Went to Rui Hashimoto's brand Stingray's pop-up store today in Harajuku, aaaand got a picture with him! Dude is the official photographer of a lot of bands I love like the HIATUS, Nothing's Carved In Stone, cinema staff, Straightener, ONE OK ROCK so it definitely made my day :D
Such a nice guy, we talked for a couple of minutes... A pleasure to finally meet him.
Very cool! I love these kind of posts :D
Practicing your Japanese? ;)

That's awesome! I enjoy meeting the people behind the camera. I shoot bands on occasion, but nothing close to the cool stuff he's done.

Went to Shinjuku Loft yesterday night to see Brian the Sun, Bentham and セプテンバーミー (September Me).
QB4blZa.jpg

Haruki (Brian the Sun's bassist) was DJing before the beginning of the show, he was quite into it. It was fun to see him dancing :D

First up was Bentham, a band that made their indie debut last year with KOGA Records (KEYTALK's label back when they were indie), they already seem to have a solid fanbase, I saw a lot of fans with Bentham merch. Great set, definitely convinced me that they were a super fun band.

Next was September Me. Was really excited to see them (even though Brian the Sun were my favorite band of the night), they deserve more recognition. Their songs are just too good, the drummer is super cute, she's the one who designs their goods...
妖怪ダンス live blew my mind <3 They also played a new song which was pretty damn good, I'm just sad cause it'll be on their upcoming CD that's only sold during live shows.

Brian the Sun were the last band playing, arguably the most famous band tonight. Crowd was into it right from the start. They played all their hit songs as well as two new songs, both were amazing and quite different from their usual stuff. They came back for an encore where they played 虹, a pretty old song, only a handful of fans knew it (I didn't, it's on a sold out single released in 2011 so...).

So yeah it was great!

Don't think I'll go to another show, not a lot of artists I like are performing in Tokyo right now. I'm leaving next week anyway.
Might try to go to Disk Garage Music Monsters, a festival with artists such as Suck a Stew Dry, Mrs. GREEN APPLE, 赤色のグリッター, ircle... but I'm not sure.

New Large House Satisfaction is awesome

Also digging the new CreepHyp, though I prefer the lead track of the upcoming single

Yonezu Kenshi showing he's just one of the best artists right now with his new PV, fucking amazing

I quite like the Shiina Ringo song I hear during Coca Cola commercials even though I usually dislike her music. Pretty catchy.

Anyone heard of Macdonald Duck Eclair? I'm a fan of Clarion, Mac Teenage Riot, and Tip Tap Mac. Clarion was part of the "Good Girls Don't! Xxxtra" compilation which is a fun listen. They're on US Spotify as well.

Reminder that I should check in on this thread more frequently :l hopefully this response is valid a month later.
Macdonald Duck Eclair are great, love them and Plus Tech Squeeze Box

They're definitely my favorite picopop groups, others come off a little bit one-note or overly saccharine for me to fully enjoy.

Yes! I had forgotten about Plus Tech Squeeze Box, so thanks for the reminder.

I haven't listened to Razors Edge in 8 years, but I'm happy they're still around. I found them on a punk compilation and thought they were nuts. The singer has calmed down a bit and sounds more like Justin from The Locust/Retox, which I'm okay with.

ha, I like that. it really could be a Locust spinoff group. Sounds like Holy Molar.

Keiko's voice is the huskier one. Namie is the first to sing solo.

Oh wow, I didn't realize they only had one lead vocalist. The vocals are so clean that Namie's voice is alien. It's always got that doubled/tripled filter on it on her own songs.

I was going to link Kana Nishino's new pv but it's so boring I don't want to

So Namie Amuro is collaborating with SHOW-YA on they're 30th anniversary album. The song is called GENKAI LOVERS.
Here's a preview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMhaDS2ImB8

Be right back y'all, need to be resuscitated.
the song is amazing

Ehhh not my thing at all, but I do appreciate Namie's vocals on it.

Still waiting for Revolution with CK to drop

Played a few rhythm games at Akihabara today, they had The Mirraz, 9mm Parabellum Bullet, Gesu no Kiwami Otome, Sakanaction, Perfume, SEKAI NO OWARI... :D Needless to say it's way easier when you already know the songs.

I quite like the video actually, I think it goes well along with the song
Still my favorite song by the duo so I'm biased haha

song still rules, the post-it thing is pretty well done, but eh. and the sideways video makes me furious

anyway, i've had a bad day so to cheer myself up i decided to finally knuckle down and make a tumblr for ladies of japanese music flipping the bird

http://nakayubi-aidoru.tumblr.com/

i've got enough in the queue now for like two weeks and i'm not even through my own personal stash. but please submit any others you come across :)

Well I went and got myself obsessed with yet another obscure alternative idol group called sora tob sakana. Bits of shoegaze, emo, math & post rock, I hear influence from Mogwai and Cornelius. Closest idol comparisons would be Hauptharmonie, 3776, Maison book girl, BiS/BiSH. Apparently their music is produced by a guy from the band haisuinonasa. They seem to have been signed to Asobisystem's new idol label and should have their first single out in October.

Also got into Psybou-Kanojo, who sounds sort of like what I'd imagine if Takashi Ueda produced Aira Mitsuki's music. I guess she's an idol too maybe. She's just as likely to share a bill with metal bands as she is with other idols, but I guess that's true for a lot of acts these days.

Went to Disk Union today, saw TWO copies of KANA-BOON's second mini-album back when they weren't even with a label, わかってないのは僕だった. 12.000yen though...

Also, I saw NICO Touches the Walls's guitarist while walking in Shibuya... Holy crap.

that's awesome. if money wasn't tight this last month, I would have ordered one.

maybe they'll still have some in a few weeks.

I like how they specify it's a limited pressing like anyone would expect them to sell more than like 50 copies

ha, I was surprised that they sold out of their pressing of Bis Kaidan 1 so quickly, you mean there's 499 other weirdos like me out there?!?!

Someone asked for a translation of the little dialogue in the middle of the new indigo la end MV, so I did one. I figured I'd post one for those of you who don't know Japanese (although I know a good portion of you do).
どうしたの？
"What's wrong?"
何でもないよ
"There's nothing wrong!"
何でもないことないじゃん
"It's obviously not nothing."
私なんかと付き合って場合じゃないのかなぁって...
"I'm wondering if maybe it's not the right time to date me..."
意味分かんないんだけど...
"I don't know understand what you mean..."
私だって意味分かんないよ！
"I'm the one who doesn't understand!" (literally: I'm the one who doesn't understand the meaning!)

Edit: Creepy Hyp also commented on the video. haha. A lot of people are in love with Enon's romantic chin lift. I'm glad I just learned "顎クイ."

"Kawatani-san's chin lift is kinda... erotic."
