Really? I've been to Giru twice and both times there were queues (I even camped the second time,) I went to the first two Dir en grey UK gigs and there were massive queues (that went right around the building) and The Gazette which had a huge queue from very early in the morning - as a lot of people camped over night.
I've not been to any in the past few years so perhaps the fans have mellowed out somewhat by now.

I saw Girugamesh 2 years ago. Was it that time? I haven't seen Dir En Grey nor The Gazette, but Girugamesh was alright. It wasn't even sold out, so you could have come there around 8 and just get in easily.

I can't remember the year (shocking memory) maybe I saw you? LOL

Anyway, I was meaning more if cloudwalking (or anybody) wanted to get near the front, you'd have to arrive super early because there are very devoted fans who fight for the front of the queues - like I mentioned earlier, once you're actually inside it's not much of an issue because the venues are quite small, and everybody pushes forward - so you can be near the back of the queue outside but quite near the stage on the inside.

It shouldn't be too big of a deal to get there early, and I'm the type of person who doesn't mind waiting a long time in a lineup anyway. The only reason it'd be kind of a drag for me is that I'll be making Cologne into a city trip and going there with my husband and parents, and they'll have to be without me for several hours, then. But such is life! I'll be sure to get there as early as I can. It's good to know about the queue size not being indicative of how close you'll get to the stage though. Makes sense that people really cram in there once they get inside. Thanks!

Maybe we came across each other there, Lol

But yeah, it was busy, and fair point if you are talking about certain time where it can be clogged. To be fair, I have crutches, so I was ushered infront of many people and watched them at close proximity. Lol, they were quite energetic up close, too bad they only played 2 songs of MUSIC which was their last good album.

story time! I went to Japan! to see my favorite singer, Kato Miliyah!!

I love her!

anyways, I was in Shibuya and they still have a Tower Records there. First thing I noticed is Tamaki ROY came out with a new album!!!

any fans of Tamaki ROY?!?! he's awesome!! check his new song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGpseYkPza8

anyways also at Tower was an in-store performance by some z-rate idol groups.

first off was a 3 member group, no idea who they were,

2nd was a 14 member! I believe they are called Shibuya Dominion based on the shirts their fans were wearing.

the music was terrible, but watching the fans really get into it, knowing all the chants and the calls & responses was slightly almost entertaining.

what made it not was that they all smelled real bad. Seriously. and none of them were female.

it's bad enough that you guys are some hella weird old doods who like this horrible music, but does that mean u cant take a shower?!?!?!

I couldnt get good pics coz I wasnt even allowed to take em, and once the old man Tower employee saw me he kept mad doggin me like "I got my eyes on you gaijin!!!"

anywayz, moral is don't listen to Shibuya Dominion.

listen to Tamaki ROY and Kato Miliyah becoz they are both amazing artists!

Tower Records was the shit. Miss that store :(

They actually always stocked Japanese imports of some of my favorite bands. Gladly payed the $30 price tags to those bonus tracks, lol

Lol, Jekki. Welcome to idol world in Japan and that is why I despise the whole thing. manufactured girls that have talent nor passion, primed just to attract certain audiance that have nothing better to focus their life on.

My friend who keep traveling to Japan all the time buys my stuff from there. The free stuff you get when you buy music is awesome. Androps, One and Zero had so many bonus stuff liek stickers, guitar notes, booklets and other stuff. Granted, CDs are bloody expensive (and painfully so :( ) but those stuff are amazing to have.

Lol, I honestly didn't know how to write their name so I just Copied and pasted Jekki's way of spelling their name.

Anyhow, now that I have written my top albums of 2012

no way! I was hanging out with the japanese exchange students because they were really impressed that I came all the way from California to see the show,

but not as impressive as the old man who was with them, who came all the way from Japan because he loved MAX and has been to all their shows!!

another worker saw him and was really impressed to, so she let us in front row as well! it was awesome!!

and SPEED!! Rise is another classic record!

my favorite part about it is how they never really sing on it ever, it's just them shouting the whole time!

Hiro has some great solo records (Brilliant is fantastic), although I really like Takako Uehara's stuff as well.

Her songs are actually real good despite the fact that she cant sing well at all lol. She was however easily the most attractive of them all which definitely helps a lot.

Nana sang to me when she saw me doing the Ride On Time move! The next day during the autograph line, she told me seeing me sing along made her really happy *_* *_* *_* <3 <3 <3

Pfft, they don't shout that much. It's really only a couple of the dance tracks.

Hiro will forever be my fave though. I went to her Sakuracon live as well (one of MAX even mentioned watching the video of it during rehearsal :lol)

Unfortunately they've fizzled out even though they regrouped. They've been together longer this second time around than the first time, but they've only released one new original album :(

Well, i am sort of embarrassed (or rather shy) about it since I am not a good writer, so please don't laugh at at :/ There aren't as many Japanese bands as I thought I have wrote initially, so maybe in the next few entries will be about couple of of them.

