Jeff Bezos is gonna shoot himself into space in ~ 50 minutes

Why?

This is suborbital flight, the same that Branson did. We already did this 50 years ago.

Is still does not see how this is in any way remarkable. What Musk is doing with Starship is way more interesting and really the future.
We now have 3 companies putting people into orbit.

One is working on a completely reusable rocket.
One just put a fully civilian crew into orbit.
One uhhh... makes a plane that goes into orbit?

It's amazing shit man. This is how it all starts. Slow at first and then breakneck speed. It will get better, cheaper, faster and next thing you know, we got peeps living on the moon and mars.

I always thought all the prep work and the launch itself seemed like the worst parts of space ttravel. Not that I'd know.

But I'd want to spend some nights looking down on earth, tripping balls on existence, and perhaps getting a new perspective, rather than all the training it probably took to be shook around in a flying can.

End of the day, it's still really cool, but I wouldn't want to do it.

These guys were in a capsule that had no control inputs or anything, right? It was just a ballistic arc. Other than maybe how to activate a radio if you land off course I'm not sure you need to know ANYTHING for a flight like this.

No. It's honestly a bit confusing. Their rate of development is sluggish. It's what I'd have expected from NASA, which is loaded down with bureaucracy. SpaceX, by comparison, is generations ahead of them. Even small companies like Rocket Labs have gotten to orbit already.
NASA isn't sluggish because of bureaucracy, it's sluggish because it is loaded down with scientists. If you are just focused on getting shit into space, then you can obviously progress much faster. The Russians were much better than the US at getting shit into space, but NASA was developing tons of shit that had other uses and creating a demand that helped make things like microchips mainstream.
It's like that joke about NASA spending millions creating a special zero g space pen while the Russians used a pencil.
Of course NASA was also loaded with Nazis.

Hey, werent there this big reveal coming up around the 18th according to reddit, in regards to aliens?

Would love it if Bezos turns out to be a Intergalactic fugitive with a death sentence on his head, now he's trying to escape and gets nuked out of orbit by the Galactic Policia.

Must be such an amazing feeling, that's always been a dream of mine to go into space just once. Just leaving planet earth. I'll never undervalue how crazy that is.

It’s cool but I get why the billionaire dick stroking is a turnoff.

State funded space travel was at a standstill for decades though and the US had to pay Russia for rides. Now there’s a number of companies going at it.
