I'm having some trouble already after having the phone for just one day. I can't return from the contacts list to the main menu upon pressing the main button...what the hell do I do?! :/
hard reset? hold home + lock button for 10 seconds.

OMG, still dragging this on as some sort of personal argument... jeez, you use a couple personal pronouns and everyone thinks that you're speaking as though you think your opinion is the only one that matters.
Let me slow this down: I was using personal pronouns to show that my personal experience has led me to this conclusion, but I acknowledge that I'm not the only one who has ever come to this conclusion, either.
Put quite simply, would you want a feature that's such a pain in the ass to use that you don't even want to bother touching it? I mean, isn't its approachable usability of all its features the primary reason most of us bough the iPhone for in the first place? To get AWAY from that?

:lol
It's just a discussion, not an argument man. We've been 'slowing it down' for you, but you were obviously telling the truth when you said you just didn't 'get it'. Probably for the best to move on.

If that description you gave earlier is the case, you may want to throw a few prayers in as well. :D

does anyone ever have an issue where the safari just blacks out and then reverts back to the home screen after a couple seconds.. .?

Happens every now and then. Usually on web pages with lots of data. Used to happen on Gaf every now and then, but then I started using the Gaf Web App, which loads way more easily.

that's a safari crash. usually happens to me when there's a crap ton of javascript on a page.

Will happen occasionally, but much much much less after the updates over the last year.

For as much people talk about the pleasurable "iphone experience" I can't think of a browsing session I've had that didn't end with Safari crashing. It seems like any large web page will crash the shit out of it. Reading any long thread on NeoGAF is an invitation for a crash.

Apple claims the iPhone is feature starved and locked-down for the sake of stability, but it doesn't even seem that stable.

Using the SecondApp portal to GAF and turning off avatars helped me greatly with this. With that said, my sessions tend to end in a crash as well, even when I'm using only a single tab. Anything with a lot of pics tends to blow me back to the home screen. Memory issue, I assume.

I did read that an occasional hard reset can help with this, but it was totally unsubstantiated. I do it once in a while just in case it will help. YMMV.

So I suppose you can't run Opera on the iPhone huh?

: /

So how long until Android gets an iPhone port? I know someone got Linux working through terminal.

When you set google as the default search engine, is there a way to get it to use the mobile version of the website? Also is there a search engine that only searches mobile friendly sites?

Is the rjdj app worth it? I tried the single and enjoyed it. Now I'm thinking of purchasing the album. Any other apps you guys can recommend?

I usually turn my phone on the side and swipe my finger really fast.

(not that I'm aware of)

I'm sure with some reasonable digging I could find a baseline, but does anyone know what the going sell price is for a 4GB first-gen iPhone? I plan on upgrading to a 3G sometime soon and want to sell it. Been debating whether to toss it up on Ebay or to try Craigslist.

...It already exists. It's a web app. It's the beset way to browse GAF on an iPhone.

not the webapp, ckohler said he was thinking of making a native app that'll utilize the iphone's hardware (like taking a pic and posting directly to a thread) as well as being able to post msg's

Hmm, is there any easy way to get iTunes to just fill my iPhone to capacity? I'm adding a lot of video content and right now the app just wants to complain and stop syncing if I have more new video content than can fit on the phone.

I was hoping it might be smart enough to, say, look at the TV shows I have with unwatched tags, do a quick look at capacity available, and then copy episodes a set of the earliest available eps for each. I could set "3 most recent unwatched" or whatever, but all that is going to do is give me 3 eps of a couple of shows and leave 8GB unused, rather than 3 of one and 11 of another to fill the space.

big update to beejive went out tonight

has photo taking support, file sharing support (can read documents, pdfs, etc) as well as voice messaging support

still sad there's no party chat support though

just put up my iphone for sale on ebay. hopefully it will sell at a high enough price for me to get a 3g for free.

if anybody is looking for a used iphone in really good condition...send me a pm =P

you could always set it to manual managing

Is there more UI customization other than sounds? I want to be free of the iChat bubbles, and the devs said they were prepping a release with that feature in it. Wanna know if it's this one.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT, how did I miss the Crystal Defenders port Square Enix did??!? When do we get Song Summoner for iPhone??!?!?

nope, still stuck with the same old UI

i hope they come out with something like mobilechat's ui (in conversation), the program sucked but at least that part looked slick

I think that's what they're aiming for, apparently, something more in line with existing IM UIs. I consulted the Feature Request section of their site and they told me they were prepping it.

I love Beejive but the file sending feature is weak compared to Palringo's. Whereas Palringo actually lets you send a file to someone, Beejive's implementation uploads the file you want to send to their server then sends a link to the recipient.

iTunes Q.

Cover images.

I can accept that itunes is pretty shitty at fetching them itself.

But when I mark all the songs in an album, right click and go and add an image myself, why doesn't it stick? It doesn't show up on my ipod. Where have I gone wrong.

I just got an iPhone, so I'm incredibly late to the discussion. So sorry if this is redundant. My biggest complaint/query is wondering if we're ever going to be able to get landscape texting/e-mail?

You can change that in the (iPhone) Settings.

I've rarely been able to batch cover images and end up doing it manually. Easiest way for me is to copy the image of an album, right click on the song and go to Get Info...go to the album art tab and just control V and hit next to go to the next song and control V again.

Heard some rumors at work about a new Iphone in the works by Apple for Summer 2009. Apparently, They will release a cheaper, base version that is strictly geared towards phone applications, and another to replace the 8gb and 16gb 3g models.

I don't get why people would want an iPhone thats just a phone. It's not like the phone part of it is spectacular or anything, it works just like any other phone in that sense. It's the all-in-oneness of it that makes it nice.

The Iphone is simply easy to use. It's like the Nintendo Wii of the phone world. The phone applications such as contacts, checking messages, texting are about as simple as it gets. It reduces costs while catering to an elderly crowd.

My dad had an Ericksson w580, and he was thrilled after getting the iphone. He doesn't use it for anything else other than calling. For him it was the ease of use factor.

before you add the cover, first mark all the songs, right click and go to info. the cover art box should be blank. check mark the box next to it and press ok. then go back into the songs and then copy your cover art into the box and do it again.

Im hoping someone can help me with this. Recently I had to redo my whole computer which my Iphone was synced with and now I dont know what to do. If i sync it, wont it erase everything on the phone? Is there anyway around this?

If you go back a page you can see me ask the same question. It was pretty painless. If you have the backup file use that. It only wiped the iPod part for me, which wasn't that hard to get back and running. Results may vary.

EDIT: Make that two pages back (assuming you use the same post count per page as I do).

at the top of the page, touch where the current thread title is displayed. that will jump you down to the last post on that page.
This is the one peeve that really bothers me about the iPhone and I really wish Apple would do something with Safari itself to handle that. Ideally I would like double taping the phone's info bar to bring you to the bottom of the page if you are currently viewing the very top of the page.
