Is it time to accept Revenge of the Sith as "one of the good" SW films? SPOILERS

Of course it isn't, it is a terrible movie. Now it's time for the real question.

The novelization is much better, both in general and with handling Anakin's final descent to the dark side.

The movie is okay, but I'd put it below the original trilogy and behind TFA.

No. It was bad a decade ago. It is still bad now and still will be a decade from now. This is not wine, movies don't get better as they get older.

No, because it's a bad, bad film. I'm fully convinced that people only liked it because it followed two even worse films.

Revenge of the Sith is fine.

Yeah, there's a ton of bad writing in it. Just like all the other movies in the franchise. As bad as some of Revenge of the Sith is, it still had more heart to me than TFA, so whatever.

No. It's the worst.

People should accept PM wasn't nearly as bad as the other two. Bad, but not trash fire.

This.

I believed ROTS was the best one for years and decided to rewatch the prequels again earlier this year, and to my surprise The Phantom Menace is the best out of the bunch. It's still a bad film but there's an earnest adventure that's not bogged down by boring politics, horrible unbelievable romance with no chemistry, or a last act that hamfists so many characters and events to conveniently fit in order to set up another trilogy of films

What's the worst line from REVENGE OF THE SITH?

"Chancellor Palpatine, Sith Lords are our specialty." -Obi-Wan

"My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count." | "Good. Twice the pride, double the fall." -Anakin and Count Dooku

"Wait a minute, how did this happen, we're smarter than this!" -Obi-Wan

"You owe me one, and for not saving your skin for the tenth time." | "Ninth time. That business on Cato Neimodia doesn't- doesn't count." -Anakin and Obi-Wan

"You are so... beautiful." | "It's only because I'm so in love." | "No, it's because I'm so in love with you." | "So love has blinded you?" | "Well, that's not exactly what I meant." | "But it's probably true." -Anakin and Padmé

"Have you ever considered that we may be on the wrong side? What if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists? And the Republic has become the very evil we've been fighting to destroy?" -Padmé

"Hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo... so long ago when there was nothing but our love. No politics, no plotting, no war." -Padmé

"No! No! No! YOU WILL DIE!" -Supreme Chancellor Palpatine

"Killed not by clones, this Padawan, but by a lightsaber he was." -Yoda

"I have seen... a security hologram... of him... killing younglings." -Obi-Wan

"I don't know you any more. Anakin! You're breaking my heart! You're going down a path I can't follow!" -Padmé

"Only a Sith deals in absolutes." -Obi-Wan

"I have waited a long time for this moment, my little green friend." -Emperor Palpatine

"Not if anything to say about it I have." -Yoda

"From my point of view, it is the Jedi who are evil." -Anakin

Thank you for you for this, you also could have just put the whole script

No, it's a fucking awful mess of a movie that makes no sense at all. I honestly think Phantom Menace was better. It gets unwarranted praise because it's 'dark' and has the emperor and order 66 in it, but objectively it's a terrible film with cheap, bad techniques and a plot / character arc that makes absolututely no sense.

Nope.
Its still a terrible movie.

The less awful prequel, but choosing among them is like choosing which venereal disease you want.

I'd say it's overall a decent film and it's cgi was quite good at the time. It's not on the level of the ot but tfa isn't much better imo.

I was bored the whole way through when I saw this in theaters.

General Grevious was a good idea of a villain, but was introduced in this movie terribly. I know he was introduced in the cartoon or something, and it really felt like he was meant to be a bigger bad guy, but the fact he wasn't in any of the previous movies and got killed off so quickly made him forgettable. I honestly thought they should have just build Darth Maul into a bigger part of the trilogy, make him a sort of prototype Darth Vader that get progressively fucked up until he's basically what Grevious is. Instead, they kill him off in the first one, introduce Dooku with his horrible name in the second one, and immediately kill him in the third.

And Anakin's switch to the dark side (pretty much the main point of the prequels) was so sudden and weak that it made my eyes roll. I get that he wanted to save Padme, but after she was dead, why did he remain loyal to the Emperor? The whole point of his switchover was to save her life. Did he remain his servant in the HIGHLY UNLIKELY even that the Emperor would eventually figure out how to bring people back from the dead?

My main issues with 3 are just how terrible everything involving Padme and Anakin was and in particular how quick and nonsensical Anakin's turn to the dark side is.

