I don't have a problem with Marbury saying he is the best PG in the game. When you break it down and look at each skill seperately he probably is. He's a better shooter than Kidd, he's got a better handle as far as breaking a man down. But I think it's funny that he is coming straight out and saying it. It's probably just the New York in him talking. He's trying to get the rivalry going again.

except wins. Sorry, but a point guard's main job is supposed to be making his team and teammates better. Marbury has been in like 3 playoff games his entire career. That has to factor into the equation.

No way. A PG should be evaluated first and foremost on his ability to get the ball to his teammates in scoring situations. Everything else is secondary. Sure if you look at each skill, he's probably the most talented player playing PG, but he's definetly not the best PG. There is a huge distinction between those two labels.

Look at what happened to the Nets after he was swapped for Kidd....an immediate two trips to the finals. Or look at the Suns (an even better example). Last year the Suns started terribly and Marbury was traded to New York for what was basically cap room. That cap room was then used to sign Steve Nash, who I would argue is the best PG in the league right now. Where did that land the Suns? With the best record in the league, all because of a PG swap.

This Portland/Suns game (at the half now) has been fantastic. The Suns scored 41 points in the 2nd quarter! They're just so much fun to watch out there.

Go Blazers. This Suns team ain't all that!

PS: When did the Spurs start running off every rebound? Holy crap, they are beating the Kings at their own game. The again, they are shooting like crap so far :lol

God, it pisses me off to watch balzer games sometimes, the suns barely work for there shots while the blazers use most of the shot clock to get a shot off, and they miss..Amare wit almost 50 points :/

Konex, just for fun, can you seriously root AGAINST the Raptors in every upcoming game? I'll tell you who they're facing, and you can cheer on that team. Please. Tomorrow they play the ORLANDO MAGIC. You are going to cheer for the ORLANDO MAGIC.

:lol Konex, you need to start up one of those "Pick'em Hotlines" that you see commercials for in Vegas all the time.

"CALL 1-900-KONEX! I'LL GIVE YOU MY WEEKLY TOP 5 CAN'T MISS PICKS AND YOU PUT MONEY ON THE OTHER TEAM! GUARANTEED!"

You need to read my posts more carefully, I asked what he did to piss off God not if he had made a deal with the devil (aka Jordan/Brady/Bush).

:lol

I'm ok if you diss Jordan, but you cross the line when you compare Jordan to those flukes and idiots!

I have it on Comcast Digital. $159 if you buy it in pre-season. $189 after that. It's free this week BTW for anyone who doesn't have it :)

so its a flat fee per season, and thats in addition to your monthly cable? and do you get EVERY game?

Oh well, looks like the Spurs are going to lose. Just like the last loss against the magic, atrocious FT shooting. Ugh.

Edit: Ooh, a tag. Purdy. :lol

Konex how many game winning shots has Kobe missed this year? I figure he has missed at least 2 and maybe 3 and he is going to miss more then he makes if he has to keep up the pace he is at. Lakers need to figure out a way to get Kobe and Odom some easy shots. You can't make jumpers with any regularity when your legs are gone in the 3rd quarter.

Dammit, now the Spurs are gonna be pissed as hell on Tuesday :(

Yep, you can expect a 20+ points blowout. Just the way the Spurs respond after losses. Plus it's the Lakers, so it'll be even easier. :D

Didn't you see what Konex said? He implied the Spurs would blow out the Lakers.

Sorry Bat, but the Spurs just got "Konexed". I imagine Duncan and Ginobli will be out for a month because of it.

All Hail C-Webb

Hailing from the Chill-Web
Kings win, Webber outplays Duncan, Barber breaks the Giants single season rushing record, and the Giants win. That was the best half hour in sports, ever.
Now all I need si for the Kings to finally win at the Garden (going to be there, near the floor :)).

Webber sure knows how to fill the box score:

REB: 13
AST: 7
STL: 4
BLK: 3
TO: 7
PF: 5
PTS 14

Damnit, forgot about that. Hopefully the Spurs have some of that teflon Jordan stuff DM talks about, but I can't find a connection between the team and MJ. :-(

:lol If the teflon holds up even after a player's retirement, we're saved!

Konex's power > Jordan.

You can still save the Spur's season though, tell Pop to bench all 5 starters.

lmao ESPN put up the recap of the first Nuggets/Lakers game for this one:

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Maybe the Los Angeles Lakers can be successful without having Kobe Bryant be the whole show. They certainly were in their first game as Bryant's team.

Bryant had 25 points, seven assists and three blocked shots, and Chris Mihm added a career-high 23 points and 12 rebounds Tuesday night as the Lakers never trailed in beating the Denver Nuggets 89-78.

