Best Apple line up experience. I came in early so I left work at 3pm. I was heading to go pick something up and decided what the hell, stopped by Apple Store (in Pacific Centre). iPhone 4S' still in stock, they told me to line up outside. Got a card, had to wait outside for 30 minutes, got moved inside, had to wait 30 minutes. Got the colour and size I wanted. An hour long process. I had waited 5 hours for my iPhone 4.

Only disappointment is Siri not supporting restaurant and maps yet in Canada. I really hope they change this before 2012.

Holy crap activating this thing on Sprint has been a nightmare so far. Been on the phone for an hour trying to talk to a rep since it won't let me activate it online. This elevator music makes me want to commit a felony.

Weird. It was simple as hell for me. I got my Applecare+ ordered (they billed my account), I activated the phone under another line (my line wasnt up for an upgrade), and then they switched the phone to my number.

All of that work done with no problem.

I activated by chat in like 10 minutes. I dunno if they chat on weekends but the phone techs are crap in my experience

This is what I would have done had Chat been available. But since it's after 12am....

Anyway, finally got a rep on the phone and she was actually very helpful. Sounded kind of bored and like she was reading off of a card, but I guess that's because she's probably been called about the same thing a hundred or more times already. Anyway, she was nice and had my phone activated in 5 minutes.

Loving the phone so far. The last time I had an iPhone was the original model. I have an iPad 2 so I'm not totally out of the loop with iOS stuff, but this feels so nice. The display and camera quality are especially cool.

Spent the last hour putting on my BestSkinsEver skins.

The front and back are easy which is obvious -- but the side skins are a PITA. Nailed it though. No bubbles or anything out of place.

Keeping it off now until tomorrow when it's dry, even though I want to play with it.

I am so glad everything that was in my old iPod Touch transferred flawlessly to my new iPhone 4S. I was expecting that all my saved game data was going to be gone when transferring since I didn't back up the Touch to iCloud before I sold it last week, but it's all still there on my 4S. Good thing too since I'm still trying to perfect League Of Evil and I want to get back into Infinity Blade with the added benefit of having a more powerful devise now.

I am jealous of you lucky bastards.

I know I should wait until next year and that my 4 is fine, but this is one of the few gadgets I really feel like splurging on...

Questions for veteran iPhone users:

Where should I go/what websites for ringtones?

What are some must have apps?

Anything else I should know?

I know what you mean. I keep telling myself "I don't need to upgrade, I don't need to upgrade." Especially with how nice and smooth iOS 5 has made my 4 already.

Yeah iOS5 makes it like I have a new phone, but I can almost rationalize that playing around with Siri for a few months is worth the 2-300 dollars.

The same shit happens with games and consoles. I never play them but the nerd impulse is a hard one to control.

with all these horror stories of activation and siri server problems, i'm kinda glad mine wont be here for another week or so, hopefully they will have all this shit sorted out by then

Okay, so I biked around Austin just now and speedtested a bunch of times... in my building and in the vicinity of my building, downstream is 0.10-0.40mbps. Other side of downtown, 5mbps.

Crap :|

I don't know if I should switch carriers just due to shitty cell data in the direct vicinity of my apartment. Urgh.
I did!

For two and a half years I had garbage coverage at home and 1-2-3 bar fluctuating coverage at work. AT&T. I left them for Verizon because in my building my wife gets consistent 2-3 bars with the occasional 1 bar for a moment or so; and at work I hear and see from peeps that they have 2-3 bars consistently as well, so I figured home/office=both good!; time to switch to GTE. unlimited shmimited for my usage pattern so I lose my grandfather and I gain a reliable and stable (but potentially more costly) father.

Bye Gramps!

I have iOS 5 on both a 4 and a 4S. The 4S makes the 4 feel like some clunky POS. iOS 5 on the 4S is sooooo buttery smooth.

muhhahaha

I tried recording and moved the camera around and played it back. I do not see the shimmer i saw in the youtube videos. Can anyone else comfirm this?

