John Carpenter—director of The Thing, Escape from New York, and other entertaining genre flicks—is sick of seeing anti-Semites trying to adopt one of his movies as their own. They Live, for those of you who haven't seen it, is a science-fiction film from 1988 about a drifter, played by the late Rowdy Roddy Piper, who acquires some sunglasses—"Hoffman lenses"—that let him see the true reality lurking behind the surface world. Ads and other items are revealed to be subliminal commands ("OBEY," "CONSUME," "CONFORM," "STAY ASLEEP"), and many of the people around him are exposed as extraterrestrial impersonators. Turns out those aliens secretly run the world.

As often happens with stories like this (see also: The Matrix), They Live has been embraced by people with their own ideas about just who the hidden rulers of the planet are. It can't be fun to have a bunch of bigots reading their worldview into your work, and I can't object to the Nazi Punks Fuck Off spirit of Carpenter's tweet. But his problem was probably inevitable.

So They Live is an allegory for Jewish world domination? Never thought I'd hear a worse movie-theory than Ferris Bueller being a halucination of Cameron's, but there ya go.

The film's point could only be more obvious if the words "REAGANOMICS" flashed on the screen every 10 seconds. Goddamn, white supremacists are dumb.
 
Conspiracy fiends love to feel like they're engaged in a noble insurgency against a hidden, all-powerful enemy that controls the minds of the masses. So, of course they're going to intentionally misread something like They Live and apply it to their own fantasies about the world. Most of the anti-corporate slogans and rhetoric that I came across in the early 00s can be pretty easily applied toward (((globalists))) by these nuts.

I mean it's general consensus that Nazi idiots and mouth breathers in general really don't "get" films with depth deeper than a puddle.

It's not necessarily that, but they think society now caters to women and that all men are raised to be "pussies". The whole red pill thing is about how they alone are the people who see society for some kind of women-run dystopia that subjugates men, and they alone act like how men really should.

...which to them of course, is to be misogynist PUA asshats who can't get a girlfriend for reasons obvious to everyone but themselves.
