Jade Empire screens

Looks superb to me. People hating on the style are clearly frequent viewers of that guy that wears that giant anime head mask thing.

I think it will end up going to the PC anyway, at least that what the developers hinted at.

If not, I think it would be a first for a bioware game not being released on the PC (at least not from the series).

According to the Dec. '04 issue of CGW, it is coming to PC eventually, says Bioware.

Maybe its not being developed simultaneously with the Xbox version, but down the line it will be ported.

I'm gonna get shot for saying this, but it reminds me of MK: Deception's lame ass Konquest mode. :lol

I'm sure it will be fun,I'm not particularly hyped for it though.

Some more info that peeps on this board are probably interested in...

Are you using the Knights of the Old Republic engine to create Jade Empire?

No. Jade Empire’s graphics engine is new from the ground up. Most of the core parts are completely different from KotOR, plus the KotOR engine had to run on the Xbox and PC, whereas Jade Empire is Xbox only.

Will there be lots of voice work, like in Knights of the Old Republic?

Yes, all the people you talk to in the game will have full voice over.

Will Jade Empire support Xbox Live?

The Jade Empire team is looking at the possibility of Xbox Live content but has no news on that right now. Keep checking back as the project develops.

Will there be a widescreen mode?

No.

Jade Empire is another D&D game, right?

No. Jade Empire has nothing to do with Dungeons and Dragons (well, ok, they are both role-playing. But other than that, nothing). DnD is a great system. We've worked very well with it in our Baldur's Gate series and our Neverwinter Nights series, but Jade Empire will be different. Jade Empire is a totally BioWare-created game and system.

You're nuts if you think BioWare is going to keep one of hteir dream projects exclusive to a console that will be dead within a year.

Missed this thread the first time. Looks fantastic. I like the bloom effect, gives it that dreamy folklorish quality. Sorta reminds me of Fable, perhaps, and I loved the environments in that.

Can't wait.

No widescreen
Shitty framerate
Bad art
So so graphic
Many bugs

Ok, I suck at trolling :D
I'm so glad that we've got someone who's played the final release version of the game here. Please tell us, what bugs did you encounter? How shitty was the framerate? Also, define bad art and so so graphics?

Yeah. That's what I thought. Maybe next time, sucker.

I may be incorrect but I believe it's MS call whether this goes to PC, not Bioware. Yea it could happen but I wouldn't hold my breath. I understand the skepticism though. Since it's a custom Xbox engine though I see no need to wait. Even KOTOR II with it's shiity framerate wasn't a reason for me to wait. It's here, I played it, it was great and now I'm off to other pastures.

Bioware >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Squeenix.

Based on what? your taste? objective facts? define taste, have you played FF XII? Yes, that´s is what I thought. Maybe next time.

;) I could be wrong but I think you missed the irony there.

I think it looks great, but the point I am really interested in this game is combat. I would like a PC release as well, but I will surely buy it if it´s Xbox only as well.

How interactive is the game? I'm so spoiled by Zelda where you can mess with almost everything. Pigs looks great in this title.

Jade Empire is a 2nd party Xbox game being published and at least partially funded by Microsoft. They will ultimately be the one who decide if a PC version will exist or not. They might have a clause in the contract saying that Bioware can release it for PC 1 year after the game is out on the Xbox or something like that (like Top Spin for example) though.
"Exclusive" 3rd party games like KOTOR are a totally different matter. MS could buy the exclusive weeks/months, or the publisher could simply realize that doing a "bug free" game is much simpler on a closed architecture like Xbox and let the PC version be debugged a few more months because of all the exotic configurations.
It will be a Xbox exclusive game for quite a long time, deal with it.

Ever since I caught a Jade Empire video mod on MTV 2 I've really really had a dislike for the whole game. These screens look nice though, I hope I can forget I ever saw that incredibly stupid music video.

