A setting somewhere is missing.

HOORAY! VZW charged my account and now the status says my phone will be delivered by Friday. I knew complaining online would make it happen.

Good to know. I just never buy apps through iTunes so I wouldn't really be the authority on the subject, that's for sure.

Yay my phone is in Louisville, KY! It left Shenzhen, China at 10:30PM CST on 10/10 and is now somewhere between Louisville, KY and Chicago, IL. !!! Hopefully I get it early.

I just bought a 32GB black iPhone 4S.

Someone kill me now.

Goodbye, Android. You will be missed. One of the hardest decisions I ever had to make :(

If you break your phone you can bring it in and purchase the $99 Apple Care+ and pay the $49 fee to get a replacement on the spot.
The story says that you have to buy AppleCare+ with the phone or you can't get it, although Apple seems to be contradicting themselves on that point so who knows.

Massive disappointment with O2 today. I knew they weren't taking pre-orders which was fine, I'm cool with lining up at 8am on Friday; but I've just been told that as a PAYG customer I don't count as an 'existing O2 customer' and therefore won't be able to get an iPhone 4S contract on Friday.

Not what the guys in the shop told me but I can see it right now, sitting down at 9am and them having 'computer issues' setting up a new contract on the 4S and wasting half an hour before someone gets the memo.

Real shame, I've been with them on Contract -> Simplicity -> PAYG for over ten years without a break or a problem. Now I think it's either going to be Vodafone with their recent price cut (although their data is still very light and I plan to tether to my iPad) or wait and see what Tesco offer as they use the O2 network anyhow ...

Any idea if Tesco allow tethering? Sigh, way to screw up my plans O2 :(

You will never look back. That's the same model I ordered BTW, good fer you!

Edit: Actually I've hardly used android, but the three times I did, it was mildly disappointing. Some day I may get a 7" android tablet so I have access to both app markets.

Not working for me, did you do anything different? I don't see the option to enter in my phone number/email at the Fedex or UPS website.
Use the menu bar at the top of the pages, click on track adn you'll see the option for by reference

You might want to be there a few hours earlier than that.

You are probably right, though apparently it's a non-issue now - not that I'm bitter at all!

Waiting to see what Tesco offer now;

Out of interest how data hungry is the iPhone 4 'passively' if you catch my drift?

i.e. are they constantly grabbing lots of data? My Galaxy S currently gobbles around 300meg a month with moderate usage, my iPhone 3G was a fair bit lower as I recall with similar use.

Trying to convince myself, as I don't watch large amounts of video or music over 3g, that Vodas data packages will suffice ...

64gb white pre-ordered... now to find a cheap / descent case so it wont get scratched up in a year and I can have higher resale value when the 5 comes out

You guys should be thankful you have tracking numbers... I ordered over the phone and the guy just said 'it'll be with you on Friday' no emails, tracking number, nothing. LOL.

Just got my all-white otterbox from Amazon.

The white plastic has a strange purplish-tint to it. Might return it for something else...

But will the resale value cover the ridiculous price a non-contract iPhone 5 will undoubtably cost?

I've seen a few 4s (not 4S) around in white and thought they looked fantastic. Also, I have a white iPad which actually looks pretty great in person.

I've not liked the white iPad 2s I've seen. It's something about the white front that bothers me. Like I said, I like the 3G/3GS in white and I own a white 3G, but once the white moved to the front bezel, it just... doesn't look as nice to me. Not sure why I think that.

Yep, phone number worked, it shipped via UPS, let Shenzhen China 11:40pm 10/11/2011. Was hoping to get it early.

I believe that is local time, so your shipment is likely in the US already. A coworker had a similar ship time and he was just alerted to his phone being in Louisville.

Why someone would put a phone with such wonderful industrial design in a glorified plastic lunch box is beyond me.

So when you drop and break it you don't have to shell out another $200-$400 for another piece of wonderful industrial design.

I hope you guys are right! Even if I do end up liking iOS as much as Android, I'm still going to miss Google's apps. They were always awesome, and I loved how integrated they were with the phone. I already know I like the YouTube app and Google Maps app on Android better than iPhone.

Really though, the biggest loss for me is going to be Navigation. I can always hold on to that thread of hope that either Apple will add it to the Maps app, or Google will put their own Google Maps app on the App Store with Navigation. It really is fantastic, and I think it's ridiculous Apple hasn't either done it themselves and/or asked/allowed Google to put it up themselves. Here's hoping!

The iPhone 4S looks like a fantastic phone. Same sleek form factor. HSPA+, Revised antennae, twice the horsepower, same great battery life, completely voice control, drastically improved camera and video recording. Really Good stuff.

With that said, I'm sticking with my iPhone 4 and waiting until next year. For me, I can't justify upgrading in the middle of my contract when my iPhone 4 works flawlessly to do what I want it to. I thought about upgrading for HSPA+ but realized that AT&T is garbage in NYC and that's not going to change w/ better "theoretical" max speeds.

I will wait until 2012 when the next iPhone arrives and I'll get that. I don't need the latest and greatest every year. If I could get by for two years with my iPhone 3G, I can get by 2 years w/ my iPhone 4.

I've owned a 3G and 4. Dropped both numerous times on the floor including concrete. Neither has shattered in to a million pieces yet. It's designed to be used.

It's a mobile phone, not a ming vase.

Just spend some money and get a proper GPS app for the iPhone in the meantime. I'm not even kidding when I say that they are an insanely great value.

I spent $50 like 2 years ago and have been enjoying TomTom turn by turn on iPhone ever since with free map updates and live traffic (yearly in-app purchase).

The Google solution depends on having an internet connection to really function last I checked anyways, which really limits it in my mind. Sure it's free, but with offline maps you aren't going to easily find your way through bumble-fuck America on the Edge network! Offline maps is where it's at, and unfortunately you need to take up a couple gigs of space on the phone to get a truly good solution like that to work.

Have any proof before I get super excited? That might mean I could get it early!

No proof since it's not my order, but I can recommend that you should sign up for the text alerts on the UPS site. That's how he found out the phone showed up in the states.

Obviously to prevent dents and scratches, the IPhone 4s is a $200+ investment for 1-2 years afterall which is completely understandable.

And yet my brother-in-law's 3GS shattered on its first drop after he decided to use it caseless.

Just because you have incredible luck doesn't mean we all do.

The general consensus seems to be that iPhone 4S is made for people who DON'T have an iPhone 4. I think you'll be happy with your decision, especially if you're able to get the iPhone 5 subsidized on your contract. Will be real nice :)
