Mangold’s film, set during that dawning period of the timeline, will tell the tale of the first ever Jedi, in what he described as a ‘biblical epic.’ Dave Filoni will direct a new film sent in the time period of The Mandalorian, culminating the conflict between the Imperial Remnant and the New Republic. Lastly, Obaid-Chinoy introduced Jedi Master Rey Skywalker, Daisy Ridley herself, who will rebuild a new era of the Jedi Order in a new film.

Looks like they are trying to figure out what direction to take Star Wars.

Very happy for Dave Filoni finally getting a shot to direct a Star Wars movie. Must be a dream come true for him.

I’m all wait and see. Can’t stand KK, and those Nike shoes make her look more like a dope than cool.

Yay, another day, another slew of star wars films that will never see the light of day. Remember D&Ds (the game of throne guys) projects, Lindeloffs project, Rians projects, and patty Jenkins project? Yeah, none of us do either!

How has Guillermo del Toro never been attached to star wars? That guy has a dozen aborted films every year!

Give it to Bryce Dallas Howard, she at least can make a visually cool star wars film and with a good script I think she is the perfect fit.

(and as a director she won't have to lose weight..

The Dawn of the Jedi film could be cool I suppose. However, as with everything modern Star Wars, they'll probably use it to over-explain some dumb shit that never needed an explanation. I'll keep an eye on that one and hope for an Andor situation.

Edit: misunderstanding.

These movie "universes" and their announced timelines of movie releases are so tiresome. Does anyone get excited by this, announcing like ten different movies/shows at once, most of which are years away?

She’ll probably do the second movie in the New Jedi Order trilogy.
How is Rey a jedi master? That's how the article describes her. She did a little training with Luke then it was the last movie.

I would have called her a jedi knight. She did the cool healing power on the sand snake but what elevates you to master status? Don't you have to have a padawan?

The jedi order is obviously starting over but shit better be different

It’s fifteen years later.

Will reserve judgement on Mangold until I see what he's done to Indy 5, the new trailer looked somewhat promising.

Dave Filoni will make a toy advert, so arguably the most faithful star wars film possible. For better and for worse.

The last one is being made by an activist first and filmmaker second, and I believe its the one Damon Lindelof recently stepped back from. I'd have been more confident if he'd stayed on board after leftovers and watchmen. As it is, it'll likely be crap but at the very least it's moving the story forward post TROS.

The one silver lining here is that there's still no sign of Rian Johnson's trilogy. Lol, lmao even.

This is too much SW, but it's likely 80% of this gets canceled.

Also, they must have told Mangold, "Dress like a math teacher" when they told him to attend this.

Its just so strange to me that the people in charge at Disney and Lucasfilm seem to have forgotten what made Star Wars so appealing in the first place.

Its not exactly complicated; SW came along and was a complete antidote to the overall grittiness and cynicism of the 1970's. It was escapism, pure space opera of a kind not seen in decades. You look at the SF movies and TV in the years leading up to it and its complete night and day!

Do. That. Again. $$$

What you don't do is try and make heavy handed statements, especially relating to topical issues. Its anathema to the core appeal.

I can already see a "the first jedi" film cribbing directly from Wheel of Time with a "feminine=light" and "masculine=dark" polarized system because the "first fedi" was a woman tired of seeing other force users beat people up. The bad guys will look suspiciously like Andrew Tate, Joe Rogan, and Jordan Peterson :p

Kathleen "the force is female" Kennedy has been hinting at this for years.

Tired SW fan. Man... the saturation is strong. Even more than usual. I dunno, I liked Andor.
I hope some of these are good entertainments that people enjoy. Can't say I'm gonna watch most of 'em, and I never thought I'd say that.

I'm both for and against it. On one hand I like to hear about what's coming, and all of the projects are always so far off that I don't need to feel some kind of urgency or wild hype. On the other hand it does feel a bit like advertising overload that dilutes a brand.

Tag, you're it.
Can't wait to see Jedi apprentices call Rey "Master Skywalker"

Also

"from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a documentary specialist who currently deals with serious societal issues such as women's rights, violence against women, poverty and education."

You know how this will translate in a Disney movie, can't fuckin wait.

You realize that had NOTHING to do with Star Wars right? It was an Air Force/Nike thing the rage baiters lied about to make people like you angry.
And how astute of a CEO to purposely piss off the core audience for the product? How many new folks did it bring to the brand versus how many did it turn away?

"Sides, I don't buy the "it was all a nike ad!".

This is the Kathleen Kennedy photo:

THIS is the nike shirt:

what, pray tell, is different about the last shirt, not present on the shirt WORN AT A FILM FESTIVAL not, BTW, sponsored by Nike, where she said this:

“It’s a conversation we’ve had really going back to what George Lucas did with Princess Leia,” Kennedy said. “And we carried on in that tradition, and I think we’ve created some really strong females with characters like Rey in ‘The Force Awakens’ and Jyn in ‘Rogue One.’ [We’re] having strong, empowered females in these stories, and really allowing them to become heroes, which seems to be, oddly, a new concept, but fantastic— that seems to be getting some traction, so that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Hmm, that nike ad campaign tie in seems....tenuous at best. The Archer film festival was in May of '17, I don't think that nike campaign fired off till a year later in '18

But, you know, you do you.

So? I'm saying that wearing a shirt with that slogan, no branding, at a FILM FESTIVE, not sponsored by Nike (that I can tell) AND talking about female representation in Star Wars BY THE HEAD OF LUCASARTS, how thick of a marker do I need to connect the dots for you? Whatever the origin of the phrase (and I bet FOR SURE that Nike had to negotiate with Lucasrts lawyers to use "The Force" in such a context) the way she wore it was referring to Star Wars, not a sneaker.

I assure you that did not piss off the core audience. The core audience is comprised of people of all walks of life and ages. It's Star Wars after all.

In fact I'd wager most people don't care. I bet I could ask all 50-or-so people I know and none of them would have even heard about it (like me), and when showed it would not be bothered. Why do you care if they make strong female characters?

You'd really detest the Studio Ghibli films man.
