Shit. I just noticed I have a dead pixel. It's just this little black spot that isn't going away.

happened to me as well. first 4S had a defective battery, second one had a dead pixel, but this 3rd/current one is perfect. :)

So I sill haven't been charged for my iPhone 4s. They held the 215$ just for a couple days when i preordered it. I got the 4s the 14th.. Still no charge. Wierd?! Anyone else???

I'll be doing the same in a few weeks once the newness anxiety has worn off and I just start tossing it in my pocket with my keys.

Why with your keys? I know it'll probably be fine, but reading that always makes me wince.

Loving my Sena Kutu, since we're talking cases again. Tight but not too tight, and it turns out I can adjust the volume through the leather which is a nice bonus. I love using the phone ceaseless though. When it's in my hand, I can't imagine covering the edges up with a bumper. The slip case was a great choice for me.

Earlier In this thread, didn't we have some Blackberry users who missed the red light that flashed when you received a new email on a Blackberry? Apparently, there's a setting that causes your iPhone to flash the camera when you get an alert. Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> LED Flash for Alerts (On)

Just tried it. Seems to only flash during the call which makes it utterly useless.

How's the 32GB holding up with you guys in terms of space management? Should I worry about 1080p videos taking up all my space? It's not often that I shoot video but I'd like the sense of security.

I've used it sporadically just to test it out and it flashes (very brightly) whenever I would normally receive a push notification for me (email, IM from Beejive, text are some examples).

Though having the phone upside down is not something I normally do so I won't be using this feature much at all.

I'm still having the issue where my 4S loses it's wifi signal mid-page load. If I turn off wifi then back on again, it won't connect. The only fix is a restart of the phone. I'm changing up the security type on my router and resetting network settings on my phone, but my 3GS and my roommate's 4 don't have this issue. Frustrating!

I'm guessing if it flashed at regular intervals whenever you had an alert or notification that was unviewed, it would kill your battery quickly if you don't notice it.

Ordered a Moshi iPouch from Amazon on Wed with one-day delivery.

Unfortunately, it didn't arrive on time. I got my $3.99 back already; but I don't think I'll get the case tomorrow in time before I leave for the weekend :-(

In any case, anyone else use this? I definitely want to "go naked" with the 4S. The white glass is just too sexy to ugly up with a case, IMO. That said, I want just a little protection when the thing is in my pocket or I throw the phone in a bag. This seems to do the trick. Thoughts?

I haven't taken many videos (about 3) but I have 81 apps and 200+ songs and there's still 16gb left. If you have the extra $100, 64gb will get you better resale value later but it's not a necessity at all

I don't use this, but I use one of those iPod socks they gave me when I purchased a Touch for my iPhone for and it works great. Use it for the same reason, I don't want to put anything on the phone I just wanted something to put on it when I was carrying it around, and since I've owned it I've only ever put two small scratches on the thing (both on the back).

I was on a jailbroken iPhone for quite sometime and then hopped onto this 4S. Are there any apps like locksmith or whatever that will password protect certain apps? I appreciate any help

Thanks, Cloudy! I'm actually getting one off eBay US (I live in Saudi Arabia) and the
prices for the unlocked 64GB model are ridiculous.

So I caught my phone red handed draining its battery whilst on the charger. Who knows how much this has screwed up my battery since I bought it... Anyway, I was tired of not being able to prove this bullshit was happening on its own so I downloaded batteryLogger Pro last night and let it monitor my battery in the background. As I suspected, it will out of the blue start draining (when it's at 100% charged and running on electricity instead of battery) to ~90% or so before it begins to recharge itself.

WTF, fully charged battery icon but has seemingly plunged to 97%:

Still displaying fully charged icon, plunging more:

Until it reaches this point (give or take), then it will recharge automatically:

I'm not totally sure it's my battery, I'm starting to wonder if my apartment complex has faulty wiring or some shit. My MBP remains on the charger all the time and when I checked it just now, by changing it from displaying time to percentage, it was sitting at 96% instead of 100%. I'll be out of town this weekend so I'll let the battery monitor run to see if the battery really is the culprit or if it's an electrical outlet issue. Regardless, since it hasn't been two weeks yet, I'll probably get it replaced since its capacity maybe borked by now.

