January Wrasslin' |OT| It's a New Year, Yes It Is!

It makes me sad to think that a year ago Rusev was one of the last two in the Rumble and this year he's just going to be geek fodder. Dude crashed hard in a year. So much for a Cena program elevating anybody.
Rumble is unpredictable. Remember, Santino almost won the rumble.

WM in 2016 is likely to revolve around HHH, The Rock, Brock, Undertaker and Jericho with an appearance by Austin.

WM in 2002 revolved around HHH, The Rock, Undertaker, Jericho, Austin (there was some other guy there too but I can't recall his name for some reason).

A net gain of one!
Whom the 2003 WM revolved around along with HHH, The Rock, Undertaker, Jericho, Austin...

Speaking of wrasslecasts, I've been listening to this Lapsed Fan business you guys like and it's not great. I mean, it's okay. I enjoy the subject matter most of the time, but the hosts themselves are kind of eeeehhhh. They try to critique a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense, and sometimes things go over their heads and they just look dumb. And they laugh a lot. Like, that's fine when I'm laughing with, but I'm usually not.

All in all, from what I remember, I greatly prefer OSW Review. Those guys at least make old Simpsons allusions. :D

Remember when rubbish tag team jobber Justin 'Hawk' Bradshaw was suddenly decreed a solo main eventer overnight despite being a bit, you know, shit apart from his clotheline?

They could take the same approach with Harper and succeed in making a threatening top line heel. But nope, he's Spooky Job Squad for life yo.

Christ, if they put a fraction of the effort they put into Reigns each week into other members of the roster they wold be in a much stronger position.

Did you just give the Lapsed Fan a C+?

My return to wrasslin' was driven by the discovery of OSW Review, although during the past year i've found the quality a bit inconsistent. I loved their couple of movie reviews and the Halloween Havoc one they did, but the WCW Invasion series felt a bit flat, like they weren't that into it, and the recent tattoo review 'let's watch' shows are the first time i've given up on their stuff before finishing it. That said, someone new to OSW has plenty of great shows to mine though.

I've caught up with Lapsed Fan, and i've enjoyed it a lot. Lapsed Vince is great, although the shows tend to be on in the background while doing other stuff and I zone in and out.

No joke, no exaggeration:

That was one of the absolute worst RAW's I have ever seen. That was pure hot garbage. Ever segment, every match. The booking was some of the worst tripe I have ever witnessed.

I think we are at an all time low for the product.

No, I put too much time into that post. My grades are more knee-jerk-y.

And about my grades, now that there are so many, I was thinking about streamlining them. I mean, who cares, right? It's just hard to make sense of the vastness -- all those pluses and minuses. Anyway, I was considering doing something like this:

B+, B = A
B-, C+ = B
C, C- = C
D+, D = D
F = F

Some posters have said I shouldn't change it -- and I'd lose the charming infamy of never giving a show an A -- but it seems like it'd be easier to digest.

I dunno, just thinking.

Last time Jericho was good was his feud with HBK. That was what, 08?
He was great up until he left again for the second time, so late 2010. Then he came back, again, and feuded with Ziggler, Punk, and few others but he was losing every match so it was all for nought.

It goes with the gimmick. You could buy Bradshaw being this JBL character because of his presence and new 'life' he had started living. From drinking beer and kicking ass to Wall Street kiss ass. He could do that. Harper needs a whole new makeover. Also, unfortunately for him, most fans no nothing about him or what he is aside from weird dude with big eyes.

Just started watching Raw and all of this Martin Luther King stuff just comes out so wrong from a company that is known for it's racist characters.

It sounds so fake. I mean, last year we had three black performers that were a gospel group that clapped a lot.

But then they put this video-packages like they respect Martin Luther King a lot and equality.

Yeah, OSW is what brought me back into the wrassle fold. I haven't watched it in probably over a year, though.

Lapsed Vince is definitely a high point. Consistently amusing.

May I suggest a title for the Royal Rumble OT?

Royal Rumble 2016 |OT| Follow The Buzzers

Heh, that's cute.

the last lapsed fan may have been one of their best episodes yet.

The 1988 starcade had so much shit going on.

For as much as I though Vince put dusty in polkadots because he was a bitter human being who wanted to mock something he didn't create or destroy someone who competed with him, he may have done the right thing bringing dusty down a peg.

Holy shit did Dusty and Crocket fuck up.

The only part I really don't like about their podcast now is the fan email. They get way into the self masturbatory gimmick. But their made up impressions of people and super detailed history is what makes me listen to every episode.

RAW has been entirely about Roman Reigns for a month and a half.

The Royal Rumble is pretty much "Roman Reigns the PPV".

It's hard times dadeh for any of us that don't really care about Reigns.

Yeah, I just started, so I'm listening to a bunch of earlier stuff. Maybe they get better. Not that they're terrible -- it's good enough for me to keep listening -- but I feel like I'm saying in my head a lot "okay, guys, let's keep this thing moving along."

And maaan, the Rumble is sounding pretty bad. Can't wait for Sunday. Haha...

I will take Roman over Cena. Even though these RAW's have been some of the worst I have ever seen.

Bradshaw can cut a promo and get heel heat like a mother fucker too.

Brody, I've never seen his work. I know he's very talented though.

I thought it was reasonably entertaining and set up what it needed to set up and the parts where the production or matches were botched made me laugh anyways. I guess I'm just low-brow.

Even though Reigns himself is not terrible, the problem is Vince taking a massive dump on the rest of the show and the entire roster because Reigns is the only priority. Everyone else (outside of Lesnar) is third banana and are just there to be bodies collecting a paycheck.
Oh shit. I'll have to listen when I get a chance.

oh man, that's not a good sign for this podcast. You know they did a 7 hour podcast on Wrestlemania 17? lol

I love the long length, honestly. Most podcasts are too short for me. I listen to podcasts while doing cardio or playing kideo games, so the longer the better. and the lapsed fan is the longest.

Honestly, the parts I liked least about Raw were Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman.

Heyman's a walking merch advertisement that just spews catchphrases for 5 minutes every time he appears on TV and McMahon can't even get through a promo anymore.

Jericho is approaching Roman Reigns level of Cheesy Cornball but at least you can chalk it up to him being Dad Rock personified.

amazing that kevin owens will likely be involved in a nothing midcard battle royale at mania while bray fucking wyatt gets yet another major singles match on the show

nothing makes sense

I think Owens is getting Taker or Lesnar at Mania.

Why does Vince like Bray so much? Imagine Cesaro in his spots and the macthes that would happen.

Truth. Though Cesaro's currently out with an injury IIRC.

What I think the RR Twist will be - Lesnar will be like 4th or 5th, and will throw Reigns out sub 15 minutes. Suplex City for a solid 30 minutes, then the Wyatts / League of Nations throw Lesnar out. HHH comes in at 30th and wins the title.

Jericho has never been actively bad as far as I'm concerned. At his worst, the Wyatt stuff was OK. I'm convinced his podcast ruined him for people, that's when the Jericho backlash started (and the podcast is fine once you learn to skip the intro). People who think Jericho is terrible now are the worst kind of hipsters.

That's one way to ensure the Rumble ends to unanimous booing from the crowd again. So yeah, that'll happen.

Because Bray is one of the most comfortable guys on the mic they have and that is a hundred times more valuable than being good at indie wrestling spots

Looks like Lesnar/Wyatt is where it might be heading into Mania judging from this last RAW.

But your booking prediction for the Rumble seems pretty likely.
