Is moving games from PS5 -> PS5 still most efficient using an external SSD?

Like many chads on here I'm picking up a PS5 Pro. I have lots of games on my current PS5 DE.

Obviously I'm going to give the Pro pride of place in the drawing room, while the OG can go upstairs.

Is the quickest and most efficient way to transfer games via copying to external HDD, is there like a network move or anything I can do?

Do I need PS plus to download from cloud? If so, can I just get it for just month and then cancel after the transfer is done?

I back up just my save data to a slim 256 gb flash drive each month to save everything. Unfortunately, you can’t pull individual saves this way and have to reset the destination console, but that is exactly what you are doing anyway.
Make a backup of your saves and settings and reload them on the new console when you get the Pro.

I used an internal NVMe - all my games were already installed on this on my original PS5, so all I had to do was install it in the new PS5 and all my games where there. The only thing I had to go through an actual transfer process for was the internal memory (user accounts, photos etc), which I backed up to an HDD (it was about 3GB in total).

I’m just going to DL whatever games I want to play again. A good reason for this is so I don’t get caught checking out loads of games at once to determine the Pro improvements, rather than just enjoying a couple/few. I’ll leave that job to DF.

The first games I’ll DL are GT7, FF7:R and one other - not yet decided.

Pretty sure like previous PlayStations you can do a console to console transfer with just a cat6 cable.

I used to do this on the PS3. Essentially the LAN port on the PlayStations work normally with a router and go outside of spec allowing them to negotiate a direct peer to peer connection by one console inverting/cross-connecting its transmit and receive pins, so that PS5 TX goes to Pro RX and vice versa. It would be quick at up to 2.2GB/s (10,000Mbits/10GBit) LAN speed if not limited to the NVME drive speed of upto 3.5GB/s in sequential writes going by a Samsung 980 pro bench.

If what others have said copying to a drive in the expanded NVME SSD port and transferring physically between PS5 is true, that might be quicker, but more fiddly
