Any reason for me to hold off on upgrading to iTunes 8.0.2? I have a jailbroken phone and don't want to screw that up. Advice needed. PEACE.
I've seen a few comments on the iphone-dev blog saying upgrading to iTunes 8.0.2 is fine...

LOL at the UK podcast directory:

If you can't see the problem...
cata-what?

Did a quick check, couldn't find any other mention, but I know I probably missed it: I updated my firmware, and everything that should have changed did, except for Maps. Am I supposed to turn the new features on or something?

EDIT: Nevermind, found out you had to use a pin! Subway info is nice, but not as comprehensive as I had hoped. Wanted to ditch CityTransit, oh well.

I downloaded a podcast and listened to it, but how do I delete it?

It doesn't sync to my itunes library and I can't find an option to remove it.

Try sweeping from left to right on it? Like you can do to delete video and mail, as you may or may not know.

Ah thanks. Had the touch for 8 months and that's the first time i've done that :lol

Anyone test the "improved stability and performance of Safari" in 2.2?

is there any way to use my iPhone as a wifi reciever for my PC through a USB cable? My new PC is arriving soon and it has no wifi.. I'm too poor to buy one of those wifi USB dongles right now...

Ugh. I want to upgrade. I can't believe the only reason I've jailbroken is for f'ing video recording functionality. Have we seen a good reason why Cycorder or Qik or anything hasn't become part of the official app store?

Apple won't allow it. You'll probably never see a video recorder in the app store, along with a lot of other useful features.

OMG I think this update may have finally fixed safari. Scrolling is faster and I just scrolled through a page of the animal pic thread without a crash!!!

You were using the neogaf app surely? Can't wait to test it out.

Then the wait for an updated Quickpwn continues. None of the new features are crucial enough that I can't wait a few days. Sad. :(

It's not been mentioned in this thread yet but there isn't going to be an soft unlock solution for 2.2 That's a tempting reason to never upgrade the firmware at all. I'll be taking a long look at the downgrading process before deciding if Street view is worth it.

What's that mean? What's a soft unlock?

unlocking the phone via software. If you're happy with your AT&T contract, then it's not so important.

Oh, cool. Yeah, I have AT&T and have no issues. I just like recording short videos for friends and family. How is that too much to ask?!

Does anyone have a link to the firmware? It's getting quite annoying, but I have never been able to download the firmware updates in iTunes. It completes the download to 100% and then gives me a "Network Interruption" error every single time, with every update, across many versions of iTunes.

Wait, why is this?

I thought the 2.2 beta FW had already been broken.

2.2 adds baseband updates for the radio. could make a software unlock impossible in the future.

however, it appears as though one might be able to use the current pwnage tool to create a jailbroken 2.2 FW, based on the language used at the iphone-dev blog. it's just unsupported by the dev community right now.

it's not. it should be part of the phone. till then, use cycorder or buy a Flip.

Any one else's speaker phone practically useless? is there a way to fix it or am i just stuck with that? it sucks when i want to show someone a video and no one can hear anything. i have a non 3g iphone btw.

How is the video quality?

Ranges from pure crap to acceptable. Cycorder says iPhone maxes out at 15fps in ideal settings. That's fine for me. There's a pay video app that can do real-time compression (Cycorder is raw) and upload to YouTube, but Cycorder says those features are coming -- for free -- in the next few weeks. It's brilliant, for what it is.

Qik is cool. It's essentially a live-feed using your camera that people can log in and chat to. I haven't used it for anything but testing it out yet, and can't think of much of a reason I would want to use it otherwise, but hey, it's a cool idea.

Just blindly installed 2.2 and overwrote my jailbreak, incl. PDANet (I don't use it often). I may well decide to re-jailbreak when that's an option, but I wanted to check here first:

Is there any way to audit what files constitute the "other" in iTunes. Mine jumped from 80MB to 260MB after the 2.2 update and I'd love to free that space up.

Soooooo, the 2.2 firmware has locked me out of my phone. I didn't have any passcode setup before I did the update, and as far as I can remember I've never had one setup. I started the firmware update, came back and it was telling me "iPhone is activated," but when I slide the slider it asks me for a passcode!!

Might a restore fix this or am I stuck going to my nearest ATT store tomorrow?

The four digit lock screen? Have you tried 0000?

2.2 is amazing. You can stream podcasts over-the-air like live tv, and since it's an Apple app, you can multi-task.

You can't download podcasts larger than 10MB over the cell network, but you can stream 150+ MB video podcast over 3G... I wonder if this is an error on Apple's part and AT&T will be bitching soon.

I'm watching Diggnation streaming over 3G now even though I can do it over my DSL just because I hate AT&T and want to use their bandwidth.

wait wat
how do you stream?

Open iTunes, click podcasts, find a podcast, then instead of trying to download it, double tap the title and it'll open MobileQuickTime and start streaming it.

I'm seriously wondering if this is an oversight on Apple's part... (concerning the bandwidth issues)

I think it's by design. Much like youtube videos, streaming data seems to be OK, but downloading permanently to the device is limited (apps and podcasts over 10 MB).

weird distinction. Not sure what the reasoning is.

dumb question. i'm getting an iphone soon and have never been on att and was just curious if there's any extra charges on the bill beyond the basic $70 minimum plan?

This does work, and it's pretty cool when I'm at home or on another WiFi network. Can't imagine streaming a video podcast on the EDGE network though. It would just be nice if everyone would encode in video that the iPhone supported. I can stream CNN's video podcasts fine, but I can't stream MSNBC/NBC's podcasts at all because they tell me the video format isn't supported.

OH MY CHRIST! EMOJI! People will hate emailing me a little less now!
Thank you, Apple. Thank you. Now just give me audible instant email alerts.

that is most likely from the jailbreak. when you updated to 2.2 did u restore or upgrade? i had the same issue then had to restore the full thing and it went down a lot

Next time you're at a gaming event you should use Qik and and provide us a live video feed. Closed theatre? No worries, they won't suspect your phone!

this is probably a stupid question but is there anyway to turn the text message noise on but leave ringtone at vibrate? i can't figure this out.

What happened to the Headphones with Remote and Mic? WTH! They were announced in September and still nothing. I know apple headphones suck but I really want the remote functionality.

Safari is so smooth now. Even posting this is as lag free as typing a text message. Best update so far without question. Street view is amazing, the revamped app store is perfect, and being to download and stream podcasts from the iTunes store is simply an awesome feature.

But perhaps best of all since updating last night Safari nor any of my other apps have crashed at all. Hell, I can actually view NPD threads now!!

The headset included with the iPhone is already a remote.