"It was fun. We had a blast out there, especially defensively," Bryant said following the Lakers' first game in eight years without Shaquille O'Neal on their roster.

It was also Rudy Tomjanovich's first game as the Lakers' coach. He succeeded Phil Jackson, who coached the team to three championships and another berth in the NBA Finals in five years.

"I'm glad that's over," Tomjanovich said with a big smile. "I thought our defense was just excellent. That's what we need to be a running team."

The Nuggets, one of the NBA's most improved teams last season, shot a horrific 34.1 percent (30-of-88) including 25 percent (11-of-44) in the first half.

Caron Butler added 11 points, Brian Cook scored 10 and Lamar Odom had 13 rebounds for the Lakers. Butler and Odom were acquired from Miami along with Brian Grant for O'Neal during the offseason.

Bryant shot just 5-of-14 but made 14 of 15 foul shots. He scored 17 points after halftime.

"We really did well with our execution and our ball movement," Bryant said. "We competed hard and we played together, and that pleased me very much. We prepared very well. We knew what they were going to do defensively and we worked off it."

The Lakers led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter before the Nuggets rallied within seven in the final minute. But that's as close as they would get.

Voshon Lenard scored 13 points for the Nuggets before tearing his left Achilles' tendon with 4:42 left in the third quarter. He will undergo surgery and probably be sidelined for the season, a team spokeswoman said.

A downcast Lenard declined comment after the game.

"Losing Voshon is the worst," Marcus Camby said. "Losing a game, I mean, we weren't going to go 82-0. We just have to regroup, get better.

"My stomach dropped. I feel for the guy. It's the first game of the season and he's maybe done for a long time. I just hope for the best for the guy. It's really hard to come back from an injury like that, but he's still going to be with us in spirit and in our hearts."

Carmelo Anthony led Denver with 20 points. Kenyon Martin, playing his first game for the Nuggets, had 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Camby had 16 rebounds and six blocked shots to go with eight points.

"This wasn't the real Nuggets team, especially in that first half, but give the Lakers credit," Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "I'm sure they had a lot to do with it."

Baskets by Bryant and Butler in the opening minute of the third quarter put the Lakers on top 54-31. Bryant scored eight points in the final five minutes of the quarter, helping the Lakers extend their lead to 72-57.

Bryant spoke briefly before the opening tipoff, thanking fans for their support. Then, instead of taking over the offense as many expected, he deferred to Mihm, who had 19 points and nine rebounds in the first half as the Lakers took a 50-31 lead.

"This is a good situation -- a good fit for me on this team," Mihm said. "It's a great start for the season. I'm a happy man, I can sleep well tonight. I played well and more important, the team won."

Game notes
The Lakers have won 12 of their last 13 home openers and 15 of their last 16 home games against the Nuggets. ... Denver went from 17-65 two years ago to 43-39 and a playoff berth last season. "The next jump, I think, is going to be more difficult," Bzdelik said. ... The Lakers have only four players on their active roster returning from last season -- Bryant, third-year guard Kareem Rush, and second-year forwards Cook and Luke Walton. ... The Nuggets have four newcomers -- Martin, DerMarr Johnson, Greg Buckner and Bryon Russell, who played for the Lakers last season.

I skimmed most of it and then read about Lenard and was like, "Wait a minute...I've already read this before..."

Count of Concision
Whoa, I just came home and I'm watching NBA Fastbreak on ESPN2, and I can't believe that Stoudemire had 50 points on 20-27 from the floor, with 14 dunks. Insane.

I just didn't think that a guy with NO set offensive game (i.e., no post moves, and is not a post-up go-to guy on offense) could get 50, even with the Suns' usual fast pace. Crazy. And 14 dunks is EASILY the modern record for dunks in a game (Shaq had the previous record with 8, as far as I know; they didn't keep this stat in Wilt's day, though). Best shooting 50 point game since Jordan went for 53 on 21-28 from the field in '96. I just can't believe it. His little fadeaway post-up J at the end showed that he's gonna be great when he starts practicing his post moves.

And damn, Kobe had a good shooting night and a big game (42 pts. and 4 steals), but did he really get called for 5 offensive fouls like you guys are saying? He did have 7 TO's (and leads the league with 4.75 TO's per game :p), so I guess it's possible. So you mean that he didn't get whistled for a single defensive foul in the game? :lol He shoulda been tossed. ;) :D 5 offensive fouls has GOT to be some sort of record. What the hell was he doing-- putting his head down and trying to penetrate on every possession? He shot a great percentage tonight, which would seem to indicate that he was taking it to the basket a lot...
