Jason Schreier hints at Sony Santa Monica's next game NOT being a new IP and progressing well

Insanemaelstrom Insanemaelstrom Worth adding to the OP.
Jason Schreier elaborates on what it's supposed to be, while also corroborating what a SMS insider by the name of Ashhong said, who confirmed that it's NOT a licensed IP.

Here's what I'm guessing -

Barlog was brought back to SSM with the following deal : You reboot God of War for us, and essentially give us a new universe and slew of characters to spin-off into sequels and other games...and we give you full reign on a AAA game of your choosing. I'm guessing it's a radically new take on an existing franchise (NOT god of war) and it's slated for next year.

Sort of like the "one for us, one for you" deal that a lot of Hollywood directors get.

I am down with anything written by Cory. The guy that wrote Ragnarok, can you please fuck off, and permanently? Thank you.
The biggest problem with GOW Ragnarok is the Norse GOW series really needed 3 games to tell its story. It's pretty clear that everything felt rushed in Ragnarok because its was supposed to be a trilogy. Barlog and SSM obviously didnt want to be stuck making solely GOW games for another 15 years, so they finished the GOW Norse mythology in 2 games

I am just glad the new game is reportedly coming along well. Few studios are as competent as SSM. Easily a top 5 studio in the industry

I don't agree. I felt like even the second game became pretty darn repetitive being in the same environment, fighting mostly the same mobs.

My issues with Ragnarok are so big that i simply don't trust the guy who wrote it. The way the pussified Kratos is unexcusable. The introducing of those worthless secondary characters with the vibe of the avengers is completely horseshit. This is GoW, everything is supposed to be centered and heavily focused on Kratos. Odin fight, the one they hyped up for two games straight, was pathetic. So many playable sections with Atreus was the worst. The story was so damn poorly written that a random guy on the streets would've done a better job. As i said after beating the game, the way i would've liked Ragnarok to finish is like this- You fight Odin, he is simply too strong, he kills Kratos, but lets Atreus live. Atreus find Tyr, and since Tyr has visited a bunch of different lands, he lets Atreus know that there's a land of ressurection (Egypt). So that is where they go for the next game. You begin the next title as Tyr with Kratos head on his back, etc. Perfect setup for the Egyptian setting and i would've liked to see Kratos lose for once, it would only add more depth to his character in my opinion.
