No.
Yes, if the phone is jailbroken. You can get something like a back button too if the phone is jailbroken

Back button doesn't bother me. But I guess I should jailbreak it. tired of typing this password in >_>.

I'm at 13% battery, the Usage indicates the phone's been in use for 5 hours and 10 hours standby. I've been using wifi all day.

Is this normal? Screen brightness is on auto and is at 55-60% near as I can tell

Depends on your apps you're using and how good your reception is.

This is from about 30-40 percent brightness and mostly 3g browsing and facebooking, plus some music and some messing around with Siri, a bit of texting etc.

This keyboard is trash and apple should feel bad about it. I make so many mistakes and need to blame them. For my life, really.

Really? This keyboard is a lot better than my droid 2's keyboard. The only thing I miss is my Swiftkey x keyboard I had. Great for drunk texting.

iOS one keyboard was perfect. Something about it is off now. Idk.

While I'm griping it's insane to me you can't call someone from the messages app. Like if I'm texting a dudie and wanna call him up voice style I have to exit out and go to the phone app.

No that doesn't sound right.

At 5 hours of use & 10 hours of standby, I'm usually at around 40% of battery life and that's with my screen set at about 85% brightness.

Press the top header to go to the top of the conversation, then you can email/facetime/call from there.

You, know, I very much preferred the earlier keyboards too. I made way less mistakes.

I think they may have removed the feature whereby the system predicts what your words will be and change the target touch zone for the next best key. Before, for example, you typed "chanc", then went to press 'e', the touch zone extended to the keys around it. That is, you could slightly press 'r' or 'w', and it would show an 'e' (you could see the little pop be an e).

I think the more fully featured autocorrect and autospelling is perhaps a bigger task on the system, so it is definitely changed somehow.

I always accidentally press that stupid voicetype microphone button too. I sure wish that wasn't there. And then if you want to use Emoji too it cuts the spacebar in half.

Now that you guys mention it, I do also feel that the iOS 1 keyboard was better. I had a first gen iPod Touch... I would rarely make mistakes when I typed and it was my first time using a touch screen device.

Now with my iPhone 4S & iOS 5, I sometimes make mistakes when typing. I believe that they added more to the keyboard in terms of buttons and therefore the spacing has changed.

If not that then it's something because I feel the same way. I don't think the keyboard is crap (far from it) but there's something a bit off about it in comparison to how the previous iOS keyboards were.

It drives me absolutely insane. I can't stand it. Its seriously my biggest gripe with the device. Which is really really frustrating. When I had the original iPhone I never had any complaints about the keyboard ever. Now I can't go 20 minutes without having to correct or backspace something. Its bananas and really needs to be fixed.

I don't have any problems typing on my 4S. I used to be a landscape only typer but I started with the 2 thumb method in portrait not long ago and now I'm good that way too.

Anyone know of a good and easy to use imgur uploader? All the ones I see on the app store say they dont support accounts, and I just want to upload to my own sign in.

Having a few new issues with my 4S. Safari will just randomly close every now and again (even tried clearing cookies etc) and randomly my screen will flip out like I've pressed something else or something. never had these problems with my 4. Wonder whats up. Maybe just needs a restart or something.

I use picup, and while i never used it in an account (I doubt it is compatible), it stores the upload history on the phone.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but going to google searches on safari there was a button near the top that I accidently pressed and I'd like to know what it was for. I don't know if it was google asking me to enable location based searches or what. It was a grey box near the top.

Anyone know?

Google telling you that they're going to put all your information together to more easily sell to advertisers (new privacy policy notification).

Is anyone else having the problem with the Camera from the lock screen?

When I open the camera from the lock screen, it starts the application, but the "shutter" never opens.

I can replicate this error roughly half the time. Is anyone else stuck with this? Is it normal?

Anybody having frequent problems with dropped calls on the 4S? I frequently have dropped calls with "call failed" alerts in spite of having five bars and 3G access. This happens surprisingly more often than it did with my broke ass problematic 3GS.

I had this issue with ATT on my iPhone 4. Haven't had an issue since upgrading to a 4S on Sprint.

Google has one privacy policy for all their services now instead of a separate one for each (Search, YouTube, +, Gmail, etc.)

Anyone having problems with dropping network signal? Like one moment I have full bars than Searching... than No Network and than I get network back. It happens really often by randomly.
I've tried everything save for new SIM card :(

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK.
My iPhone 4s took a little dip in some water...

I tried to turn it off but it just keeps turning back on.
I don't think the ear piece works, and I thought the speaker didn't work when I tried to play music, but it works when I activate Siri?

Right now its just in a pot of uncooked rice...I don't know what to do :C

Ouch, that sucks. Not much you can really do except pray that it'll work after letting it dry out in the rice for a while.

