Isn't it f'ed up that we don't have any new Bioshock games?

It can't be. The very only thing they do a much better job at is the level design. Everything else without exceptions is worse, or far worse than Bioshock.
Not really.

For one thing, Prey is a proper immersive sim while Bioshock is a FPS with some mild RPG elements.

Bioshock has a great setting and universe but Prey beats it on everything else.

naming Bioshock in the dame sentence as Prey is almost sacrilegious in itself.

Bioshock = dumbed down streamlined shooter that masquerades as an immersive sim

Prey = actual immersive sim, not dumbed down, actual player expression

Prey is what Bioshock should have been

All the rumors about an underground Antarctic city for Cloud Chamber's game sound sick. We've been hearing it's "close" to announcement for like 4 years though, if there's any game I'm praying escapes development hell and cancellation it's that one.

Stuck in the past, begging for a sequel no matter who makes it.

This is why we have:

bad movies endless trash GIF

A man plays something new, a slave begs for membaberry sequels.
Explain the endless pile of Souls shit

Bioshock one of very few FPS I enjoyed but with that being said the story is done, there is not much to tell without trying rehash same story telling "there is always tower and a man".

Sure, immersive sim is a superior genre to an fps with some immersive sim elements, but what in Prey is better? Atmosphere is far better in bioshock, aesthetic is generations ahead in bioshock, enemies design is incomparable, story is way better in bio, gunplay+plasmids is way better. As i said, Prey cannot compete, and it doesn't matter if its genre is superior to what's in Bioshock.

Well that's not true at all. The story is done in Dark Souls, and then we happen to get an even better one in Elden Ring. It all depends on the talent of the team, and if they know wtf they're doing.

And i don't disagree whatsoever. But that dumbed down fps is a superior video game than Prey, the proper immersive sim. Of course if Bioshock was built like Prey, but in the Bioshock universe, the game would have been ten times better, but that's not what we got.

A bioshock game similar to the first in level/gameplay design or even better similar to SS and with the story of infinite would be insane tho sadly I doubt it would be popular these days.

???? Elden Ring's story has no connection to Dark Souls story.

Bioshock 1, 2 and Infinite are connected.

I think what you are asking is spiritual successor to Bioshock instead of actual sequel.

No, what i am saying is that if the game is, say, on moon, why would you follow Bioshock 1 story? There's no need of this. Create a new original story, and here we go, not being anchored by old games released almost 20 years ago. Remember, it's just a video game, the dev can do whatever they want, there's nothing that they must follow at all costs.

They are literally doing that with Judas.

Sadly Immersive Sims don't sell for shit.

Thus no BioShock, Dishonored or Deus Ex anymore. The last great one was Prey (2017) which I highly highly recommend if you have that itch and haven't played it.

We were supposed to be getting a spiritual successor with Judas...
But I don't even believe we'll get Judas anymore. I'll only believe it when I'm actually able to play it.
Ken Levine must have some kind of dirt on Zelnick for sure or else I don't understand how he has managed to survive within the T2 umbrella for so long, both Infinite and now this seem to have been absolute shitshows to develop.

Ken Levine is long moved on from Bioshock IP and if you want other devs making it then it wouldn't be really actual Bioshock other than name.....is that what you want?
If you hire someone in charge that understands what Bioshock is supposed to be, not only is there a chance of it being as good, but it could be even better. I'd take that chance instead of shelving this IP, and forget it exists, yes.

Maybe just like Gabe Newell who up to now has not produce and develop Half life 3 because he said he ran out of ideas, Ken Levine also ran out of ideas for the sequel for Bioshock.

Nah, they would have fucked it up. Earlier dev teams and writers did a good to decent job navigating tough themes and ideas. Showing and not telling the themes they were going for. Also throwing wrenches into what should be the 'good' angle and showing it's not so morally good. They attempted to be complex even with the message they were going for and presenting that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. In some ways, the only real take away was a defeated nihilism (which no one has the balls to do these days).

A modern game would have been hamfisted as fuck and approached difficult topics with Gen Z shallowness.

With legacy games... always remember...

sometimes dead is better.

No.

It takes time to make good game.

Let me remind some of you, we get many series that release on a steady basis that get attacked, I feel some of you would just attack this same IP if that was what ended up happening.

Bad to make many, bad if it takes years to release, the gaming community can't be helped...

The first two games were both amazing, and easily one of the better titles made during the 7th gen. Then Infinite came out, and we don't talk about Infinite.

It has been TWELVE YEARS since the last Bioshock was released. 12 god damn years. This is unacceptable. This IP is way too good to just shelve and sit on.

What could be the reason that they haven't made one? Levine left, OK, find another person, no big deal, it's not like they're an indie studio. I am so desperate for one that i would even take Infinite 2 at this point ffs. Could look so damn good on UE5 (also run at 19fps while stuttering).

I feel the complete opposite.
Bioshock 1 and 2 absolutely didn't catch my interest, but even to this day I love everything infinite. Imho it was the best Bioshock game of all 3.
I'd love another quirky and experimental Bioshock than another underwater setting.

But I agree, a new one is long overdue.

I actually liked Infinite. Even more so with Burial at Sea to tie things up. I've played it 3 times. Was it perfect? No. Would I have loved to have seen the original vision of the first trailer? Sure. I still really enjoyed Infinite and it was my GOTY.

SInce launch of Infinite, you're the first person i ever seen online that didn't like the first two, but enjoyed Infinite.
