Is there a good none depressing souls like?

So after CO Expedition 33 I am craving a game with a good block and parry system. Since I am not aware of a turn based game with the same satisfaction that COE33 gave me (tough I am open for suggestions), I am now looking for a game with great satisfying combat. You know, the clang, swoosh, ENDORPHIN kinda combat.

Since its summer and my living room is bright as fuck for most of the day I simply dont want to play a dark, gritty depressing game like Souls, Elden Ring, Lies of P, etc.

I would play Stellar Blade, but ehhh 80 bucks for a 20 hour game is just a little bit too much (repeat playthroughs don't count).

Sekiro seems ok, but might just be a bit too frustrating at times. I just dont have the time to get really deep into the combat, I can only play a few hours per week tops.

So yeah, looking for a stylish, satisfying, life affirming action RPG kinda game (already played the devil may cries and MGS Revengance, since these are going to be mentioned for sure :) )

Go get Sekiro if you didn't played already.

One day I would love to see the Kingdom Hearts of Soulslikes.

Not necessarily the famous cameo/crossover stuff, but the mixture of cartoon lightheartedness combined with a serious anime plot, all while being bright and colorful.

It could even try to replicate the PS2 games' graphics rather than the PS4 one.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is one, but as others have said, Another Crab's Treasure is exactly what you are looking for. It's made specifically to be a cheerful soulslike.

Sekiro and Star Wars are very good as some gaffers mentioned above. High praise from our commander in chief for another crabs treasure as well, I had heard this was pretty janky but I must check it out if it is good enough for a platinum run through!

I remember seeing that game Enotria, the last song and was meant to be a "daytime" souls game. I don't think it was very good though. No personal experience.

Kena soulslike? Then Beyond Good Evil and Zelda are nowadays also considered soulslikes?:pie_confused:
Gran Tursimo is and has always been a souls-like. Same as Super Mario Sunshine and Mario game after it. And I know people hate it when I say it, but it's the truth and they end up agreeing, but Myst and Riven were peak souls-like

Code Vein comes to mind. I mean it's kind of depressing but just drink some meds and it will be less depressing. Game has nice titties though

Jedi series, as mentioned. The games are pretty good, really. And The Surge, believe it or not. The first one, not the sequel. It's actually a competent, enjoyable game with a bright, colorful aesthetic. Yes, it's trying to play with apocalyptic themes, and you're in a place where almost everyone's been murdered, but it's more scary and exciting than it is bleak.

Stellar Blade is more like a 36 hour game, assuming you don't just blow through the main story and you do the side content (according to How Long to Beat website). I'm not trying to talk you into it, just pointing that out.

It is not ?
Its about semantics, you could consider it a souls-like because of its difficulty and focus on bosses…

But it also plays more like a traditional action/adventure since it's not an rpg like other souls-like games, not to mention the combat is drastically different (being a purely deflecting and stealth-based system instead of your usual class-based system)

Still an awesome game though

Yes, and you could even bring up the green aspects, but that is a shallow pool compared to the lore of other Soulslikes. Some of that stuff is Berserk-level depressing.
Most souls are the definition of 'everyone loses' by the end of their stories

The BEST case scenario is toppling a cosmic deity to usurp the land as the new deity (Rani's quest line) or staying true to your word, making your way to end your friend's reign and then dying with no regrets after completing your quest (Siegward's quest line in DS3)

Stellar blade is not a 20 hour game, it's a 45+ hour one

I find Sekiro to be one of the more optimistic souls like. The good endings are about putting things right. There's depressing things, but has a levity to it. Probably due to the heavy buddhist overtones.

Kena, soulslike..? 🤔 I thought it was a straight up Zelda-like, and a very mediocre one at that.

"Zelda-Like"... back when genre names still had meaning we called that an Action Adventure.

and how dare you call it mediocre... wtf?

but it indeed is not a souls like... neither is Sekiro yet it's been named here already too lol

yup, amazing game... had lots of rough edges when I played it soon after release tho.

I wonder if the more egregious issues like the random collision issues that shot you up onto the air from time to time are gone. happened to me like 4 times at different spots during my playthough 🤣 once I skipped a full area due to that and was confused where to go as some stuff that I needed to progress hadn't triggered yet

What I meant to say was Zelda ripoff 😎 - it's really heavily inspired.

But you're absolutely right, let's just call it an action adventure game. Yeah opinions.

it's not really heavily inspired. it's just an action adventure... and actual one, not an """action adventure""" like Uncharted or modern Tomb Raider.

Darksiders 1 is a game that's way closer to Zelda for example as it follows the OoT formula relatively closely. with dedicated dungeon areas that give you items which are the heavily used in that area... and you even have a horse with limited speed boosts that need to replenish over time lol.
NOW THAT is heavily inspired

Kena on the other hand has no real dungeons for example, neither does it have the typical items per area like Zelda games.

It's not quite a Souls like (more like a nioh like).
But Stranger of Paradise

I mean.... it wants to be dark and depressing but the writing is so hilariously bad that it's full of laugh out lout moments (specially early on).
And the gameplay is great, it's what FFXVI should have been.

True, but the stuff that's ripped off is in the smaller details. You can tell that the creator(s) loves Zelda for sure.
