No its not going down next week.

Only a fool would think this would happen. I doubt very much will change. We've already seen reduced retail precense, but that has more to do with the fact that something like 80% of next-gen Xbox Series don't even have a drive, so that's not suprising. More games coming to PS is also not very surprising as we've already seen first party MS games on PS.

They are not porting every game to PS day and date.

Phil Spencer and Jim Ryan will both come on stage and announce they will have a bare knuckle to determine the winner of the great console war.

think MGS4 snake vs liquid.

I think it's pure bs, lots of haters wishful thinking and fake rumors, Phil will just announce something GP related and that's it we're gonna have a next-gen Xbox.
the hardware will remain at least for now but i expect many games to go on other consoles. Not sure if in the future they make more consoles though.

If it's the end of Xbox next week, I'm sure Microsoft is going to spin it as a "nothing's changing" type of announcement. Microsoft will joyously announce "a new way of strengthening the brand" by going multiplatform. You're going to see Phil Spencer or whoever be nothing but smiles as they discuss the new way forward.

I don't expect a bleak announcement where they're apologetic and trying to soften the blow. If it's bad news, it's going to be found reading between the lines.

Depends what's your calling going down.
If you mean the Xbox brand people used to love in the 360 days and is slowly dying, it's going to be murdered next week to finish the jobs.
If you mean Xbox as a marketing term like XBox gamepass on PC, that should survive.

I think it's BS and I'm willing to make either an avatar bet or a tag bet.

I think it'll 2-3 games ported to Nintendo/Sony platforms. That's it. Nothing more. No Gears, Halo, or Forza will be on Playstation lamo.

Any takers?
Do you really want your Dickless tag back? If you are wrong.

What if all these leaks and bad news were planted by Phil himself... 🤔

Next week's announcement is really the unveiling of Kinect 2. Peter Molyneux has a new studio and everyone from Toys from Bob are there. Cliffy B. is hired on as advisor to the Jazz Jackrabbit reboot.

James Franco Flirt GIF
You mean Kinect 3.0 and the ultimate unveiling……..Spencer fired onstage live and replaced by none other than Don Mattrick. Mattrick gets the ultimate revenge by replacing the man who replaced him back in 2014. What a showing indeed.

Be prepared for Sony to bust everyones balls with their pricing. I was a console gamer for 25 years but finally switched to PC as I think console gaming is fucked

Xbox isn't going anywhere, but it's going to be less important to Microsoft going forward.

They'll start bringing their games to PlayStation and Switch this year.

I imagine MS will be happy with the sales.

Could this just be a case of them coming out and saying now that the acquisition is complete and they have reorganised here is our plan for gamepass and console exclusivity going forward. Then they can say stuff like Bethesda and ABK games (games that have been multi-platform cod, es6 etc) will go everywhere as they cost a shit load to make and the rest will remain exclusive.

Dear OP;

All that can safely be concluded at this point is that a major pivot is imminent for Microsoft's gaming business.

That and the fact that rumours are swirling, brand ambassadors are freaking out, and Phil Spencer is pointedly not denying anything.

Its a huge story, but as yet only in a PR sense. Official word on the substance of the changes will be forthcoming in the near future.

Probably not. But people will still overreact.
This is gaf, doom and gloom on any platform (that isnt playstation) is always going to be overblown with dozens of threads (daily even)

Hell this isnt even the first xbox themed song and dance, i was lurker back then but the vitriol with the xbox one launch was truly a bad time of being an xbox fan here, but tbf the xb1 launch is what converted me to playstation so at least it wasnt without reason

Nah......that doom and gloom is across the board. But, MS gets the worse of it lately because of the moves they have made.

I've only had the pleasure of being here a short while. But for me, Xbox brings the attention on itself due to the bizarre & convoluted way its run and the business antics MS are up to. I do wish for once Xbox would accept the fact that perhaps things are of their own making and not everyone else's fault.

Voted "team believe" although I don't fully know what you mean by that. I just can't see this business update being good for the Xbox brand. There are way too many red flags around this

It will be announced that they are going multi platform but in the same way Sony is on PC. Xbox will get their games first and Sony will get it later.

Very odd, the whole handling of this in general

Not sure if you listened to it, but in that combined Sacred Symbols/Defining Duke podcast that Mattyp Mattyp is on, they talked about this stuff being purposefully leaked by somone from inside Microsoft. They said these are folks who don't like what is going on with these changes to multiplat and are trying to force change by lighting a fire under the fanbase. Not sure how much of that is accurate, but if it is.......Microsoft has some internal turmoil they need to get sorted out.

That could very well be, I haven't talked to anyone last few days that would know much of anything concrete

I can understand there are opposing policy factions within MS, and I can see them leaking info out of spite or frustration... but.... that's such corporate no-no in itself I can imagine someone doing this only if they knew they were already out the door.

Either that or they believe they can leak it and get away with it. But yeah, they have to know that if they are revealed then their job is gone.

if those multi-plat rumors are true (and it seems like it) then this is the end of xbox. But I am not sure if XBox already know that, they often do strange things without considering what this actions will result in.
So, I think that even if XBox continues to make hardware, the sales will go down that bad, that they will put the box on life support for this gen and won't release a next gen box.

The Xbox brand isn't going anywhere next week.

But if they are changing strategy to one where their games go to Ps5, then that will slowly kill Xbox as a product over the coming few months and years.

The message will quite simply be 'get a PlayStation' at that point.

Microsoft will be absolutely fine, but the Xbox brand most assuredly won't be.

Only Phil knows, maybe literally

It could be anything from full-blown Dreamcast style "we're shutting this thing down and becoming fully 3rd party, sorry buy a PS5 lmao" to "we're putting Hi-Fi Rush on PS5 in six months and that's it". I don't think it will be either of those but Xbox will be de-emphasized and they are going to start bringing their main properties on to PS5 and even Switch this year.
Imagine if like with the first og there was a time sega we're in talks with ms to make the Xbox compatible with Dreamcast games, but it didn't happen due to Xbox live (as far as I remember)

Ms have finally accepted and will announce that you can play your physical Dreamcast games on your series x.

I think it's somewhere between the copers and the PS5 fanboy narrative. Overall, there's something there...but I don't think it'll be as serious as people are making it out to be.

Typically middle of the road response I know. But that's typically my forte. Habitual fence sitter.

Really hoping Xbox sticks around. Can't imagine just having 2 home consoles to choose from. It's bad for the consumer in the long run.

They've already completely lost control of the narrative, and Phil just tweeting out some event will happen next week indicates they don't particularly give a shit about that. And yes, they'll pull the plug and in lieu of refunding they will keep services online but shut the store down somewhere in the near future.

#teamdoom
Yeah, the loss of control part is wild IMO. Their publisher stakeholders' costs per day for every studio they have working on Xbox software is mega money, and leaving them in the dark for a week genuinely feels like burning down the house. The only time I can think of that being a valid strategy is when you go third party and they all become your direct competition, so you really don't care about the relationship anymore or them getting information or wasting resources/money..
