Really? I think $600 will be a bargain for an unlocked Iphone 3G S, the unlocked 3G was going for more when it came out, and long after.

I think when you buy the phone from AT&T, you're still bound to use it with them, only you can use it as Pay as you go, instead of on a Plan. Then again, he's probably with AT&T already so he shouldn't care.

I wish Rogers offered pay as you go with Iphone here in Canada.
 
I accidentally double tapped safari and the icon disappears and the only way to get it back is to restart. I tried will all of the other stock apps and youtube is the only other one this happens to. Has this happened with anyone else?

Is it still easy with the lastest 3G models? I wonder how easy it will be with 3GS as I'm planning to buy unlocked one.
 
I just changed the ipc file from the one i used in beta 5, now i can use the official tethering in 3.0

Whenever you do a restore, your apps will be replaced sequentially. I like to organize different apps on different pages; some pages not having the full 16 apps. This arrangement is not restored. Annoying more than anything. 3.0 has a better ability to recognize that I'm moving an app across multiple pages and flips pages appropriately. Before, it would hang. Any page that was full would cause the "incorrect app" to slide to the next page.
 
So update on my issue, not an iPhone / iPod issue, it's an iTunes issue for me. I keep all my music on an external drive, and sometimes it fucks up the location of the files. I checked my iTunes and there's a slew of albums missing in the "all albums" view. For example the previously mentioned "With Teeth" by Nine Inch Nails shows up when I go to artist and then see the albums, but doesn't show up in my entire albums list.

I'm gonna remove all my music and re-add it to iTunes. A fucking pain but it should fix the issue when I resync to the iPhone.

Oh, I see.

I've never restored my phone/ipod. I recall one time an update reordered my apps, but I think they fixed that.

I hear you on the app moving, so that's cool.

I fucked up. I left all but 2 of my apps in folders before restoring, thinking the restore would just erase that setting when they reinstalled, but no.. they're on the phone but I'm not able to get to them..

I can't decide if those are awesome or not. I think I'd prefer Zagg invisible shield to simply add grip and protecting the phone from scratches and not adding any bulk or cheap plasticy feeling.

I'm YouTubing some reviews now. Thanks for bringing these to my attention, I'm on the fence but they're definitely 2 of the coolest iPhone casings I've seen.
 
So if someone does an early upgrade (current iPhone owners who aren’t scheduled for their 2 year upgrade yet) for either $399(16GB) or $499(32GB), does this reset the 2-year contract commitment, or does the current 2-year contract remain as is?

The older iphone is then free from contract then, right?

It's not a 3.0 feature. It's just the remains of jailbreak. If you had a 2.x jailbroken phone and used bosspref to show the battery percentage, it'll still be there if you update to the official 3.0 firmware afterwards. The only way to get things back to normal is to restore your phone in DFU mode.

This is a problem because you were using a jailbroken app, right? I'm downloading the 3.0 and I'm worried about running into irreversible problems.

Can you see the apps in iTunes when you click on your phone? If so, maybe you can uncheck them so that the next time you sync, it removes them, then try to add them back. Or maybe try manual mode and see what that does.

Yeah, it was only because I was using Categories. I had to restore again without using my backup to get them into the right place. Everything is fine now.
 
soooo who's gonna be using tethering? I still can't get over how ridiculously expensive it is on O2. ok so unlimited leeching would be bad, but they could've given us like 300MB a month free right?

its more expensive than home broadband ffs.
 
Just upgraded my iPhone OG to 3.0.

Find My iPhone is live and working now. Looks like if you have an iPhone OG and you use Find My iPhone it gives you the last location logged in Google Maps. I tried it and it said my iPhone was at Home Depot (I was there two days ago), but it was sitting right next to me. I updated my location on the phone and BAM, it updated on MobileMe.

My phone has the battery percentage constantly at the top right, with no option to turn it on or off at all.

I just preordered a iPhone 3GS at my local AT&T store.

It will be there on the 19th waiting for me :D

Fuck. iTunes issue I was wondering if anyone knew the solution. I keep all my music on an external drive. I've removed everything from iTunes and now i'm trying to figure out what's going on.

Look at the screen shots below. When I highlight on Nine Inch Nails, it has 2 albums. I highlight on U2, it has 2 albums for them. When I highlite on "All Artists", it only shows me 3 out of the 4 albums. WHY?? I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on. This is causing all my issues.

Have you checked how those songs exist on the drive? What about their meta data?
 
Fuck, I may bite the bullet and go with rip you off central AT&T.

I gotta pay 400 something. I'm going to sell my iPod classic to a buddy for $249. Getting the iPhone plan (duh) but only 1000 text a month. Then use my state discount (15%) That'd put my monthly bill pretax at around 63.99........which is still $20 more than my sprint plan (unlimited everything.)

Still annoys me how they can charge you 30 for the unlimited data plan, then turn around and charge you to text...

Does the discount count toward the purchase of the plan and phone? Or just the monthly bill?

I have each album in it's own folder underneath the artist. I use mp3tag to keep all the tags up to date. Everything looks fine for those albums.
 
Been playing with my wife's new iPod Touch (2nd gen) and it's shocking how much faster/snappier it is than the iPhone. Looking forward to the 3GS, heh.
 
new question: my settings for messages does not look like this (the far right one):

it only has the 'show preview' and 'repeat alert' toggles.
in the messages app, theres no camera button. some people say they have a camera button, and sending mms's gets about 90% through before it fails (because of AT&T/etc)

any advice? i know at&t has to do shit on their end, but shouldnt i have the little camera guy in my textmessages thing/have more options in my settings?

do i have to wait for a carrier update file to 'enable' it?

Well, if my post above looks retarded, as it does to me in my safari window, it's because I'm posting from the NeoGAF web app. Basically, I said my settings for messages looks the same as yours and I don't have the little camera either.

new 'bug' - open the camera. me and a buddy of mine have a black square instead of a photo album button...clicking it still sends me to photo album, though.

Do you have any photos in your camera roll? If not, I assume you would see the black square, if you do have pics then you should see a thumbnail of your most recent pic

i had photos in my photo roll...taking a picture fixed it
 
Has anyone who pre-ordered a 3GS still waiting on their confirmation e-mail? I ordered a few hours ago and still haven't recieved it. I assume they are just backed up.
