LOL. That's fucked up to say. It's like twisting the poisonous, flaking obsidian knife.
Estimates have it around the 10 million unit sold mark on Steam alone - which was a late port. It’s been in the Best of Steam charts every year since release.
They’ve been making money from this game from day one.
Sea of Thieves - Celebrate Five Million Sea of Thieves Sales on Steam
Another gift up for grabs to mark more PC-playing pirates taking to the seas!www.seaofthieves.com
Devs already celebrated very impressive sales milestones, years ago.
ah! so, way back in b.e. (before engagement)...Sea of Thieves hit #2 on NPD on release and landed at a time when GamePass didn’t have mass adoption...
Yeah, they are making changes to how their business has been run, but they've already had relative success with pushing software and hardware without the software being exclusive to their hardware. That was my point. Nothing is guaranteed, so we don't know if it will pay off in the long run, but MS has bought a big publisher and a bunch of studios, so they'd have to screw up pretty badly from this point to fail with their new strategy. The hardware wont sell, if MS doesnt push it hard. MS has decreased the budget for Xbox marketing department, and closed bethesda branches in europe. That is not someone that is confident on their product hardware.
Windows is successful due to 3rd party applications. They dont need to do that much work in that department.
Pretty cool. PS owners like pirates and monkeys. Just not fat lesbians.
Those changes are bad for hardware sales. You cant limit growth, as you risk of allowing your competitor to gain more grounds. MS needed to expand to europe, now they are out of that market. They are currently losing ground in UK and USA.Yeah, they are making changes to how their business has been run, but they've already had relative success with pushing software and hardware without the software being exclusive to their hardware. If hardware sales was their only goal...then sure, but they are trying to move away from that. Just to be clear, I am not saying they have successfully done that; that remains to be seen. Those changes are bad for hardware sales. Yeah, that over 40% jump in Xbox console sales in latest Circana numbers clearly show that. Highest growth among consoles YoY in July (summer month)The hardware wont sell, if MS doesnt push it hard. $12 million to sony when they take their 30% cut.
1 m more suckers that might buy MTXI take this as a good thing? 1 million doesn't sound to bad but no idea what is considered a success in todays market.
It will probably be on the switch 2.Sounds about right, it would have sold more on the Nintendo Switch
Depends if it helps killing the platform or not.1mil copies sold for a 8 year old game.....not bad at all.
That's correct. The last update we received from Stellar Blade was it sold a million, right? Wonder which will do better in the end.
When a situation like this comes around that apparently benefits everyone, it can get confusing for some of us old console warriors. Moreover, the game has maintained a mtx store, serving tens of millions of players over the years. If people want to embarrass themselves by saying the game hasn't made tons of money from gamepass and PC, then by all means go for it.
Yup. Successful on Xbox, pc and now PS5. Who knows the level of engagement this title has brought the world. More than simply 1 million. That's correct.
Which is interesting, because Stellar Blade is a smaller niche PS title, whereas Sea of Thieves supposedly is one of the most successfull and best Xbox games.
I wouldn't call it successfull on PS5 (goes for both games btw), then again, it's probably within expectations of MS.Yup. Successful on Xbox, pc and now PS5. Who knows the level of engagement this title has brought the world. More than simply 1 million.
Sea of Thieves has reportedly sold over 10 million copies on PC and I assume that a large number of game pass subscribers have also played the game. SoT is by most standards a big succes. That's correct.

It's a far cry from the monster hit you claimed it is.This will hit 4 million easy by the end of the gen.
Free cash. Probably hat about 10 people working on porting it.
The franchise as a whole, yes. Which has 40M players as of april 2024.Sea of Thieves has reportedly sold over 10 million copies on PC and I assume that a large number of game pass subscribers have also played the game. SoT is by most standards a big succes.

Doesn't matter, FF7 is a 3rd party game. What's final fantasy 7 sold on ps5? Double that. Triple that?
It's an excellent performance for a 6 year old late port and mostly sold at full price. It will have covered its porting costs ten fold and counting.
Doesn't matter, FF7 is a 3rd party game.
Not sure why you even bring FF into the discussion?
Nobody claimed Concord is going to be a monster hit though.Ok, let's compare it to concord then? Let's see how sales of that compare in 6 months.
Co op gaas game from each first party.
Sea Of Thieves is £39.99 on PlayStation, it's not a full priced title, it's very much a budget titleWhat's final fantasy 7 sold on ps5? Double that. Triple that?

Stellar Blade is also a monster hit thenIt's a far cry from the monster hit you claimed it is.
Probably more copies than its sold on Xbox
They're fucked then. Now you know why MS is blatantly accelerating their multi platform strategy. Satya actually loved making actual gaming money for the first time in almost a decade.
Sea Of Thieves is £39.99 on PlayStation, it's not a full priced title, it's very much a budget title
And clowns in spandex costumes.Pretty cool. PS owners like pirates and monkeys.
Your point makes zero sense. No one has claimed Concord will be successful much less a "monster hit".Isn't concord the same price? and a new game so it should benefit from that. Let's compare sales in 6 months?
Obviously. But they also pay for the development of the game and all its associated costs which is also true for EA, Take2, Ubisoft, etc. If a game bombs all the damage will be felt by the studio and the publisher, while the platform holder loses nothing, except the money they hoped to get by virtually (they still support an ecosystem, but these costs scaled down to one game are miniscule) doing nothing. If that were the case, then MS made ~23M at the same time....
"MONSTER HITTTTT"
- DenchDeckard
Edit:
About expected. Some mild interest, most likely from former Xbox fans.
Stellar Blade is also a monster hit then

Define 'solid interest'.It’s had solid interest on every platform it’s ever been on, so it’s puzzling you’re insinuating PS owners are the exception.
Such an accomplishment...…it’s outsold Stellar Blade in the U.S.
Define 'successfull'?1 million units in a few months for a 6 year old port…isn’t ‘successful’?
Late ports don’t always sell this quick, and this well. Horizon Forbidden West for example was released on PC and has about a third of these sales.
