Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold over 785K copies on Steam and over 350K copies on PlayStation consoles

Strange numbers but saying steam is the largest platform is like saying water is wet at this point.

Everyone on every platform needs to support this game. I just bought the game and deluxe upgrade on the xbox store. 10 hours in and I know this game is a classic.

Since when did comparing Steam and PlayStation become a thing? Have I just ignored that comparison in the past? Either way, good for Sandfall Interactive. I hope they are able to continue their success and create more interesting single player games for both PC and consoles.
It's just our resident pcmr warrior arthands doing his regular trolling. It's the only thing he's got going in his empty life.

Strange to see PlayStation as the less popular platform. You'd think that Final Fantasy and Persona fans would be more interested, especially with the very attractive price point.

Well I got my copy to support the studio even though I'm currently playing in Game Pass. :)

if anything I think it's probably carried by Europe looking at those daily spikes on that time of the day, though I may be wrong on that.
You are. Exp33 is peaking at the same time as MH Wilds, Black Myth Wukong, Metaphor, FF7 Rebirth etc.

At 14:00 UTC Europe is still at work or only just getting home.

Yeah, did wrong there now that I realize. Poland, for example, would be at 16:00 at that time.
Still, don't see much correlation with Japan specifically, and it's probably a case of Asia as a whole.

Great to see this game selling well

Where is he getting these numbers from because there are other reports that samly a different spread. Either way, the game deserves the accolades it is getting.

PS sales of this game is roughly 40% of the PC version, impressive numbers considering that it's available
for free on gamepass PC, PS players dont buy games? it seems that way

Playstation-only owners are such killjoys, instead of being happy for the game's success, they can only exhibit enthusiasm if it's more successful on "their" platform 🙄

Very happy to see the game being so successful on Windows-user majority platform Steam :messenger_sunglasses:

At Friday, May 3rd at 0:00 AM in Japan, you say...? Golden Week started 3 days prior, I don't see how this spike correlates to Japan specifically in any way.
Maybe I'm doing my math wrong. I'm trying to figure out where that big spike corresponds to. 9AM central time on a Thursday.

For comparison, Monster Hunter peaks at that same time every day (and saw a big spike on Wednesday for some reason). Whereas Baldur's Gate 3 peaks around 3 PM every day.

Time to ban gamesindustry.biz as a source on GAF, they are obviously biased against PlayStation. How dare they publish such vile slander.

Whatever grandpa!

I look at the Steam sales and am extremely confused why these people don't just play it on Gamepass. Nearly 800k would rather pay 50 bucks for a game instead of playing it for 12. Many must just be fucking hoarders.
Are you fucking dumb? Do you want games to continue being made or not? Cause if you want the games industry to halt then continue renting games. What a dumb fucking statement to make.

Once you add China and Japan to the mix (on a title with no Switch 1 version), Steam obviously comes out on top.

Discrepancy solved.

Baldur's Gate peaks at the standard time for a Western game (~19:00 UTC), which is a combination of evening prime time in Europe plus some American afternoon use. By US prime time Europe is asleep - you sometimes see a second peak at that time (~01:00 UTC) but it rarely goes higher.

14:00 UTC is prime time in Asia, plus some European afternoon use.

Some start up analytics company. They have like 5 employees and somehow know PS sales to the decimal lol.

They probably use that trophy site to guess sales.

I'm surprised gamesindustry.biz is citing them. Their website looks like it was thrown together in 15 mins with squarespace, and these guys fuckin love Monopoly Go. But maybe gi.biz knows something we don't.

I'm not a PlayStation-only owner and am still skeptical of the data.

Happy to see it selling, but makes me think if it would have sold 2 million with a less pretentious title. :goog_unsure:

I don't care.
But they don't know anything.
The only thing we know is 1million tweet.
Every other thing is taking steamdb estimates. There are no other numbers. Nobodyh knows consoles physical and digital numbers.

They just took some random number.
This is steamdb estimations which at least make some sense.

Their 785K on Steam isn't that far off from the average of those 3 estimations.

Owned by the Norwegian Klein Group. Never heard of them, but they also own Cherry AB. One of the first companies in Sweden to import arcade machines in the 70's.

