I've tried finding where in this thread but to no avail. How do I download those themes to my iphone?

I have a non jailbroken 2.0.1 firmware iPhone 3G.

Jailbreak it and then ask again. ;) But wait for 2.0.1 to be jailbroken first.

Its not that important to me at all. I was far to enamored with all the other features of my OG iPhone to even miss it, and the same holds true with the 3G. The viewmymessage.com thing works fine, especially since it links you to the site from the text.

That link won't work in Safari, so it is kinda useless on the phone.

If the usernames and passwords weren't captchas, maybe it wouldn't be so bad to use the viewmymessage.com site. Ideally, though it lacks some security, they should link you to them tinypic/tinyurl style w/o login, but having a unique id only you see.

I have a few quick questions regarding the iphone and flash. Now sites like Gametrailers.com doesn't work on the iphone b/c of the version of flash.

Is iphones safari capable of being upgraded to allow flash to work from sites like gametrailers?

Is this something that can be done "jailbroken" or is it even possible to expect an update from apple that will allow newer version of flash to work?

Thanks!

No flash on iPhone. Not now and not for the foreseeable future.

Gametrailers posts most of their videos in Quicktime too though, which Mobile Safari does support.

Everything flash related basically comes down to adobe making a flash client for the iPhone. Until then we won't see any flash support, but I don't see why Apple wouldn't have them working on one.

Apple doesn't want Flash on the iPhone. They want sites to convert their video to work on the iPhone. And it's working, albeit slower than I'd like.

Geez.. That was my next question. So apple's phone doesn't support quicktime streams either :( And I'm guessing you can't download videos from the iphone safari in mp4 and play them on the phone?

Thanks for the quick answers guys, I'm planning to pick one up next month but honestly this is the worst missing feature to me on the web browser side :(

Flash on OSX runs like an absolute dog. Word is they never even put Flash through a performance analyzer. So it makes perfect sense that Steve doesn't want a piece of crap Flash running on the iPhone which is going to have junk performance and chew through battery life due to inefficient code.

Flash 10 beta 2 for OSX is supposed to have significant performance increases but still isn't up to par with the Windows version at all, and one of the dev. blogs seems to blame the compiler tools.

Adobe has already said they have a beta version for Flash on the iPhone nearly ready to go, and have said that it's more powerful than the traditional mobile version of Flash. However, for some reason, Adobe and Apple have a contentious relationship at times, and Apple doesn't seem too crazy about adding Flash to the phone.

quicktime streams work fine. I think you read the post you quoted incorrectly.

Could it be...

- because Flash runs like ass on OSX?
- all the Universal binary versions of Macromedia products run like ass on OSX as well?
- they kept blaming Apple for the network save bug for CS3 on 10.5.2?
- there won't be a 64-bit version of Photoshop until CS5 while Windows will get a 64-bit CS4?

Well, this can be the subject of an entirely different thread, but both sides blame the other for those issues, and the history of their relationship dates back years, with both companies running hot and cold on the other at various times.

Dont forget Aperture versus Lightroom, and Mac Users not needing Adobe's horrid bloated PDF reader.

With the end result being no Flash on the iPhone, and video sites debating whether or not to provide an iPhone version due to the huge userbase.

Which is fine by me, since you get higher quality video with no Flash ads.

Has anyone had Maps crash on them? Yesterday I would open up Maps and it would load for about 3 seconds and then crash back to the main screen. I did a restart and same thing. I synced it up, and same thing. Maps would just not work at all. Finally, I tried opening up a Google maps link in an email (because it goes to the Maps application), and it opened up and now works like a charm. Definitely a weird bug. Anyhow, if that happens to anyone else, just open up a Google maps link from the email application and it should fix it.

Man, typing on the iPhone in Mail is still super sluggish occasionally.

