through some weird transformative property, even knockoff Hoshino Gen is better than Hoshino Gen proper

but I'm still not into it

Odd turn for Akai Koen.
Yeah, their style has been a bit all over the place lately. All of their latest songs are cool but it'll be a weird album.

They've always been all over the place. From their last album, ひつじ屋さん is nothing alike 絶対的な関係 which is nothing alike 木 which is nothing alike TOKYO HARBOR which is nothing alike 108, etc...

"Lately" ecompasses the last album!
Before that it was more consistent tone-wise.

So I just found out about SCANDAL the other day from their song Harukaze in Bleach. I watched Bleach when it was originally running until the start of the battle in Karakura town and then I got kinda bored so I dropped it, but I recently decided to pick it up again and finish it.

Heard Harukaze in the opening of the last season and I thought it sounded good. I liked the guitar work and it's easy to listen to, but then I heard the full version when I started looking for more stuff by SCANDAL.

What the hell is the singer (Haruna) doing with her voice at some points in the song? Pretty sure she's deliberately trying to put on a gruff, rougher voice and it sounds so bad. This point in particular, when she says hitori ja fuan da yo.

Haven't listened to that much of their stuff, but she can sing just fine without making that weird voice so I hope she doesn't do it too often, otherwise it's going to make it hard for me to listen to them.

it looks like the same channel that's doing the 3MC1Porsche thing is also going to be doing a show for the BiSH Cannonball Run that happened recently. They put up some trailers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De0x5gDWlFk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjpK0G1hNmU

Basically the premise was that they split the group up into teams, gave them 100,000 yen, and whoever could travel the furthest with the most money left over wins 150,000 yen.

whoever decided to make Momoko and Lingling a team is my hero

I'm dying. I mentionned on Twitter that I bought Ame no Parade's new album and the vocalist liked my tweet.
I proceed to congratulate him for their debut etc... I forgot that a few weeks ago I said that he looked like Komuai so his answer isn't "Thanks!" it's "Do you think we look alike?" attached with a picture of them! Had no idea they were friends.
The fact that he looked at my other tweets is hilarious.
Dude just earned 1000 sympathy points. Their new album is pretty great, too.

Was really hoping she would continue in the direction of songs like EXODUS and S-T-A-R-S from the last album.

Her new producer is someone who mainly does jingles for CMs. That was noteworthy enough to put in the press release, I've got a feeling the album is going to be bad.

Haha awesome.

SCANDAL's album is up, time to listen to that. Also waiting for Namie's tour to be uploaded somewhere, I'd normally wait for my DVD but no.

I like the music but in all honesty it's probably the least amusing thing about the group.

Lurkette over on hello-online has translated some interviews, they're great.

OK those interviews did it. I definitely need to check them out.

SCANDAL's new album YELLOW released yesterday is a lot of fun. The fairly eclectic mix of pop and rock on that LINE playlist of favorite songs makes a lot of sense when you listen to the album. Definitely goes from Nirvana to Carly Rae Jepsen via No Doubt. There are also some really satisfying heavy slow jams. The singles are not the strongest tracks on the album, in general.

I'm sure someone on here knows Utae. Hell, one of you has probably posted about her before, unbeknownst to me. Anyway, she posted a new MV, and I didn't see it here. Enjoy some Dream Pop.

There's actually 2 different versions of Harukaze that were used for the Bleach intro. The first which ran up until episode 361 was the original rough draft if you will, it sounds a little more grittier and garage-y. For episodes 362 and on they used the final version of the song which is kinda softer, more polished.

Also if you watched all of Bleach you heard another of their songs called Shoujo S that was used as one of the opening themes prior to Harukaze.

Haruna lost her voice in 2011 and went on tour instead of recovering and so it got damaged real bad. She's gotten much better in the last 3 years but she can't really sing with any power like she did back in 2010 otherwise she goes off key. Also her voice used to be a bit deeper. Despite Tomomi's "cute" voice, which you either love or hate, I would say she is stronger vocally than Haruna.

Personally I probably prefer their rock songs like "Shunkan Sentimental", "Rainy" "Metronome", "24 Jikan Plus no Yoake Mae" and "Onegai Navigation" but I have mostly really enjoyed all their songs except the odd track here and there although I'm not so sure if this will continue as they seem to be changing their style a lot and I'm not really sold on it. I didn't really like "Suki Suki" at all and then while I'm mostly okay tracks like "Sisters" and their latest "Love Me Do" as songs I just would never think they were SCANDAL songs. There's so much Auto-tune and such; it's just weird. I've followed them since before their major label debut so it just seems like a huge shift all of a sudden. Maybe they have to evolve like this to stay relevant though? After all, I thought "Image" was a fantastic song and their best music video and yet it was one of their worst selling single ever, so what do I know? I'll have to listen to the whole album to really see though. Youtube Red has made it so hard for me to keep with Japanese music lately though; so sad.

They're looking really good though (well except for Haruna's hairstyle, she deserves better than that mop); their petite-ness combined with their minimal makeup makes them almost seem like teenagers still.

Sad to learn that Base Ball Bear's guitarist is leaving the band, guess he lost all motivation, he stopped coming to the studio weeks ago and didn't answer any calls...
http://natalie.mu/music/news/178316
He didn't show up for the band's set at Chatmonchy's festival but at that time they just said that he wasn't feeling well. Ishige Akira from the telephones replaced him.

She's pretty new so maybe people don't know her yet (though I already had her EP on my J-pop calendar). Bonus Hachigatsu-chan in the video. This should be well-received.

Totally in love with Tentenko's latest.

Younapi's solo thing is a bit of a letdown though. :\

Wow really liked this, reminded me a little of early 90s band Insides. Any and all Augustchan appearances are also welcome!

touch my secret / revenge

someone in here liked the last song, this is for you.

Saki (2&/Guso Drop) and Kai (Screaming Sixties) are doing an acoustic duo thing, hah. mildly curious?

I'd never seen Hachigatsu's hilarious/bad tattoo before. I want to see what's on the other leg.

are they even real? I can't find other pictures with them

e: might be tights?

I vm don't agree that they're moving in one direction away from rock. They've become more diverse. The shift started with their last album and the reason is pretty obvious: That was when they started composing all their own material.

Again, the diversity is here. There's light hearted pop rock, and fun ska diversions, but then there's the shoegaze, the Cobain-y grunge (Heaven na Kibun on this album), and heavy slower jams (like Chiisana Honoo). Definitely check out the full album. For their last few albums they've had some of their poppiest songs, yes, but also some of their most alternative or heavy. Difference from their earlier days is it's not all stadium rock anymore.

I think as they take control over their own career the music simply reflects the personalities and tastes of the members. They're happier and prouder to talk about their own music than ever before. There are tracks I don't care much for, like 'Sisters', definitely, but I don't expect Scandal to be that perfectly consistent band. It's been fun following them grow and I think they've been more interesting than ever the last few years.

Sounds alright, especially GODcustomer, 骨抜きに恋して, ベルサッサ and PH4

GODcustomer, 腰掛けラップ, and 等身大グレー are the only ones that stood out to me, but I also just kind of recoil at the sound of their poppier music.

Pretty excited for this Shinsei Kamattechan live DVD. I need them to release something new soon~

it feels like it's been forever, but I guess it's only been a little over a year and a half. at the pace japanese artists put out music, that is kind of a long time. DVD looks rad.
