Japanese Music (Pop, rock and all 'dat) |OT|

Only Johnny ever cares about NYC and that's because Jin wanted to bang girls on each coast and they could squeeze some money out of a stage show. Utada too, but she was born here.

Doubtful. Unless it's Hawaii. The test hamster didn't work out as intended, seats were open to the point of giving away tickets. Arashi could hold a better crowd, but not by too much sadly, as much as I'd love to see HSJ or Yamapi in the states. I would like to see them go the way of the SM "family" shows and round everyone up into an arena for a six hour circus.

hello, mononofu here, just checkin' in. (momoiro clover z fan), i was heavy into x48, but then i took a sabbatical, momoclo is the only 'idol' type stuff i follow these days, more or less.

I also am a (still) a big fan of Number Girl (and other Mukai Shutoku projects), if anyone's into that. I'm old, so all the bands during that era are my thing (bloodthirsty butchers, eastern youth, supercar, etc)

You'll get along we'll here. I'm a big fan of everything you mentioned lol.

Speaking of eastern youths, I heard that they used to be a "right wing oi!" band. Has anyone else heard anything like this?

this is true from what I heared as well, they were skin heads, but readily dropped this ideal when they started to take off (lol youth)..

Oh man that is so funny to me. Them being nationalist sympathizers before becoming a hardcore band is down right hilarious.

I'm a big fan of the band Puffyshoes and last week they dropped a new PV. I'm so excited since their last album came out 3 years ago.
Heatwave

If anyone wants to get a little more acquainted with their material then here's a few select songs

Just listened to the new Perfume tracks. Magic of Love is what we've come to expect from Nakata at this point, but it's still a nice listen as per usual. Really stoked on Handy Man though; it's great to hear him experimenting with different live instruments/sampling.

there are quite a few in japan, really small/obscure bands though, from the top of my head, Softball had the same leanings as well, but they didn't last long (one of them is now in Akiakane i think?)

Leo Ieiri released her new single! Sooo goood. Really in love with every song she makes and will continue to support her! Would really love to see her live one day.

AKB48's new single sold 1.4m on its first day. That puts them with 12 consecutive million sellers, which is only three behind B'z for the record in Japan.

Damn...
Looking forward to Arashi's new single sales, I wonder if they'll break their previous single's record which sold 750.000 units in one week...

Oh shit, that will be the first combo breaker since 2009.

The simple and pretty Perfume singles have underperformed somewhat, should teach Nakata that the public wants another banger.

Hey maybe it'll be #2 in the weekly ranking!

I really dig the single btw, more than Mirai no Museum where I only liked the b-side.

^oh wow, what. those samples. and did they just insert a slight harlem shake in there hahhaa.
those hoodies are dope though.

and oh, i voted at this years akb sousenkyou, for my girl. twice. im poor right now haha. this shit doesnt help anyway.

Perfume new single time!

Magic of Love isn't bad. First impressions is that is it kinda average, like same old same old. It'll probably grow on me as I give it more listens.

I do like the B-side, Handy Man, though. Just the kind of Perfume music I like.

Just listened to Arashi's new single, Endless Game.
Pretty good single, I think I still prefer Calling x Breathless released earlier this year but I guess this one will grow on me.

Endless Game is so good, definitely one of my favorite songs by the band. The pre-chorus and the chorus are amazing.
Intergalactic is really electro-ish, with some autotune etc.. I like it.
Magic Hour sounds like a summer song.
モノクロ is a good suprise, the music is quite original with the guitar, the violins...

Good stuff.

Need help again! I'm looking to buy the new Akai Ko-en release. I can only find it on two websites so far (hmv japan and rakuten's japanese page). I'm trying to get it shipped to Canada. Rakuten cancelled my order and HMV japan isn't letting me order.

The catalog no. is TOCT-45074

Can anyone offer me some advice on how to properly order this? :(

does amazon japan ship to NA?

Yep.

Their shipping is expensive though, and while I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else, I got hit with import fees once.

I would probably just email CD Japan and find out if they plan on listing it.

Pre-face: I like every genre of music. I have about 200 gigs of music. I am an unbridled music LOVER.

I'm posting this for myself for future reference. I'm trying to find good j-music while I study Japanese.

My favorite is probably Utada Hikaru or Maya Sakamoto due to nostalgia.

Maya Sakamoto - Yubiwa

Alan - Sakura Modern

Pizzicato Five - Sweet Soul Revue

Utada Hikaru - Sakura Drops <-- this song has better production than most modern western pop, one of my favorites from High School

Dreams Come True - その先へ

Angela Aki - Creep (Japanese Cover)

Yoko Kanno <-- I've never been exposed to her own non-film music.

Capsule - Flashback

Bump of Chicken - Sailing Day

People in the Box - 旧市街

Sour - 日々の音色

Supercar - Lucky

DJ Crush and Toshinori Konda - Mu-Chu

Cornelius - Drop

Ram Rider - Sweet Dance

Quruli - World's End Supernova

Nagisa Cosmetic - <3 Strawberry Short-Cut

トクマルシューゴ - Rum Hee

8otto - Generation 888 <-- they remind me of Sonic Youth

Polysics - Black Out Fall Out

Boris - Ganbou-Ki <-- sweet fuck

Honestly, aside from electronic (I REALLY like Capsule btw) my favorite music to listen to is jazz, rnb, funk. Stuff in that area. I love Angela Aki and Yoriko due to their minimalism which focuses on the voice. Think Adele and you get the picture. Want more of that female vocals over minimal instrumentation.

Also, ANYTHING that sounds like the Jet Set Radio and JSRF soundtrack.

My main band I need to recommend to people is Akai Kouen

I also think you might like Kinoko Teikoku from you mentioning bands like Boris http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaY5GGPy_C8

Kiiiiiii are super fun as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maz7G7zpDJA
