Johnny Depp being looked at for Riddler in Batman...

Depp could do it, definitely. David Tennant is still my personal choice, but I have more than enough faith built up from BB and TDK that I'm sure whoever is picked will be excellent.

I'm not sure that I like this idea. With Depp playing the villain I could see the next movie becoming more "light-hearted." Depp is incapable of playing a villian who would keep the movie and dark and disturbing as Dark Knight.

Oh fucking jesus, I can't wait to bump this in 2011.

If we're going to have a Dr Who play the Riddler...

He'd make a great Riddler.

Also, not a joke post but..

Data would make an awesome Riddler.

Depp is a really great actor...I love his diversity; from Donnie Brasco, to Fear and Loathing, he really can pull off a lot of roles. Take this clip for instance, from Once Upon a Time in Mexico:

and this...he and pacino were just awesome:

Dont forget " Blow "

huge underated movie... Made me shed a tear in the end. No movie does that!

Watch the first minute...cant find the full clip without stupid music but the first minute is ok!!!

Better, but still nowhere near what Ledger did with Joker.

I'll gladly eat crow with the rest of the nay-sayers if Depp surprises me. I like Depp, but feel that the role is wrong for him. I really do hope the next Batman turns out as good as Dark Knight, though.

Well, I'm sure there's more to it than that :P And they can always slightly change his backstory.

I'm sure there is more.

I just read the Hush wikipedia page on him and while I'm sure it works fine in a comic, his motivations seem petty, childish and out of place in the Nolanverse.

Terrible choice. I don't want a pretty boy in my gritty Batman movie. Too many stupid teen girls in the theater gawking at Depp for me to enjoy the movie.
:lol

so ledger and bale aren't pretty boys?

Depp would destroy that role... in the good way.

But this is all just baseless speculation for now.

I thought Gaf agreed that this man was the best riddler.
But does he have any range? I mean, he's good on LOST, but his performance as Ben as the Riddler would be absolutely boring.

@ karma - Yes. Why isn't anyone commenting on Eckhart being a pretty boy? I think he's cute.

I still have no reason why anybody thinks he would make a good Riddler. He plays a good character on Lost, but nothing coming from that performance and his physical appearance shouts Riddler.

And Cillian Murphy as the Scarecrow.

If we're nominating television actors, Id throw Michael C Hall's name in there. Hell, hes already playing a serial killer.

I wonder what Nolan is going to do with the Riddler, I mean a guy in a green costume with question marks all over it? :S

It's going to be impossible making the next movie as good as TDK but Depp sure could give it a decent shot.

Still I think bringing Riddler right after Joker wouldn't be such a good idea.
And how about a good Poison Ivy. Could be good.

Meh. I vote Bain played by John Cena for the next film. Riddler is cool but I can't decide between Dane Cook or Carlos Mencia for the role. I'm leaning Mencia, though.

Ditch the question marks? A plain green suit would work fine.

Well Scarecrow didn't end up wearing his entire costume from the comics in Begins. They just had the signature mask. With Riddler, you could make it as simple as having a green tie.

Considering the amount of times Riddler has consulted with Batman on cases, he doesn't even have to be a villian. The Riddler is just an extremely intelligent guy who has an obsession with proving he is smarter than everyone, so he leaves little clues.

I think Nolan could tone him down a bit. Instead of him leaving cheesy notes or puzzle boxes, this new Riddler could mark out a sentence in a newspaper in a crime scene, or tamper with something very small to test Batman's detective skills. Sorta like the stuff Joker did in TDK.

Too many people are thinking of the 60s Batman and Jim Carrey's performance when they hear Riddler. But the character has come a long way since then.

True, but Nolan made the character look so good and convincing in TDK, in Batman Forever the riddler looked retarded, looking back on it now. I'm curious to see how he does the Riddler. If he does the Riddler.

Batman - Zac Efron
Catwoman - Kristen Bell
Poison Ivy - Hannah Montana
Harley Quinn - Hayden Panatierrerrerereera

All girl villain cast. You know you like it.

I agree his motivation will be unrealistic in these movies. They should definitely find a better reason for him to want to go after Bruce Wayne (after all, they completely changed Two-Face's backstory since Rachel Dawes doesn't even exist in the DC universe). He just fits so well he has to be in: he's connected to Ra's al Ghul, Bruce Wayne, Two-Face and The Riddler. I think Nolan also said he wants someone who wasn't in the past movies.

Poison Ivy has super powers which seems to be a no-no with Nolan. Being insane, The Riddler is perfect to follow the past two villains. He also brings the opportunity for some great acting like The Joker did.

Exactly.

I always thought that if Nolan did choose to go the Riddler route, the film would be a series of smaller riddles solved throughout the film which all feed into a larger, grand finale, "holy shit my fucking mind is blown by how fucking clever that riddle is" riddle that is solved at the close of the film.

One that would become more incredible upon multiple viewings....
If they took The Dark Knight and turned it into a mindfuck then that could definitely make a worthy sequel.

Also, it's disappointing how many people simply missed that joke early in the thread. :P

Pretty much every male (aside from Morgan and Michael) in BB and TDK are pretty boys.
Are you insane?!
Michael Caine is the prettiest boy there is, YA BLUDDY TWIT! :P

My friend and I were talking and we concluded that
Rachel was re-casted as Maggie Gyllenhaal so you'd enjoy her death so much more.
She's much much much uglier than Katie Holmes and her performance definitely didn't match up to anyone else's in TDK.

Well, it was early on....

:P

I really wish they wouldn't plan this stuff too early just seems they want to cash out on it and let Nolan take his time to make another good Batman movie. On the topic of John Depp, sure he's good but I personally don't like him and if Wikipedia's right I'd really really really rather have David Tennant.

Look at him he's perfect!

Why am I not surprised?

Motherfucker can only do the same characters now!

#1: Throws his hair backward motion.
#2: Dramatic Cat/Dramatic Chipmunk "surprised/wide open eyes" expression.

He always does that!!!

It's as cheap as doing a fricking musical. You KNOW if you make a musical the critics will love it. Every damn musical is considered "genius". All you have to do is a grab a cane and strafe left and right while hopping your shoulders and you get a fucking award.

Hollywood blows!
