Is anyone here still playing ONLY on last-gen consoles - i.e., Xbox One or PS4, no PC?

Is anyone here still playing ONLY on last-gen consoles? To be clear, I am talking about people who play only on the Xbox One (including X) or PS4 (including Pro), not on PC. Disregard Switch use; I'm just asking about Xbox and PS. How many console gamers here are still playing exclusively on last gen consoles?

The reason I ask is that I'm aware that many casual gamers still play exclusively on PS4 or Xbox One - they haven't made the jump to the current gen yet. I saw a story about a year ago that said 50% of PS users are still on PS4. But this is an enthusiast forum, so I assume that the percentage here is much lower - maybe 10% of the crowd? - but I wanted to check. I'm also wondering about the accuracy of one of my previous polls, which combined PS4/5 users together.

Anyhow, chime in if you're a console gamer who plays only on last gen consoles.

I got my old trusty ps4 from march 2014 still hooked up to the tv, but 99% of my gaming is happening on 9800x3d and 3080ti(card is from mid 2021 yet its still 2x stronger from base ps5 and way above that in rt/ai upscaling).

3080ti is good because it got 12gb of vram. My 10gb is a nightmare

No because GAF is for elites and upper class only. We don't allow disgusting poor people here.

And if a poor person does show up then we get the Bruce Willis mask on eBay banner ad to crash their shitty pentium celeron computer, or cheap ass android samsung phone.

Thats the reason i didnt feel forced to bite into subpar 50xx nvidia offerings(bad specs and overpriced af), i can easily wait another year for hopefully better priced and with more vram 5080super or if its still bad i will just ride it tru to 60xx series launch in 2027(then i will have to bite, but hopefully even if prices are terrible, at least specs are solid by that time :P ).

Honestly PS4 Pro with a SSD is not that bad and still my newest PS since they started porting. But casuals won't be upgrading the HDD, they will just upgrade to PS5. Only the ultra casuals will do nothing at all and continue using the old console.

Here's the bit from last year that I referenced, suggesting that 50% of PS users still hadn't made the jump at that time.

Its no surprise at all, so few ps5 exclusives, demons souls remaster and astrobot are ones that will force me to buy ps5(or rather likely ps6) when its all said and done, literally nothing else, coz anything else is or soon will have pc port.

I still have a base ps4 and it's a miracle it still works. I use it to play anything my laptop can't handle such as elden ring, smt vengeance, mirror's edge, sekiro.
The sound it makes sometimes though is nearly supersonic.

Still playing PS3 and PS2 (emulator) occasionally
Oh right I also have a ps3, solely for demon's souls. And if we're counting emulators well then I'm the last first generational gamer ultima.
Playing through t edition of ff6 on the snes now.

Not me but I can confirm alot of people I know are still on last gen. I dont know what's considered a casual but they spend alot of time on fortnite/cod/madden/2k.

Still rocking my PS4 Pro, have no desire to upgrade to the PS5 (still hate the design very much).

A PS4 (Pro) is still an excellent value to this day. Tons of old and new games to play. If you get a Pro, tear it down, apply new paste, thermal pads, along with an SSD and you're ready to rock and roll.

Kinda. The lion's share of my current library
is Xbox One games that I run on Series X.

The last time I tried playing on a personal calculator was back in 2002 or so. 💩🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Whatever. Half of GAF sounds like the poorest people on the Internet the way they act like a $450 new electronic is an unfathomable amount of money that only billionaires could possibly afford.

My brother called me last week, the day before the Xbox price increase, and told me that his friends are moving onto an online game that is only current gen. He wanted to know what Series Xbox to buy. As soon as the price increase was announced, I ordered him a Series X at the original price. So, up until last week, he was using his Xbox One only.

Dude just get ps5 pro. Its so much better

PS4 Pro was my newest console up until last month when I finally bought PS5 but I'm still playing PS3 mainly

I would have said yes to this as of about 3 weeks ago, but I finally bit the bullet and got a PS5. Prior to that my gaming was all done mainly on a PS4, and occasionally the Wii U.

And to be honest, I'm still not 100% sure I needed to do it. The only reason I did the upgrade is because I still prefer physical media. A lot of the cross gen games from the past year or so have been digital only on the PS4, and I've got tired of putting off the purchases.

I'm still on Xbox One / PS4. I mostly play older games. I've never been in a rush to upgrade to the new tech. I was subscribed for a while to Game Pass Ultimate so any new games not cross gen I was playing them on the cloud (if they were in Game Pass).

Why is he surprised? What do these analysts expect: that Sony sells 100+ million PS5 consoles to their entire customer base in three or four years and then absolutely nothing for a couple of years more until its finally time to release a successor?

Lol no. Even if not for my pc, I'd still have my ps5.

And the other half is shocked pikachu face regarding how a $500 peripheral to a $500 console is still considered niche

Bought Black ops 6 on PS4, what drew me towards it was the "next gen" versions didn't really look next gen, and I've always liked the PS4 DualShock 4 better.

I think the message we see all the time is we need to upgrade to next gen, and if you look around player counts games like black ops 1 on the PS3 still has 100 people daily players.

I eat monsters on breakfast and still ridiculously humble towards poor people, I've poor friends and made them rich physically and lots of them their mindsets.

Should be tons of us seeing as this gen is bad and there's no reason to buy any new console hardware. They're clearly all cool playing 1080p30 on their ps4's.

oh god no. Gen8 was hands down the worst console generation in terms of hardware that ever existed. instantly outdated on release, where even mid range PCs could easily wipe the floor with them.

the slow and shitty HDDs were helplessly overburdened by the growing data sizes which lead to loading times that not rarely got close to a minute in length, the CPUs were so unfathomably shit that everything was locked to 30fps even on the beast of a GPU of the One X (outside of a few exceptions), the consoles needed more than 30 sec to boot up.
and then there's the PS4 and the Pro that were basically airplane turbine simulators.

in one word, Gen8 was SLOW... just so fucking SLOOOOOOOOOW
the Xbox One X would maybe be barely tolerable to me these days, the rest I never wanna touch again.

No, but PS5 was the longest I waited to go next gen, got it about 2 years after release.
But I did have (still have) a PC with a 2080. I bought that card pretty close to release, a few months in. Came from a 980ti before that.

Sounds like we have 4 people so far - Sardine Breath, redneckerz, Jacked Tortoise, and and ZoolNL.

And a couple others who just recently made the jump.

Honestly if you have a pro with the amount of cross gen titles you really aren't missing much
Except access to consensus GOTY 2023, consensus GOTY and its runner-up 2024, basically every game of note in 2025 including the current consensus GOTY, massively faster loading speeds and 60 fps gameplay.

I'm still playing on a stock PS4 Pro. It's displayed on a Sony X900E LED. The game I am playing exclusively these days is EldenRing. I was ready to upgrade to a PS5 Pro months ago but never pulled the trigger. Before EldenRing I was playing Monster Hunter World or Sekiro. I am sure the PS5 Pro would be a noticable improvement, but the PS4 Pro is actually very adequate. That is my stumbling block to upgrading my console.

My main console is still the original model PS4 from 2013. I don't only play games on PS4, as I've got a bunch of older consoles, several portables, a PC, and a mobile phone. However, I haven't felt it necessary to get a "current generation" console.