I tried activating an international keyboard which seemed to work for some people in SMS, but no change. Whenever I try to write a response to an Exchange email, the typing has crazy lag :(

I was hoping 2.0.1 would fix this.

oh well, at least I've had no app crashes yet. (3rd party or otherwise)

I want to exchange my 8gb for a 16gb but no att stores seem to have any in stock but apple stores do. So my question is this, if I purchased a 16gb at an apple store, ported my number to the 16gb and returned the 8gb to att with the service already disconnected due to porting number to 16, can I still return it within 30 days without penalty (except for restocking?)

people have been trying to send me MMS pics a few times Apple/AT&T needs to get something worked out with this, people ask me why the iPhone can't get MMS pics.

It feels like I'm typing 5 WPM when I'm texting.. Is this a common problem?
:(

Didn't go through the whole thread (or most of it at all...) but does anyone use a spreadsheet program on the iPhone? I'm thinking about getting this instead of a winmo phone, but I need to use spreadsheets...

I'm pretty good at always hitting the correct letter, so I just "type" quickly even if the keyboard lags a bit.

It always outputs everything at the end.

Would the spreadsheet version of Google Docs work?

If it's lagging bad, just exit out of the application and go back into it. That solves it most of the time.

I really hope they add landscape typing to text messaging in a later firmware update. Who cares if it takes up a lot of the screen, it would make it MUCH easier!

I can't believe this hasn't been added yet. Just think, the iPhone has been out for more than a year already.

I tested this out for a second on my friend's iPhone and it looked like you could only view sheets, not edit them. Am I wrong? I hope so...because I use google docs a lot and that would be perfect for mobile.

No copy and paste makes this a challenge. Apple still has a huge list of firmware update requests they are working through, at least according to them.

and Apple's iPod and iPhone marketing head Greg Joswiak recently sat down with AppScout to clear up some of the confusion. Greg says that Apple has an internal priority list of features for the iPhone, and that the company went as far down the list with the 3G as it could -- and that copy / paste support simply didn't make the cut.

Mail and Safari can open Excel spreadsheets I believe...

WTF is this pathetic piece of shit! Ok, Apple needs to start screening what goes up on the store because they obviously are not. We also don't need 100 + apps that act as a flashlight.

I can't believe this is up on the website and BoxOffice was removed.

There's a great Netflix/Blockbuster compatible app called Dashbuster that I just installed. Totally free. Only problem -- you can't seem to add anything to your queue. Not sure if it's a bug in the current release, but it's really annoying!

i let my touch back up about 3 times (about 30 minutes each time), and it still does the same slow ass back up every time i sync. what's wrong here?

and now when i skip one backup, it just starts another one.

Ugh. On one hand I'd like it to be more open so that stuff like NetShare can be sold freely and shit like this would be hidden in the dark recesses of the Internet where it belongs, but on the other hand I like some kind of quality control brought by a closed system. The trouble with the current App Store is that we're getting the worst of both approaches.

I have to admit, I laughed.

Apple has to be careful with some of these app descriptions or people might end up clicking something thinking "no way can this really mean $999.99"

Like it or not, stuff is going to get through. People are acting far too shocked for something i'm surprised we haven't seen earlier.

Welp, it seems this update doesn't fix the wifi issues I and others were having with 2.0. The wait continues. (Not that I'm all that disappointed, jailbroken 1.1.4 is still fucking awesome).

And people were bitching about being able to bypass the password to buy apps. Helllllll no.

I'll be surprised if it doesn't get yanked, and fast.

If anything, they're letting too much through! FSF zealots be damned :P

hmm......

so how do i downgrade back to 2.0?

I'll lose my shit over what ever I feel like, thank you very much.

I'm surprised more people aren't pissed about a $1000 useless app. It tells me a lot about Apple's quality control.

2.0.1 sucks.

31 crashes today, 15 of which were Safari.

Exact opposite of my experience. I've had much better stability thus far. No crashes today of any kind, and I was having apps crash regularly before. What sites are you visiting on Safari? Sometimes image heavy sites can cause crashes.
