John Wick 3 Review Thread

I was out with my dad (who's in his 70s) yesterday and we kinda decided to go watch a movie the last minute. I suggested John Wick 3 since I'm going to watch it anyway. my dad had not watch any of the John Wick movies and he went in blind. he's a action movie kinda guy and even thou he knew basically nothing about John Wick other than some of the simple story points I told him, he really enjoyed it. he was chuckling and going "oh shit" through out the whole movie and it's hilarious. I ended up showing him the first John Wick when we got home and have dinner. had a blast.

and I do agree that the movie peaked a little too early with some of the fights in the first portion, but over all it's still a wonderful movie and definitely looking forward to the next one.

edit: also, I coulda swear in the trailer John was on a horse when he was being chase by a bunch of motorcycle ninjas on the bridge. but in the movie he's on a motorcycle too. did I remember it wrong or did they changed it or something?

I saw the movie on Friday. It was a great movie but I did find myself kinda getting bored in the later parts of the movie. I felt like I needed a break from the intense action. Watching this movie in theaters is the way to do it. Everyone reacting to all of the crazy moments is so gold!

Just saw it now and I kind of feel the same way. I actually think the initial fight in the weapons shop was also the best fight, which was a bit of a bummer. The plot was all over the shop and albeit I didn't mind the Halle Berry stuff, the whole going to the desert to see the grand poobah to seek atonement only to be sent back to Kill Winston of all people seemed kind of ridiculous. Plus I think they went the wrong way playing Zero (Mark Dacascos) for laughs when they should have played him like Cassian from JW2.

I actually liked the desert part. Yeah, it was ridiculous when you think about it, but I really enjoy the world building the last movies has been giving us, they've built up this whole World of Assassins universe and it just sucks you into the story even more. I wouldn't be surprised if we get John Wick spin-offs or even games/other media based on this assassin-verse.

Coincidentally the last big action franchise I can think of that had this kind of focus on world-building was The Matrix.

it was all right, the world building stuff has whiffed, they should constrain that stuff for smaller character moments and build off what's been established in the first two movies

like, i kinda wanna know what the history is between john and that cop from the first movie, john's relationship with the older black assassin in the high socks, the clean up crew, things like that

i don't care about the elevating market of assassins, it's just not that interesting

I saw this last night with a friend. We were both quite surprised at how "meh" we felt afterwards. It felt long and dragged out and it was only just over 2 hours. A lot of the humour fell flat for me, I didn't really care for Joan Wick , though the dogs are a cool idea.

Worth it entirely for the Adjudicator however. Fuck.

There's a good interview with the director and review of the film here at the Ringer: -

Stahelski kind of acknowledges that there may be a little too much action in the film, but that a deliberate choice on his part. Personally like you, I'd have preferred less world building because in large part it's not as compelling as they perhaps think. Still, they've already been given the green light for 4. Personally, I would hope they call it quits after that though.

Saw it last night. Absolutely loved it. Wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than the disappointing part 2.

I never knew how much I wanted to see dogs in more action scenes until I saw this movie.

Anyone into martial arts / action movies will love this. Loved the 2 Raid cameos as well.

I have watched this recently and it was cool. I have never seen a movie with such long fight scenes. After a while they become a pain to watch.

I thought it was dull tbh. Neutralize weapon, throw over shoulder, shoot in the head, rinse and repeat. The absolute lack of sense of danger while encountering hundreds of enemies wielding all kinds of weaponry is quite a feat. Still nothing tops the masterpiece that is The Raid 2.

Didn't like it much.

To much japping about "hey look i am the baddest of the baddest person" with endless building up. Won't watch again.

Finally watched this. It was fun.

Can’t wait for the fourth- (they can do one more. Not two more. Sorry, Keanu is getting too old)

Was the Asian dude (named Zero) supposed to be funny? He’s half badass and half odd-behaving funny guy. So bizarre

And that bald chic, the Adjudicator...
Her female voice didn’t match her female face-

The adjudicator should have been Carrie-Anne Moss aka Trinity. The old team should have got back together.

Keanu is over 400 years old, he still has another 200 in him.

Yeah I looked her up. Turns out she’s a non-binary person and only wants to be called “they” “their” or “them”

I can understand someone not identifying as a male or female... I can understand being non binary. But why does she (Asia) want to be called “they”?

I went to school. “They” or “Them” refers to more than one person!

When Asia dies, she counts as one soul. She gets one casket. Not multiple .

Stop using already defined words and changing their definition and vocabulary

It’s nice to want things.

As for the movie, I thought it was good until after the desert. Then it had me saying “what was the point of it all?”

RE Asia Kate Dillion, on wikipedia.

"Dillon was born in Ithaca, New York. They were assigned female at birth,[27][28] but identify as non-binary. Dillon explained that around 2015, they began removing gendered pronouns from their biography, and auditioning for the part of Mason helped them understand their gender identity."

2015, sounds about right. That's when they started pleading for attention isn't it? Non-binary's I mean. Lives about 30 years of her live been completely happy and content with who she is as a person, then randomly follows the crowd.

I thought when one person didn’t feel like a HE or SHE they were to be called ZHE?

What’s all this shit about calling one person “THEM”?

When I hear the sentence,

“ I see them over there“, I think there’s a group of people over there.

But now I’m supposed to know that, “I see them over there” means there’s one person over there as well?!?!

Doesn’t actor insinuate she’s a man?
Shouldn’t it be American Acthey?
Asia said she was born with female genitalia but wants to be known as an actor not an actress

I just do not want to call Asia “they” or “them”

I’ll call her “ZHE”

It’s not always about what makes her comfortable - it’s what makes us comfortable too

I’m not gonna change the definition of a pronoun like THEY to suddenly not mean multiple people

Who gives a shit and stop trying to politicise it. She or they I don’t care the CHARACTER in the movie was great as was the movie.

I swear the pantie bunching on this forum over women in movies is pathetic. Same in the Charlie’s angels /terminator “get Woke go broke” thread.

just watch the movie and like it. If you are worried about left or progressive politics in the movie then lemme tell you a little about almost everyone in Hollywood...

eh
I loved Wick 3 but I thought her acting was actually fairly bad and monotone. I'm sure that's what they wanted for her character but she was the least interesting part of the film.

First of all

Calm down

Second of all

NO ONE IS TRYING TO POLITICIZE THE MOVIE

IM TRYING TO UNDERSTAND ASIA’s DUMB USAGE OF THE PRONOUN “THEM” FOR HERSELF OUTSIDE OF THE MOVIE.

“Them” means multiple

The incorrect usage of the English language is all I’m questioning.

I was clearly and obviously not discussing the character or the movie,