Haha, went to show off Siri to my girlfriend tonight and of course it's down.

"No, I swear, it worked this morning!"

"Yeah...sure..."

Loving this phone though. Wow.

Today I went from 3G to 4GS AND discovered the neogaf Webapp. Today was a good day. A life-changing day.
AND the web app!?!?!

Go buy some fuckin lotto tickets you lucky son of a gun!

Man, I should really stop reading this thread. I'm not due for an upgrade until January. Yes, I was dumb and got a 3GS in May 2010 but my old phone had died. I was debating whether or not to just wait til Oct of next year for the 5 but I might as well get the 4S now since upgrading in Jan. should put me at Sept. 2013 for my next upgrade, right before the 5S. Then there's the fact that my 3GS will have even less value the longer I hold onto to it. Cannot wait for Jan.

Make your own ringtones using iTunes, just google it.

Thankfully I got my 4S authorized just about an hour before going to see The New Pornographers tonight. Here are some choice photos, and a video so you can see how the 4S shoots in "typical" concert environments. Keep in mind that I was fairly drunk and not doing a very good job of using the focus, so lots of these are with the default focus. I think these two show the range (from medium to super bright light) of the camera. Note that they were taken with Camera+.

This band, Telekinesis, opened and they were fucking awesome. Also, their drummer/lead singer was wearing a Captain EO shirt, which I called him out on. It was a bonding moment.

And here's the pretty girl in The New Pornographers.

Edit: Here is the video: http://www.flickr.com/photos/strikerobi/6245609966/

I was rocking out a little bit, but I think the image stabilization did a pretty good job. I mean, I'm coming from a 3GS so this entire camera is insane to me. Unlike the photos, this video was shot by the built-in camera app.

Why is the iOS keyboard about a zillion times easier to type on than the average Android alternative? The screen is smaller, but you err considerably less.

The software is smarter. It's better at detecting typos, specifically. If you miss a word by one or two letters that happen to all be next to letters in a real word, it does a very good job of noticing that.

It's just well designed, like most of the rest of iOS and Apple products. "It just works" truly does apply.

I, too, am in awe of how easy it is to use, though. Not only is the software not laggy or juttery, but the accuracy is incredible.

How is the Windows Phone 7 base keyboard?

Yes, it's definitely more intelligent. I suppose, having used an Android for the majority of this year (and previously an iPhone 4 - I wouldn't have switched if I didn't have to!) the difference is night and day. I know some people change and are perfectly happy, but that's not something I can fully comprehend.

Android is a good OS, but fuck, iOS is faster, slicker, has more attractive apps built around it (compare, say, Audible Android and its iOS counterpart) is generally more pleasurable to use. Put it this way, it displays its 'free for all' roots on a regular basis.

I'm loving my Sprint 4GS :D Kinda sucks it's like Verizon and you can't call and use the web at the same time. Siri's been kinda slow lately too. I'm loving being back to sprint in 4 years though :D

Isn't the white balance better for the 4 over the 4S in that comparison?
I don't really know photography terminology all that well, but the 4 picture (right) just looks drab in comparison.

My iPhone 4S can't connect to my home wifi network for some reason. I know it works and I have everything entered correctly because of I have couple of devices that can connect to it just fine. I just get that spinning working symbol next to my network name and nothing else happens.

The easiest way to point it out is look at the wall. That's a white wall right? So should it look white or have an orange tint in your opinion? It's about color accuracy.

What security are you using?

My god I love this thing. Like a bike to a Cadillac (3G to 4S).

Everything is running like a dream.
I made the same upgrade. Love it.

Back in 2008, everything about iPhones, smartphones, apps was "promise". There was a certain limit to everything (speed, ability, etc) that we accepted because it was early days.

Now it delivers. Everything works and it's fast.

I've been engaging with my friends more just because it's so easy to do everything. Having a slow and broken 3G has trained me to be very lazy about using many of the functions.. now its so fast that I can more easily send texts or comment on Facebook on a whim.