It's amazing it's doing that well on PC, hopefully this means they'll address some of the PC issues.. like to do certain things. I have to spam the crap out of my w key to get it to respond

The high concurrent players on PC for a single player rpg point to it being much larger sales than some want to believe or are trying down play.

Is this a trusted source at all though. Who are they?

The same source as this thread. you were in that thread too

Great to see it selling on ps5. Hopefully it continues to find a good audience. I enjoyed it alot.

Didn't another "analytics" company have completely different numbers the other day?

I don't know which one is right but most of the these companies always come across as:

We know the game is successful and have had threads to talk about the overall sales.
This thread is specifically about the platform split, why wouldn't people talk about it?

gamepass is also on pc though

Yup. Most people I know playing this on PC are playing it via GamePass. Anecdotal, sure, but it's an easy install. I was going to play this on PC GamePass, but I told myself if it scored 85+ meta I'd buy on Steam to support the dev, so I did. No regrets as eventually this game will leave gamepass, but this game is so good I'll want to play again.

SIE: PC isn't a competing platform

Jim Ryan: PC is a competing platform

I'm gonna listen to Jim Ryan on this one.

Amazed to see it doing these numbers on PC

Playstation is doing rookie numbers by comparison, they need to pump those numbers up

Let me guess, zero copies sold on Xbox because it's on Gamepass lol

When you've raised prices on your platform everywhere but America, barely communicate/celebrate with your fanbase, and your platform lacks the means of enabling viral WOM & social media synergies...

...well, you get splits like these. Assuming the numbers are true, of course. And Xbox sales are probably a third of that of PlayStation's, at best.

Since when did comparing Steam and PlayStation become a thing? Have I just ignored that comparison in the past? Either way, good for Sandfall Interactive. I hope they are able to continue their success and create more interesting single player games for both PC and consoles.

It's been a thing for a while, and very much worth doing because even if SIE have said PC isn't a competing platform, you only need look at markets like Japan to see that it obviously is. The shared library (even for Day 1 games) is well over 90% between them, but PC having several advantages such as many more exclusives (especially if talking indies, certain F2P and older releases), free online, technically cheaper entry points (tho don't expect PS5 performance on a $300 laptop), access to Steam, more flexibility for productivity tasks, etc.

Pretending they aren't in competition for very similar gaming time & dollars these days is foolish, and similar to thinking PlayStation and Nintendo aren't competing for somewhat similar on the same metrics, even if Nintendo & PC aren't traditional "direct" competitors like Xbox consoles are. So when will SIE wake up and realize this?

Our estimates
Oh.

Because when i had gamepass on PC i bought three games there because since i had gamepass it was cheaper and those were games i wanted to keep playing after they leave the service. I ended up regretting buying them all for various reasons and had to rebuy them on steam.

Dead Cells, i lost my 500h save game when i factory reset my pc because it has no cloud saves. You can say i should have checked but you know where this wouldnt happen? Steam

Doom Eternal refused to be in english. Talked to microsoft support and the solution was to create some weird file and put some computer code in there and then open the game through that file on my desktop. No thanks

Crusader Kings, it is or at least was very hard on game pass to figure out what dlc you own and which one you dont if you had something like a season pass. And also enjoy watching everyone playing the game when the new dlc comes out because the dlc was only ever available hours later on gamepass, same is true for dead cells btw.

Who gives a fuck where it sold more? This game needs to sell few millions. It's that good and fully deserves it.

Maybe it will change some views that publishers have probably not

Game is selling well on both PS5 and PC. No need for console warring.

The main takeaway IMO is that people want mature storylines with good writing and without modern politics forced in.

Well if the data for that thread was from these guys and trusted then we gotta keep the same energy.

Yah, It sold very well everywhere.

Just that it sold better on PC than on PS consoles

I am honestly baffled. A small team of developers from France, some who are new to the industry, made a modern day "Japanese" RPG masterpiece that has finally dethroned Chrono Trigger for me after 30 years...

I wish the same passion was shared among Square Enix, but their heads are so far up their asses they are unable to do that.

SandFall should never even consider being bought out. They just made millions of new fans who'll buy their next project day one.
If the devs grew up playing these kind of games, just like many of us, why would it be surprising that they understand the format? The format/structure of 90's RPGs is particularly complex. People outside of JP are very much capable, I mean the armchair is rampant anyway.
