Jensen Huang on 5090 price: "Our enthusiasts won’t settle for sth slightly better or save $100 by choosing sth a bit worse. They just want the best."

I could see the 5070 Super having 18 GB.
Yeah, with 3GB chips 18GB might be doable and 24GB for 5080 Super. But you have to wait a year basically and then 6000 series will be out a year after that. This is the trade off essentially.

IMO, a good compromise would be going for a 5070Ti which shouldn’t be that far off 5080 Super.

And if in 2 years it’s not quite enough you can then get a 6000 series card or AMD’s UDNA cards.

Yeah.

You mean one should bragbrag about something more expensive.

Say, a car. Or a villa. Heck, or a 50+ feet yacht. Hell yes!

But, we are on a gaming forum.
In a thread about GPUs.
Making that rather awkward.

However, some bragbrags are unstoppable.
Happened in my WoW guild.
A guy casually asked if anyone would want to buy his high 6 digit $ used car.

Oh well.
We were impressed that such cars existed. Or at least I was.

Yeah. The poor cheapcheaps are jealous.
I dunno maybe being an older guy that grew up in a different generation I don't see anyone on here bragging and even if they do big freaking deal, good for them they can get things they want and happy for them they have places they can share their happiness

I think what OverHeat OverHeat has as a home gym is pretty sweet and not gonna lie kind of jealous but do I think he is bragging?

Ok maybe a little but who fucking cares?

Yep this is a tricky situation.. I wanna download some VRAM for my 4070Ti so badly.. card is great otherwise.
Gonna have to hold on for now and be strong when refresh drops as there is no point going for 16 gigs when low VRAM was a main issue for years now.

I'm more concerned about y'all stalking this person and tracking down his setup to make comments about it in a completely unrelated thread tbh.
We're out here talking about videocards and y'all are criticizing how a grown man spends his money and what his house looks like.

Sometimes it feels like threads about prices bring out the worst in folks here.
Didn't you know? He is a celebrity among gaf kids that haven't moved out of their parent's basements yet.

Anybody who buys the 5090 is a fool. It's the worst flagship card Nvidia has released in a long time.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Or they are an enthusiast and that’s their hobby. A buddy of mine is into bicycling and spends thousands of $ a year on equipment, parts and so on.

He has bikes (not electric) that cost over $10K. Would I spend my money that way? No, but it’s his thing and he is perfectly well entitled to spend his cash.

Another friend of mine is into music, specifically guitars. I don’t want to go into his setup and let’s just say that building a $10K PC a year would be less vs what he spends.

Heck, another friend of mine is a pilot and his hobby is also flying his own plane. He spends a ton of cash on hangar rental, upkeep and so on.

I could go on. My friends are not rich, but they are successful professionals and can afford to spend money on their hobbies. So It’s silly to do name calling that someone wants to spend $2-2.5K on a GPU when it’s really not that bad compared to other hobbies.

Better stop bragging on your friends, some get hurt feelings really easy

Yeah, I have a 3080Ti and while going to say a 5080 or 5070Ti would be a sizable upgrade I kind of don’t want that VRAM limitation.

I might just go for a 5090 after all if I can get the FE card.

Bragging is what a guy I know does since his best friend from school owns multiple airplanes, and he is still really good friend of his. Let’s just say I am a bit envious of some of their Instagram pics a bit! 😅

I don’t really have rich friends. My buddies are just professionals with a good job in a variety of industries.

Which really was the point I was trying to make, that spending a few $K on a hobby is perfectly normal even amongst fairly regular folks.

Jensen-Huang-Talks-RTX-5090-Price-at-CES-2025-Interview.webp

Reporter: I have a question regarding gamers and consumers. We noticed a significant gap between the RTX 5090 and 5080. The number of CUDA cores in the 5090 is more than twice that of the 5080, and the price has doubled as well. Why did you create such a large difference between the flagship and the near-flagship models?

Jensen Huang: The reason is simple. Once someone wants the best product, they will always choose the best. You know, the market isn’t so segmented. And our enthusiasts, if they want the best, they won’t settle for something slightly better or save $100 by choosing something a bit worse. They just want the best.

Of course, $2,000 is not a small amount, and it’s certainly a high value. But keep in mind that this technology is being used in your home theater-level PC setup. And that PC—where you’ve probably already invested around $10,000 in your monitor and sound system—will definitely need the best GPU. So many of our customers are simply after the absolute best.

He's dead on. This is why the 6900XT and the 7900XTX struggled. Why buy an expensive product you have to do a whole bunch of compromises for when you can buy the best with 0 compromise.
