The Curation algorithm is what needs to improve. When you see accounts spamming tweets automatically lower them in the que. Or be like gaf and limit tweeting to every 30 seconds.
Twitter doesn't automatically block out words like xxxxxx I'm running out of possible slurs. I figure this site must block out at least some of these works, especially the n-word, so can't twitter do the same thing? Heck, I'm on other forums that block out Jesus! Not to mention the words fuck, shit, etc.
Ok, ok, I"m gonna post this just to see which words ARE blocked out by this site software, but I actually don't know since I don't use slurs much in real life. please don't quote this! I'll delete it pronto.
EDIT: Oh wow, none of those words were blocked. Huh, I thought that was pretty standard. I'm actually not sure how I feel about it, to be honest. Should you be allowed to make an ass out of yourself or be "protected" for your own good but then that probably allows for more use of the words because folks know they can say it but its masked and that somehow seems to make it "more ok" to say.
Kinda like the vid of that drunk as shit blonde girl getting manhandled by some black ladies. The drunk girl is saying "n$%$%$%" and "bitch" but she is also so damn drunk that if a guy walked up, took her home, and banged the shit out of her most folks would say she couldn't consent and it was rape. So is being drunk freedom from culpability or not? Is a word filter license to say the word knowing it will be filtered or is the bad intent still there?

It goes to show that Hollywood and the east-coast glitteria are but a vocal minority on the platform and in no way representative of its global customer base. People seem to be forgetting that Americans aren't the only people on that website. The information and opinion bubble is real.

What Musk and Twitter should do is spend their time and money clamping down VERY HARD on the small minority that post the rancid shit. They're the ones who hear 'more free speech' and decide to fuck everything up with their nasty bullshit. But I guess that probably take too much effort, and he'll get accused of clamping down on free speech instead.

Musk is an engineer, his brain has good memory and pattern recognition, but he's not as smart in every topic as he think he is. And that's where much of the controversy and problems occurs. He has a compulsive need to involve himself and meddle in ALL things going on in the world even if he doesn't know jack shit about it. He would be better fit for shitposting in gaming forums.

I've been watching fairly closely, and I haven't seen Twitter limiting anyone's speech yet since he took over, other than removing slurs and such.
People were banned for impersonation, but that is not a matter of free speech, and it's exactly what would have happened a year ago if the same people did the same thing. What idea, opinion, value, belief, worldview, etc were they not able to express?
The number I saw reported in the press was 500% more uses of a particular slur. Five times means either it went up from 1 to 5, or 20 to 100, or 200 to 1000. But any way you consider the data, it means that Twitter had plenty of slur uses before he took over, and the media couldn't have cared less.
Thankfully that's exactly what already happened.

Advertisers don't have "views" that they enforce. They are on whichever "side" they think will make them the most money and get them the most clicks.
They do not enforce views, they monetize them. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of these companies and what they want out of business relationships like these lol.

Why were their convictions that way? Because the people running twitter were running it in a way they disliked. Now Elon is saying he is going to run it a different way. A position can change and should change when presented with new information.

I don't understand this perspective. Is it the building they're suppose to hate? Is it the name of the company? Is it the employees? Because it seems that a lot of the ones making the decisions that caused people to want the failure of twitter in the first place are no longer working there.
The argument would be: we wanted twitter to fail because of X, but now that X isn't a factor, twitter is no longer the same company we wanted to fail. Is there any sort of Ship of Theseus level change that could happen at twitter where you would no longer feel people were violating their convictions by not wanting the platform to fail anymore?

It hasnt lol. Thr only thing even proposed is now you'll have to pay a subscription fee for people who want to argue with you to get to argue with you. As many have pointed out, a lot of the "undesirables" with big accounts on the site have made no indication they are going anywhere.
Change of perspective is warranted when change actually becomes a tangible thing. But it seems to me twitter is going to be very much the same platform it always has been with a few added caveats. I was more so insinuating that Elon Musk presence as the figurehead of the platform is being hailed as some great return in light of these facts, and the fact that it doesn't really seem like he even knows what he wants this platform to be at this point.

This video covers a lot of the whole situation going on right now. I feel it gets the account impersonation details wrong, like a like of other sources it seems, but the reporting on advertisers goes into a lot more depth that I haven't seen elsewhere. It seems like Twitter was already losing a ton of ad support for various reasons before Musk took over, and likely lost all car manufacture support for reasons that are more strategic than anything else.
Some of the content earlier in the video gets a bit more political, so I put a timestamp right when he starts to go into detail about the advertisers.

Companies use Advertising funds to push agendas all the time. If you don't fall in line then no marketing dollars for you. That's why some companies will advertise on conservative networks and some refuse.
