So, what are the chances of iPhone 3G getting hacked anytime soon?

Chances are pretty good considering iPhone OS 2.0 has already been jailbroken.

Re-syncing my iPhone OG right now. This is taking forever. I've got about 400 songs left.

Wait, what I wanted to know is if there's a custom 2.0 firmware for older iPhones that have been Jailbroken and have had Sim unlocking software used on them.

shoNuff, Shozu is a pretty decent application. If you want to be on all your social nets all the time Shozu is what you want.

Hey, it's a relatively beefy portable computer. Significantly more horsepower than the DS. I'm unsure how it compares to a PSP, though.

...Man, I downloaded a bunch of free apps from iTunes, but now I have to wait till tomorrow before I can pick up the phone and try everything out.

I gotta try Enigmo and Monkey Ball
iPhone has an integrated PowerVR MBXLite chip onboard its Samsung processor. It's from the same company that built the DreamCast GPU, the CLX2. Performance-wise it seems to be an open question whether it's better or worse than a DreamCast, but it's probably in the same ball-park.

Is there going to be a need for jailbroken iPhone/Touches now that 2.0 is out? Will there be a way for jailbroken phones to install pay apps for free, for example?

I have a Touch and really want to get the app store but am not sure of the advantages over staying jailbroken.

I'm not well versed on this topic, but I haven't been able to get Push email from my company's Exchange server. I am able to sync all my messages/contacts/calendars, and even receive email via pull, but not sync. Do I need to get the Enterprise plan or have my IT manager do anything in order to enable it?

Its definitely worse, but mostly because this is a chip designed for low voltage usage and the one in the Dreamcast was faster, had more memory, and a better system architecture around it. The Dreamcast was, in fact, quite a good little console.

I wonder if all the hoopla over 2.0 firmware will soften the amount of people waiting in line for 3G. Seems like a lot of people in here have been converted to keep their 1G for now.

One of the things that I was saying earlier was that releasing the 2.0 firmware and store and all BEFORE the iPhone3G came out was a HUGE mistake. The fact that many people are rediscovering their phone all over again will lead many to not rush out tomorrow. They may still go and upgrade, but they won't with the same ferocity they would have if iPhone3G came out with the firmware FIRST and had some exclusive window of that functionality.

That's basic sales and marketing!

Ha ha. I want there to be a tempered launch. I don't want to wait out overnight. :lol

Well you will have to contend with the people who have NO iPhone as your competitors to get a new phone. Those people are salivating about what they're hearing people say about the iPhone so they will probably be in line right now :)

Yeah, I'll be stopping by the Apple store (only like 8 blocks from me) once I'm done with work to scope out the line.

I'm a large man and you're pretty scrappy. I think we can take the Jobs cultists. :D

I think their basic sales and marketing sense is fully intact. I think they wisely surmised that witholding the App Store from 1G owners - a service promised for the 1G model BEFORE there was any confirmation of a 3G model - would have more likely driven more 1G owners to jailbreak than to upgrade.

If their primary market with the 3G release is the 1G owners, then they've got problems. It isn't like iPhone already has dominating marketshare among cellphones. They have a long way to go and that's what the 3G model needs to be targeted at - continuing inroads into the market, not repaving existing roads they've already built.

Getting the AppStore out to 1G owners ahead of 3G launch is creating positive buzz overall

Booyah! Only two people in line as of early this afternoon...hold steady, San Francisco!!

I'm really praying that Sacramento isn't bad. We have a lot of AT&T stores with stock...but I'm really curious how many units the Apple store itself will receive.

We're not talking about before there was a confirmation of a 3G model. We're talking about launching the AppStore with the 3G tomorrow and launching the AppStore with the 1G at some point AFTER the 3G is already being sold. You always sell the new product first, you don't tell the guy at the new car lot that his car will be fine if he just gets new tires... but oh wait, I do have this new car here which cost more. :)

I upgraded itunes but when i try to update the iphone it tells me that it can't be upgraded further...

Apple hasn't "officially" released the update over iTunes and probably won't until tomorrow...you have to download it and manually install it yourself.

appstore is amazing, 40 dollars well spent so far and so many good free aps too. Game companies should take notice, this is how DLC is done.

I stopped by the Stockton store here in San Francisco today. There was two people in line at 12:30. I'm hoping to sneak into the line early tomorrow morning before work.

So how do I manually install the update to the iPhone. I've downloaded apps via itunes but they aren't syncing to my phone.

Do you have the update downloaded? If you do, hold Shift (Option if you're on a Mac) while clicking on update and navigate to the update.

I really appreciate you walking me through this. The update that I need to browse to. Is this the itunes executable that I just downloaded from their site?

If you're talking about the file that I think you're talking about then no. It's the .ipsw file, it looks like a lego block with a music note and iPod symbol on it. MacRumors took the link to the file down as requested by Apple, but I can attach and email it to you if you don't have it.

Bowser, I PM'd you my address. I really appreciate your help.

Alright, I've decided to be a retard and install the IPSW that Apple posted. If it's on their servers and iTunes installed it, it can't possibly be my fault if my apartment roof collapses on me when I try to install it :D

I'm just too antsy to get at the free apps out there.

Edit, if you can't find the IPSW, TUAW is still linking directly to it.

I know what you're talking about - I'm just glad you're not Apple sales and marketing, or if you are, clearly not the person they listen to. :p

You're analogy is terrible, by the way. Nobody was suggesting a salesperson should tell 1G owners to hold off on a 3G purchase because of AppStore. Obviously, they can tout how they complement each other. Many apps will need fat network pipes to work optimally and 16 GB of storage would certainly come in handy to manage data hungry apps + music + video.

The problem is that NONE of the apps require fat network pipes. You can stream both audio and video over edge - been doing it all month. So there is no compelling event to encourage the existing market to move over outside of the early adopters.

But if you think it makes sense to ignore that potential upgrade market - that's you. It is poor sales strategy.

Good thing the iPhone 3G has video chat!

Oh... wait. I have absolutely no reason to upgrade. I might get one so my wife can have an iPhone too, but with the $15/month rate hike it actually looks like the early adopters WON something.