I have a hard time believing BioWare would even consider entering into a contract without something like that clause you mentioned. Furthermore, the official line coming from Chris Priestly and the like is that they will make it if the demand is there. Do you think they would say something like that if they had a strict Xbox-only contract with MS?

Also, "deal with it?" I own an Xbox. this doesn't frustrate me in the least so there is nothing for me to "deal with."

i've been waiting for ff12 for 4 years now. but you guys are so easily swayed...i mean, on hindsight, ffx was such a crap game. my god.

They let you create your own character? Man, when I went to preorder this I thought I was just getting an ordinary run of the mill action RPG.Now I'm finding out just how much this thing has to offer. From all I've seen and heard this is going to be well worth the preorder.

I'd take a BioWare creation any day of the week over a Square-Enix. You guys enjoy what you like. I personally think it's ... eh no need to troll it.

You'd jump all over the first Square-Enix game on Xbox(2). :P

Yes, because after 1 year all Xboxen in the entire world will blow up

It looks a bit plain, graphically. Where's the colour? It definitely needs more colour...as it is it looks like a dull, washed out Shenmue. But really, we all know it's going to be great. :D

Let's see. MS says : "Ok guys, go mad and do your dream game, we'll pay for a big part of the development and also will do all the promotion/advertising for you. In return we want this game to be exclusive to our system and have a say if the game will be ported or not to the PC.". Do you think the bioware people, as big and renowned as they are have the financial hability or the will to 100% pay for 3 years of development of such an enormous game ? I think not, otherwise they would never have let MS publish it as a second party title. Second party means publishing, funding and a very big support from MS in term of help with the system, focus group stuff, things like that. In return MS gets the console exclusivity and definitely defines a date before a PC version can be released or even announced.
It's very common practice, just take a look at all the Xbox "exclusive" 2nd party games that finally have been released on PC. Most of them took at least one year (mostly depending on the sales of the Xbox version), and it's not just because porting takes times.

English is not my main language, I may sound harsher than I mean it sometimes.

THIS GAME NO COME TO PC. You know what I'm willing to put something on the line. If the game comes to PC by March 2006 (one year), then I'll ask the mods to give me a demeaning tag.

You would take any Xbox game instead of a PS2 game any day. You are just another xbox fanboy...

Scroll to the bottom of the linked article. Even they are not sure if it's going to stay exclusive.

I want to puke when I look at the art direction. I can't stand these westernized eastern art.

'Westernized eastern art' implies that the developers were trying to imitate the art style of popular anime/manga/games, with an (intentional or unintentional) Western twist. I could see you saying this if we were discussing Sudeki, but it's obviously not the case here. The art style on display here is pretty much your standard Western comic-book realism, judging by those screenshots. The only thing 'Eastern' here is the subject matter. Now, last I heard, there's no law against Westerners basing a game on Eastern themes. If you're going to bitch about that, then by the same token, you ought to be griping about Japanese developers putting their spin on Western swords and sorcery archetypes like knights and wizards in countless JRPG's. :p

Move to fucking japan, and play nothing but japanese games then u twit.

So now it's a Westerner's duty to prefer Western-developed games to ones out of Asia, as good Western citizens? And anybody who doesn't agree that 'West is Best' doesn't deserve to live here and should move to Japan? Sounds to me like that's what you're saying here, and all I can say to that is, 'Stop being a fucktard.'

KOTOR let me down a bit. I hope this world/theme is the right thing to freshen up Bioware's gameplay. I wonder if it plays like a Monk in NWN?

PS: Put it on the PC!

Making a Player Vs Player online lobby would be so good!

It could be some kind of arena were you can watch and participate in battles, they could also be exclusive items for those which compete.

belgurdo is correct.

and can the industry please get over bloom lighting already.

Generic art is still generic art, no matter where it comes from.

I would say spiky haired protagonist 42 found in most jap RPG's is as generic as it gets, as for the art being “generic” get some taste.

I can always count on you to defend Bioware.
