It's a slow gaming year

Last year was all hype w/ the sequel release of Doom, Halo 2, Half-Life 2, and GTA. This year, i say we're facing some kind of a dry spell.

Not to say that's entirely a bad thing (time to catch up on old games).

Interpretations of a dry spell are very subjective. Depending on the type of games you play and/or your willingness to try new games can often make it feel like there is/or isn't a dry spell.

Pretty pointless to whine about.

You have got to be f'n kidding me... what year have you been gaming in?

I can't say that myself as I'm struggling to get the money for all the games I want. There's been a ton of games on all systems plus theres 2 system launches this year. Maybe there isn't the hype of last year, but its still been a hell of a year for game releases.

There's plenty of stuff coming out this month. It isn't going to be a dry spell for games, just a dry spell for press releases about games selling millions of copies in a few days. We'll have other threads to make up for the lack of sales arguments.

So this isn't a joke thread? Hmmmm....

I won't even bother with listing the games I bought/will buy this year.

I disagree. Although there isn't any game that will generate Halo/GTA level hype, there is still plenty of great content on every platform set for Q4. This year up till now has been good as well.

well he does have a point, other than re4 there aint much going on console wise. Zelda was supposed to change that but oh well
In terms of what? Maybe if you are a Cube only owner but even then I bought quite a handful of Cube games this year.

I disagree.

I can hardly catch up to my DS purchases, and I can only imagine if I had a PS2/XBox aided along with my 'Cube, I'd have enough games on my hands as it is!

Dry spell? More like 'too-many-awesome-games-released-in-all-platforms' spell.

I agree.

2005 will be dry until November.

I couple games worth getting here and there but not a ton of great games out. Many good games but those aren't worth spending 50 on.

This year's been kinda slow until August, and then it WENT CRAZY.

Burnout Revenge
Burnout Legends
X-Men Legends II: Age of Apocalypse
Ultimate Spider-Man
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Myst V: End of Ages
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Indigo Prophecy
Sonic Gems Collection (okay, a personal favorite)

And look at October:

Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel without a Pulse
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Gunstar Super Heroes
Shadow of the Colossus
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
Resident Evil 4: Again, but with Feeling

I mean good god.

Some very nice stuff has came out so far, (GoW, RE4, SMT:DDS); however, there are some "filler" games in a few series (MGS3: Substance, Jak X, etc). Great installments, but not Earth-shattering sequels.

Slow year for games? No way :lol September alone has been a fantastic month:

Burnout 4
Moto GP3
Castlevania DS
Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike
Fary Cry: Instincts

This has been my favourite gaming year in ages - RE4, GT4, MGS3 (PAL), DMC3, Forza, Meteos, Lumines, Ridge Racers. ffs it's been amazing for me :lol

It's not as stacked as last year but it's not really "slow" either. PS2 has a nice lineup, X360 is launching, PSP is getting a new GTA, DS looks pretty good. 2003 was a slow year.

It wasn't slow if you're an RPG fan. Growlanser Generations (last days of 2004), Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Makai Kingdom, Radiata Stories, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Jade Empire, Riviera: The Promised Land, Atelier Iris, Xenosaga II, Arc the Lad: End of Darkness, Suikoden IV, Ys: Ark of Napishtim, Shining Tears, Shin Megami Tensei: DDS I and II...

I'm not sure RPG fans have ever had a better year. It's not over, either.

Get a DS. It has one of the best fall/winter lineups ever.

I was going to say yes, it is kind of a slow year unless you have a DS, where the onslaught has begun.

Edit: Yeah, sonarrat has a point, too. It's just that not many of those games have really been stellar. GLG was, but that IS last year.

Resident Evil 4 released this year. The game released in January and I'm still playing it in October. Great year.

Seriously.

Look at what I've played this year:

Resident Evil 4
Phantom Dust
Psychonauts
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
Meteos
Advance Wars Dual Strike
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Jump Super Stars

What I've still got to play:

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Gunstar Super Heroes
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
Phoenix Wright Attorney at Law
Half-Life 2 Xbox - my P3500+GeForce 1 can't handle it!! :lol
Metroid Prime Pinball
Mario Kart DS
Super Mario Strikers
Mario and Luigi 2

For me, this year beats last year hands down.

Edit: How could I forget M&L2??

What, do you only have a Gizmondo to play or something?

I know how you feel, but last year was the exception, with one of the highest quality fall/winter line-ups ever. This year there's only a couple games I'm looking to buy. Clearly this generation is pretty much over.

lots of good games this year but probably not as many big games as last year. Can somebody recommend a good RPG or two that came out this year? I'm jonsing for a new RPG and I'm not really sure what is considered the best of the RPGs this year.

edit: I like more of a story driven RPG (final fantasy, grandia etc.) and less of a dungeon crawler like .hack or something. I seriously was considering Digital Devil Saga but I'd like some suggestions. (I already know about Dragon Quest/Grandia coming)

I think most would agree that the two Digital Devil Saga games are the picks of the litter.

Radiata Stories is actually pretty ok. You know about DQVIII and Grandia III, Digital Devil Saga 2 is most assuredly your best bet.

Seriously, what are you talking about?

Needs more Minish Cap.

This year has been good, even though its odd when your most played game over the last two motnhs has been a demo(Battlefield 2:Modern Combat). But between the full version of Battleflied 2:MC for Xbox, RE4 for the ps2, DQVIII, and the 360 its going to be one hell of a finish.

Amir0x said:
Argh, that came out so early in the year I forgot. But it should not be easily forgotten, that's for sure!

Yeah... RE4 eclipsed it in popularity here, that's for sure. :\

Since I'm getting a DS this week for the sole purpose of Castlevania, what other DS titles of interest come out this year, besides the commonly-known titles such as Phoenix Wright and Mario Kart? Just a couple, I don't need a behemoth list or anything. :)

AniHawk said:

Which is sad, considering Minish Cap is by far the best Zelda game to come out this gen and one of the top Zelda games of all time!

If you can finish 40 games a month and already own all 7 major systems and a PC, then yes, the year is just crawling by!

MAGNA CARTA!! It will be good, believe!

seeing the list Amir0x posted makes me go "OMGWTF I'm missing a lot of games!"

slow year? pfft. tell that to me wallet

I remember buying Minish Cap and RE4 at the same time.

I played Minish Cap first. :)

Thanks for alphabetizing your list, and simultaneously making me realize I could never even play all the awesome games that came out/are coming out this year.

Did Subsistence get delayed or something? Also, not to nitpick, but Wario Ware Twisted probably deserves a spot. ;)

Yeah, great game. Both of 'em.

You're welcome. Yeah, I'm never going to catch up with my backlog. This gen is great.

Oh crap, Wario Ware Twisted DEFINITELY deserves a spot. It's one of my top five favorite games this year so far.

As for Subsistence, you ain't gonna believe this but the Konami JP website now has the US release listed for Winter 2006. I was stunned too.

Man. So that's probably just referring to the early months of 2006 (January-March)? Or do you think a year from now? Was there any explanation offered with it to confirm?