Apple employees can easily see when a phone is water damaged (there is a water sensor inside that changes colors or something), so they're not going to repair or replace it.

You might as well remove the two screws on the bottom, slide out the back plate and remove the battery, to help things out.

Providing you have a pentalobe screwdriver though. Scumbag Apple for changing that! *hugs philips screws equipped iPhone 4*

Warranty voiding issues protect Apple from having to do a free service (replacing or fixing) but it's still possible for them to do it if they feel like it. It's not uncommon to hear of these stories. I have one myself, cat chewed magsafe cord, Apple replaced it for free.

And even when you're not so lucky, there's no reason why Apple shouldn't fix/replace the device it for a fee.

So all my imessages are now saying not delivered even though people are receiving them... what gives?

Hmmm. That might actually be it, or at least it seems to more aptly hit on the type of mistake I make more often now. Just seems like I will hit the wrong letter much more easily.

4S if you want a phone now. 5 if you can wait until the Fall.
It's getting so hard to wait for the next iPhone. The lag on the iPhone 4 is getting unbearable. I figure it'll be definitely worth the wait, however, as I would imagine the lag on the sixth generation iPhone will be completely negligible.

That and the CPU will be bottlenecking the 3G (and 4G) speeds a lot less.

So all my imessages are now saying not delivered even though people are receiving them... what gives?

I think this is more of a problem with the phone not recognizing a signal from your network, mine does this when I'm in very limited coverage, says "message send failure" but people will receive them (iMessage only as far as I've seen).

Ow that sucks. I dropped my original iPhone 1g in my dog's water bowl and it never worked the same after that. Had a problem with call clarity and the sleep/wake button had to be pressed down so hard for it to respond.

Thankfully I never had water problems with my 3Gs even after a couple years of owning it.

With the 4s I couldn't take the chance. I bought a Lifeproof case as soon as I could. Since then, my phone takes frequent trips with me to the gym's pool and I take it in the shower every morning to watch Netflix shows to help me wake up, and I really don't have to worry about water damage anymore unless it falls in water deeper than 6 ft.

I asked this in the iPhone 4 thread but no-one answered so some help would be appreciated.

I dropped my iPhone and the glass shattered. The phone still works though. From what I've read you need to replace the glass and the screen as they are fused together. I was wondering if anyone had any experience replacing a screen themselves and how they found it? Any insight would be helpful, thanks.

I am not sure if this was posted before but I was reading an Apple.com messageboard concerning the shit battery life on the 4s and a solution was discussed that is working for me.

Turning off the raise to speak option seems to fix the way the 4S rapes the battery on standby. Still not as good as the 4, but it has been acceptable in the 5 hours since I have done this. Hopefully I won't lose 15-20% on standby overnight tonight the way I normally do.

If this is a wide spread bug I am kind of amazed Apple would let Siri ship like that.

Replacing an iPhone 4/4s screen is fairly easy as long as you keep track of the screws and where things should go. Print out the iFixit guide. DON'T try and be a cheap-ass and buy just the glass. The LCD is glued onto the glass and you will damage it trying to separate them. Just spend the extra and get the glass/LCD/digitiser assembly, they're not that much off eBay, and they'll come with the tools needed too.

Figured this'd be the best place to ask, but does anyone know if there's a haptic (vibrating) keyboard feedback app for a jailbroken 4S? There seems to be plenty for the 4 and older, but because the 4S uses different tech to the last, none of the apps on Cydia seem to work :(

In related news, T-Mobile is investing in a 3G network for unlocked iPhone users: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5573/tmobile-makes-lte-on-aws-official-in-earnings-report

In recent months, T-Mobile has been engaging in a number of practices to further its efforts to refarm PCS 1900 spectrum which it currently fills with GSM carriers. Efforts such as offering its entire "4G" collection of phones for free on contract signal the carrier's intention to get more subscribers on WCDMA, and in other markets with lots of PCS users have already reported seeing WCDMA on 1900 MHz PCS. In addition, the move will enable subscribers with unlocked iPhones in the USA a chance to get off of EDGE and onto 3G WCDMA. The absence of the iPhone is something T-Mobile identifies in their report as a "significant cause of contract deactivations," and more deployments of 1900 MHz WCDMA in conjunction with plans to offer more support for iPhone users are no coincidence.

Thanks. It looks fairly straight forward but was just looking for people that had experience. It also gives me a chance to change the panels to white!

So I got my iPhone from the repair place. They said there wasn't any water damage but the proximity sensor was screwed up. Do you think I could get that fixed for Apple? I'm pretty sure 80 dollars for a new proximity sensor is overkill.
