PowerSupport make the best screen protectors - http://www.powersupportusa.com/

I had one on my 2g and now my 3g. They are absolutely fantastic.

Seconded. I just switched from an InvisibleShield to a Crystal Film and it's unbelievable -- I had a friend apply it for me and I couldn't believe there was a protector on the screen when I started using the iPhone.

I’m getting an iPhone next week, and definitely plan on putting on a screen protector right away. I was reading the instructions for applying these, and it says something about a “pre-installation film” – how well does this work? Every time I’ve put on screen protectors in the past, I nearly drove myself crazy trying to get a perfect application because of one or two tiny fragments/bubbles that would get stuck under the film.

Did anybody else order one from an att store? I just ordered mine yesterday and they told me it would take 7 to 14 days. Is it really going to take that long?

No, it won't. Because you posted your question here, your new iPhone will magically appear under your pillow tonight.

Sweet dreams.

The pre-installation film is just a static piece of plastic that picks up lint and dust. If you've got a brand new iPhone then there's no reason to use it as long as you apply the actual screen protector as soon as you get it.

I had a few odd bubbles on my iPhone at first but after a few days of use they disappeared. Use a piece of cardboard to push them off. It's best not to fuck around with it so much if you see a speck of dust because you end up pulling it up then putting a finger print on the screen itself or just wasting the $7.50 you paid for it.

What a great joke. Honestly, I want to know what people's experience waiting has been. I've heard of people getting their phones in less than a week, but I've also heard some people wait longer than 3 weeks. I'm not really in that much of a hurry, just curious.

GAF, I just got my iPhone a couple days ago.

-Do I need a screen protector? Some clerk at the Apple store told me the screen was designed to be scratch resistant. And I clean off the fingerprints like once a day.

-What's the easiest way to put ringtones on this thing? The pre-included ones are all shit.

-Should I update if there are so many problems? I have AIM, Stanza, Mobile News, Pandora, and Aurora Feint, and don't want them to lock the phone up or anything.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Make sure the ringtone filename (not name in iTunes) and regular music file name (again, the actual file) are different. Voila, free ringtones!

That, or you can pay Apple $1 a pop to create ringtones out of approved music files, using essentially a stripped down audio editor.

IMO, no you don't need a screen protector. I had a 2.5G iPhone for a year before upgrading to the 3G and the screen didn't have a single scratch. Wouldn't be worth it to me.

-Should I update if there are so many problems? I have AIM, Stanza, Mobile News, Pandora, and Aurora Feint, and don't want them to lock the phone up or anything.

If you're not using a jailbroken phone there's no reason NOT to update. Though 2.0.1 doesn't fix a lot of the problems with regular ol' 2.0.

Does anyone have a name for their iPhone? Mine is called The Alchemist. Named it after one of my favorite books.

And by ships, you mean fictional space craft. ;)

My computers, iPods, iPhones, etc. are named after 8000 meter peaks. Everest, Annapurna, Shisha Pangma, etc.

My iPhone and old iPods are named after Watchmen characters. Do I win a nerd prize?

iPhone : Ozymandias

iPod Classic : Rorschach

Old iPod Nano : Nite Owl

:\

Nah, I think it's pretty common for us nerds to name our computers and other devices things like that. The strange ones are the one's that have their computers named "DELLINSPIRON1200" or "Bob's MacBook Pro". :D

Bah...all my shit's named after variants of my handle.

QubPod Touch
Rubook Pro
Qubtop (for my other lappy)

My PC is Serenity
My iPhone is River
My main hard drives are Venom and Carnage
My portable drive is Kaylee

I'm such a nerd :)

As an aside there is a nice digg app out not sure how new it is - Diggerific I think don't want to lose the page to check

I personally prefer iringer - http://www.iringer.net/

The app is basically designed to create iphone ringtones, it allows you to select 30-second segments of songs & fade-in / outand even does the export to itunes directly for you.

All of my stuff is named after characters from Tad Williams' Otherland series.

Fredericks
!Xabbu
Long Joseph
Orlando

I'm glad I'm not the only nerd.

Those are some good names there, I love Battlestar Galactica. My 80G iPod Classic is called Samanosuke and my old 3rd gen click wheel iPod is called Mitsurugi. :D

Having the option to name your iPods is all a man needs.....

I like to think of myself as a gadget geek.

The iphone should have like a demo mode. A bunch of folks want to play around with my iphone but are hesitant because it's loaded with my personal info. And yeah, I know they can just visit an ATT store or an Apple store.

I know what you mean, i have err "personal photos" on mine so I try to not show people the photo part of the iphone.

I went the same route as you and ordered through AT&T and I received my phone exactly when they said I would.

I am loving the phone btw. Enjoying it and using it much more than the PS3 I also recently purchased. My one recomendation for newbies like myself is to turn wifi when not using it. That has made a big difference on my battery life.

Apparently Apple to can remotely monitor your iPhone to determine what apps are installed, and disable them.

http://www.therawfeed.com/2008/08/rumor-apple-can-disable-apps-on-your.html

If this is true, it only justifies my decision to not go iPhone.

You must be very proud of yourself.

To me, this is not a big deal until Apple actually does it (and not just pulling things off the App Store). I look at this as a safeguard in case a malicious application *does* actually get out. The ability to do it and doing it are, IMO, two different things.

they're not "remotely monitoring". It's a website that your iphone connects to and pulls down a blacklist from to remotely disable malicious applications. It's not sending data to Apple's servers about your usage patterns. Get a grip.

Oh thank God! For a second there I thought my privacy was being violated. Good thing they're only targetting 'malicious' software. Good night and Jobs Bless!

Yeah, it could be that long because I remember when I ordered my iPhone 3G from AT&T it did take that long to come.

/looks up e71 on google

Symbian >>> Windows mobile, but the browser is still going to be ass by comparison. Mild chuckle-worthy.

No, it's not even mildly chuckle worthy and you know it :)

Other than having a larger screen, e71 beats iPhone 3G in every category, including memory expansion with 32 GB microsdhc cards, video recording, camera quality, it goes on and on.

I suggest you read a few reviews while you're at it.

Congrats on your cool phone. It's not a bad device at all. Now go post in the Official Nokia E71 Thread.

How much do those 32GB memory cards cost, again? I'll give you camera quality, but that's not a big deal to me personally.

And you sidestepped the comparatively weak browser.

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase, though. Maybe you should start an official Nokia E71 thread, and hang out there.

Haha, okay, I was asked by Tobor to post what phone I bought, but whatever. Have fun.

By the way, I own an iPod Touch and a Macbook Pro, so I am not an Apple hater. Just not sold on the iPhone.

Hey, no offense. You love your phone, and Nokia makes a lot of great devices. But picking that item you posted as affirmation for not getting an iPhone is kind of silly. It's a non-issue for me. When I read about it, I saw Apple killing off an app like the tethering program that made the rounds last week because it was against the TOS for AT&T. It would suck, but be understandable.

I await your E71 thread! :D

You were begging for someone to ask with your "I'm glad I decided against the iPhone" statement. I just obliged you.

Thanks; just the sort of thing I was looking for. I doubt it's necessary, but I'd simply rather not worry about it.

And for the record, the first model of the iPhone wasn't called 2G; it was just iPhone;-)

I second the powersupport screen protectors. I have had 2 different ones on my iphone. This anti glare one is by far the best.

Secondly

Does anyone else have a problem with their iphone turning down their ringer automatically?

Everytime I go into the settings my ringer is set on halfway....even though I just turned it up...

Beats in every category? How about web browser, touch interface, new applications, and visual voice mail?