Its http://faridmon.blogspot.co.uk/

and I am glad you enjoyed that album. That album surprised the hell out of me and it might be my favorite album in a long time.

Finally got around watching the Arafes live DVD by Arashi. Managing to do 3 hours live with so much energy is quite impressive. The crowd was great, really an amazing live.

Straightener will be releasing their 1st best-of ever in a few weeks. I'm tempted to buy it since it comes with a live at the Budokan.

Awesome, their live performances never fail to please me, such an fantastic band.

And Nothing's Carved In Stone (NCIS) announced a few days ago that they'll release their new album in June. I can't wait. Silver Sun that came out in 2012 was my album of the year, they keep on improving since their debut and releasing an album/year doesn't hurt them at all. Definitely looking forward to it.
One of the coupling songs from their latest single is just so good, really blew me away when I heard it :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZyWS2CTbpY
And of course the main track is awesome
http://jpopsuki.tv/video/Nothing%26...t-of-Control/4fe5056816bfa08013e530ab9f4483c6

So... I'd like the HIATUS and Straightener to release brand new material this year in order to have albums from my four favorite bands (the HIATUS, Straightener, NCIS and ONE OK ROCK). A man can hope!

The only Old ones I listen to are Yellow Magic Orchestra, Luminous Orange and See-Saw
I wish I knew more about Post--Punk and New-wave of Japan in the 80s.

No, there's a lot of great music being made there that isn't J-pop. I actually exaggerated that statement a bit, since some artists (like Sakamoto) do a wide variety of genres.

I know that Jpop is the mainstream thing that sells, but there is plenty of great music in the indie scene in Japan at the moment that no one heard of.

Looking back at my Last fm library, I have Kururi, Happy End, 10-Feet, Eastern Youth and Supercar there when it comes to older msuic.

My first venture out of the Gaming section of GAF and found this thread.

This is familiar enough ground :D

I follow a lot of idol groups since they're putting out some crazy stuff these days but my current favorites musically at this point would have to be Momoiro Clover Z, Ebichu, Fairies, and Brand New Idol Society.

As for regular pop I can't say I follow that many acts, but I've been enjoying Utada Hikaru's latest song for Eva 3.0, Perfume and KyaryPamyuPamyu ever since I went to her LA concert a couple weeks ago. Shiina Ringo is probably my favorite.

For J-Rock, a lot of them disbanded or lost members. The Blue Hearts, Southern All Stars, X Japan, Polysics, GO!GO!7188, Shakalabbits, Scandal, Stereopony, Maximum the Hormone, and probably a few more I'm forgetting.

Capsule and Boom Boom Satellites cover Japanese electronica.

I have to admit I'm pretty much a casual when it comes to Jpop, just coming across artists by chance, so I'll take your recommendation and others I see in this thread, thanks!

Ieiri Leo is amazing. Was only 17 when she debut last year. Her background story to fame is a bit inspiring too. I digress. Some songs:

Uroko- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0xSlwow9rQ

Aimer
All the songs in the album RE:IM are worth listening to. I can't find any previews on youtube.

Kimura Kaela
Ring a ding dong...actually, her whole 8EIGHT8 album is really good. Can't find any previews as well.

The rest, Kurita posted a good list. I highly recommend Miwa and Yui from that list.

Etsuko Yakushimaru - http://youtu.be/W8cfpcgKYTo
Nami Tamaki - http://youtu.be/9RYsrU6TKVc
Salyu - http://youtu.be/DChoNWcIbLw
Kylee - http://youtu.be/rJxD1FjFgpc

New idol group Juice=Juice's debut single is prette catchy.

Yes! I love this song. Pretty good debut.

Finally gave a few spins to the new Sigure, and I think its their 2nd best album behind Just a Moment. But this band in general is just consistently GOOD. A lot of amazing moments on this new album though.

The 2nd to last song, Kimi to Oku, is just flat out incredible.

Never heard of her (I am really bad when it comes to Solo projects) Could give her a listen.

She also sing for Soutaisei Riron if you heard of them. Kensuke Nishiura (support drummer for Mass of the Fermenting Dregs and Luminous Orange for a while) also plays for them.

Can anyone recommend me music similar to Midori? Especially their heavier and wilder tracks like メカ. I'm not familiar with a lot of Japanese rock... just Boris, Mass of the Fermenting Drugs and a few other big ones.

385 Is pretty cool and the closest successor to Midori i have found. They released an EP in 2010 and is releasing their first full album in like two weeks.
Mariko Goto (vocalist of Midori) released a really good solo album last year, but it is a lot lighter and more pop-ish.

Speaking of Etsuko Yakushimaru, does anyone here care about her and listened to her latest album?

I love Soutaisei Riron, but haven't checked out her solo stuff. Is it good?