Phantom Menace is fucking awful and by far the worst of all the movies. Anyone that says otherwise should be damned to an eternity with an imortal Jar Jar.
I'd take a whole movie of jar jar scenes over the terrible Anakin Padme love story that consumes so much of episodes 2 and 3.

Nope.

Murdering children for the sake of "yoinks! Grownup filmz!!"
"From my point of view the Jedi are evil" or whatever that cringe quote was. So many terribly written and delivered one-liners.
Padme dying from a broken heart
Switch to the dark side happening in about 5 minutes from one conversation.

It was the one with the clearest plot that actually went somewhere, mostly because it HAD to tie into A New Hope and AOTC was such a fucking mess that went nowhere that Lucas ended up having a ton of ground to cover still for Sith. In other words, his bumbling incompetence for the first two episodes forced him to actually write a plot for ROTS. That doesn't mean it's a good film by any stretch, however. It's terribly written, has very sloppy editing, and is completely without tension despite it having the most action scenes in any one SW film.

Absolutely not, I always thought people are desperate to give one of the prequels a thumbs up. I was hyped for the prequels, but was let down with each one, the last shot does not get a pass.

It's my favourite SW film.

RotS is the only one I enjoy rewatching.

None of the others resonated with me, to be honest.

The OST, especially near the end gives me chills.

It's terrible. Anakin's fall to the dark side was completely botched, and that was the whole point of the entire trilogy.

But then you forget that:
-This film has no reason to exist and is a waste of time
-no one cares about kid Anakin
-Darth Maul isn't even a character
-fuck podracing
-Fuck JarJar Binx
-why are we spending an entire movie on Darth Vader's childhood
-fuck podracing
-all of these performances suck
-nothing interesting, important or substantial has happened
-its not funny
-fuck podracing

At least they have some redeeming features unlike TPM.

The movie is one of the biggest messes ever and stains the Star Wars name. The only reason someone ever would have to like this is because its better than EPI&II. The whole prequel trilogy is deserves no praise

So is this going to be a yearly thing?

—The Prequels are Ok
—TFA is a disappointing yet entertaining rehash
—The Clone Wars and Rebels are great series and I'm happy to see them referenced in the movies
—C3PO is Jar Jar tier in episode V, and Jar Jar isn't even that bad.

There, all my Star Wars opinions for the rest of the month just imagine my posts in the next thread

fuuuuuuuuuck no it's garbage

if anything, we need to teach more people that it isn't as good as they think just because it's better than the other two prequels.

people claiming it's at the same level as Jedi, or god forbid BETTER than jedi, make me SICK.

pffffffffft

It's really epic in scope. Sometimes it really works and sometimes it doesn't. The opening is really great and the atmosphere of all the words are well done. That scene between Palpatine and Anakin at the Opera is the one of the greatest in the series. As a whole, I'd put it somewhere right next to Return of the Jedi. Either before, equal, or after.

Nah. It's incredibly watchable, for sure, and it has its moments, but its got flaws the size of mountains flying out the wazoo. I wouldn't rank it as a "good" movie, Star Wars or otherwise.

I think Palpatine telling Anakin about The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise is one of the highlights of the entire franchise.

Ian McDiarmid is a treasure.

no. it's dreadful and insufferable. phantom menace is fine though and is unfairly used a lightning rod for prequel disappointment as a whole. taken as a detached spinoff like rogue one and the han solo film, which it feels easy to do now we have a new star wars every year, it's a solid enough blockbuster. darth maul is a good villain, the pod-racing is good fun spectacle as is the final fight, the locations/costumes/designs etc are nice, the star wars universe it presents feels like a nice contrast from that of the original trilogy. i honestly enjoy watching it.

Phantom Menace has aged waaaay better than the other two prequels.

This man knows what's up. It definitely has aged waaaay better, and this is coming from somebody that watched Phantom Menace at the theater and it left such a terrible taste in my mouth, I never watched it again until this year and was surprised at how much it stacked up better than the other prequels.

It's a great SW movie, prefer it to ANH which I find a slog to get through and even more cringe worthy. The only highs is Obi/Luke discussion about his father, which has far more weight thanks to RoTS

Without reading other response. No.

The prequels including Sith sucked.

Lucus focused too much of cool visuals/designs and not enough actual characters. There is nothing in those movies make me want to rewatch them ever again. I don't hate them. They are just mediocre at best.

After the first two, I refused to see the third. Eventually I saw the red letter media review and sure enough the movie appeared to be just as bad as the first two which were horrific.
