You sound like a fucking herbRap is responsible for so much violence, be it black on black crime or against women.
People just shrug it off as "art" or say they are telling a story about the struggles in their community but thats horseshit.
It glorifies violence and sexism unlike any other music type. Kids are taught that selling drugs is cool, that acquiring expensive clothes/jewelry is the goal (which in turn pushes the easy money scenario via crime) , that treating women as sex objects to smack around if need be is acceptable.
Prison is cool, gangs are cool, gun violence is cool etc...
Rap has nothing but put a spotlight and praise the worse individuals and I can almost guarantee it has done more harm then good for minority communities.
Rap is and has always been trash.
No adult should be listening to it. Its immature and poison.
Nothing better then seeing some other 9 to 5 slub in the car next to me blasting some song about "Money, money, drugs, hoes and Vassaci"...and better yet when his kids are in the car lol
Its why most people stop listening to it in their early 20's usually....well, white kids that is.
I'm sure we all know that "gangster" white dude from highschool who grew "past" his rap phase and realized how much of a clown he looked/acted like.

why do you think many black communities are poor and uneducated? do you think that wouldn't be the case in the absence of rap music?
white americans have ravaged african americans for more than a century, then lay the blame of their state on a genre of music that emerged in the 70s
just shut up
trump voter over hereRap is responsible for so much violence, be it black on black crime or against women.

I wont deny the damage caused by whites on african americans.
I will say tho..
The black community has had an astronomical rise over the last 20 years. Its foolish to still place any blame on whites cause at this points whites are falling over themselves self loathing themselves trying to prop up/defend minorities.
The biggest enemy to the black community over the last 20 years...his/her own community.
And yes, rap music is a huge part of that problem.
Give me and album or playlist and let me decide?
sounds like you already made up your mind that rap was only about stereotypically negative subjects
but you need me to spell out that you can listen to Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino or hundreds of other artist that don't neatly fall into your narrow stereotypes
because you don't know what the fuck your talking about
No need to be hostile, have you ever considered that perhaps outside of the circle you grew up in its possible to not like the things you do?

there is a vast gap between not liking something and actively stereotyping it from a position of pure ignorance
if you came in this thread and simply asked for recommendations, I wouldn't have to spell out how uninformed the position you took, that's all
There are exceptions, such as Public Enemy and Tribe Called Quest (and plenty others, no doubt), but, in my experience, I agree with the OP: A lot of it is gangster bullshit that probably does more harm than good.
True, blacks have been shit upon in this country since its inception, but I feel that the popularization of gangster rap has actually made things worse. Furthermore, I feel like the really solid, positive rap acts have been marginalized by the industry, in order to greater promote gangster bullshit, and all the violence, division, and self-destruction that it endorses.
And if you feel the need to label me as a racist for saying this, please apply the label with a clear understanding that you have no fucking idea what you're talking about.
But you ask anyone on the streets of Europe or Asia what they think rap is they will throw at you the same things I did, most likely will say the word nigga too without batting an eyelid.
The world is bigger than America