Plug into a USB for charging (computer/laptop) or go buy a voltage meter (ammeter possibly) and watch it. The first option is the easier of the two.

I frickin' love Siri. Got a text from my girlfriend while I was driving, had Siri read it to me then dictated my reply. Siri's voice recited the original text in a way that sounded pretty damn natural for a computer voice, and nailed my reply with no mistakes. Awesome.

Was expecting a different word here... :lol

Well I had somewhat of a weird thing happen last night, I exchanged my 16gb for a 32gb and when i restored from a backup it restored all the apps i ever had on the phone (even the ones i had deleted from it) and none of my pictures. Did a restore 3 times with the same result, had to revert to a backup from last week and then i finally got all my pics back.
Still not sure why it did this but now im a bit paranoid about the new backups not saving everything.

My first iPhone's coming in the mail. I signed up with a 2GB data plan per month, am I going to have to limit everything I do? I don't stream much video, but I listen to a lot of music on last.fm, pandora, soundcloud, etc. I just have no idea what 2GB means in terms of a months use.

And should I be downloading apps on my computer then putting them on my phone or does downloading them to my phone cost on the data plan? I'm in the US btw.

So if I went to the Apple store to get a new iPhone because mine has a dead pixel, would I be able to retain all my data/apps/settings/contacts etc?

Yup, just make a backup! Though I've heard that sometimes gamesaves can get screwed up.

2GB is a lot. You'll be fine. There are some apps (games mostly) that can be quite big at 100-200mb+ territory that you'll probably want to download via wifi as to not use up a big chunk of your cap using data. You wouldn't really want to download something that big on 3G anyways due to how long it'd take.

You can't download apps that are larger then 20MB over 3g.

Uuuum, they all do this, every Apple device. It charges up, and then discharges down to around 95 or 90% depending on the device and then charges up again. I believe they do this so as to only put stress on one cell to prolong the battery over a long time.

http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

So my question to you is why do you think this is a bad thing?

I wouldn't worry about it. My iPhone did it, my iphone4 does it, my iPad does it, my MacBook does it.

Where do e-mail attachments go and how can I delete them?

They go in the message body. If it is an unsent email composed by you you can select the item using the contextual menu and select delete. If the email is sent by another party you can delete the entire mail, but not specifically it's attachment. The iPhone does not download attachments unless requested*, and it only caches them unless you save the attachment into another app such as photos or a PDF viewer.

*not 100% sure, perhaps it downloads/caches really small attachments automatically.

It seems to save all attachments I've downloaded - i.e. when I view an older e-mail, that attachment is still downloaded and still available. I wonder where it is storing these files and how to delete them...

I believe they're cached until you delete the email, or it falls outside the limit you set. Mine is set to show 50 recent, so once the email becomes the 51st, it and the attachment is removed from the cache but left on the server.

Soooo. Due to being on my Dad's business account I was unable to preorder at midnight like the rest of GAF. Instead my Mom went in the following day and preordered at an AT&T store. This resulted in not getting one day one, and thus the website has said from the moment she put in the preorder that it would ship between October 21st (so today) and the 28th. But of course AT&T has a nice little asterisk saying this is subject to change. What's the likely hood this thing will get out during this time? I didn't expect to see it shipped today really, but from horror stories from buying at actual cell phone providers rather than Apple stores, I'm wondering if this might take longer than normal... I sure hope not, my piece of shit phone is on its death bed and might not make it past the drunkenness of Halloween.

This. I'm pretty certain this is exactly how it works.

So, I have a regular aux in jack in the front of the head unit in my car, but I really don't want to mess with plugging and unplugging my 4S every time I get into my car.

Behold, the solution for my lazy ass!

Does anyone have any experience with the Tunelink? Are there better options out there?

Here's what I use:
http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=525857
(also marketed as AirCast Auto)

I get in the car, hit the button, and my music starts playing over Bluetooth. Single-tap for pause, double-tap for next, triple-tap for previous, and hold for Siri. You can do calls with it as well (there's a mic on the button). The best part, though, is that my phone can be linked to this AND my car's HandsFreeLink at the same time, so I can place/receive calls with the steering wheel controls while using the Belkin for music.
