Jeff Bezos is gonna shoot himself into space in ~ 50 minutes

Even though there was a worldwide supported petition for him to stay in space and not be allowed to return to Earth, I think the plan still is for him and the rest of the crew to "only" go to the edge of space and return after that in a flight that lasts about 11 minutes.

So grab your popcorn and enjoy the second US-based vanity project carnival ride in a week's time!

I'm interested in it, because I like the idea of commercial spaceflight pushing the industry forward. However, these space tourist things are kinda lame right now. But they do open the door to space travel being an every man type of thing somewhere down the road. Baby steps, I guess.

Space Bezos is going to open up interstellar Amazon for all the martians out there.

Has Blue Origin even achieved orbit yet?
No. It's honestly a bit confusing. Their rate of development is sluggish. It's what I'd have expected from NASA, which is loaded down with bureaucracy. SpaceX, by comparison, is generations ahead of them. Even small companies like Rocket Labs have gotten to orbit already.

I feel i should be more excited about this..... not sure.

Its private space flight which is a pretty cool achievement i guess.

They say it’s safe but it still seems risky to me considering we’ve never heard of successful flights from BO.

I hope they pull this off and then do actual orbit soon.

So, who ascribes to the theory that he is staying on earth and has filmed an effects reel simulating him in space....just in case?

Or if the rocket does blow up, will there be tabloidesque Bezos sightings for the next 30 years?

Kinda sad that these wealthy men can't figure out anything better to do than to launch themselves into space for a short moment. I wonder if these guys get to enjoy anything anymore.

This is so dumb. Jeff Bezos has no good reason to risk his life over this.

Its not like he going to the moon or even into orbit. He is taking a very dangerous joy ride.

Blue Origin is his passion [vanity] project for YEARS. He has been investing in the concept for quite a while and had a fascination with space for many years.

So yeah, he's doing it because he REALLY wants to.

It is out of pure vanity. There is so much more he could do and accomplish by staying on earth.

Even if the chance of him dying today is 1/10,000 it is too high.

Oh God please. That would absolutely brilliant. Genuinely busting up laughing at the idea.

Fuck it if I was him I'd fake it and spend my life enjoying the infamy. Let the others blow up of course to ad creedance to the event.

He also has a billionaires kid with him. These are people that just want to go to space.

Giant space dick

reminds me of that episode of Silicon Valley where Gavin’s signature on the router looks like a penis

I expected the landing to be softer than that. At least to look softer. That said, that is pretty soft for a landing on land. They hit water harder than that with Dragon. Pretty cool. Good for Bezos to see his dream fulfilled.

Now, let's get Starship on its suborbital hop. That's the real action for me.

They banned me for wrongthink. Do you feel the same when it comes to people with a different opinion from yours?
Make a different thread or go to Reddit.

Don’t need people shitting up every single thread about Space with “billionaire bad”. It’s the same tune played every time. We get it.... you guys don’t understand economics or society and think throwing money at a problem fixes it.

On-topic: congrats to Bezos. He’s been shooting for this for so damn long. Hopefully with this publicity they can recruit some great engineers that will help them figure out their issues with orbital flight.

Has it occurred to you that while it’s not ideal for space exploration to be headed by private billionaires going forward, it’s also better than no space exploration whatsoever?

Further, has it occurred to you that Bezos employs many, many scientists and engineers who are getting to expand their skills and knowledge about space flight far more than they would have otherwise?

Has it occurred to you for one single fucking second that isn’t just a rich asshole getting his rocks off, but that it will lead to future space exploration on a larger and faster scale?

But yeah… billionaires bad, right? It’s just Jeff and his mates fucking about with their money 🙄
