Why am I not surprised?

Motherfucker can only do the same characters now!

#1: Throws his hair backward motion.
#2: Dramatic Cat/Dramatic Chipmunk "surprised/wide open eyes" expression.

He always does that!!!

It's as cheap as doing a fricking musical. You KNOW if you make a musical the critics will love it. Every damn musical is considered "genius". All you have to do is a grab a cane and strafe left and right while hopping your shoulders and you get a fucking award.

Hollywood blows!

I hope you arent talking about Depp now?

My pick.

I despise the people claiming David Tennant would be a good Riddler. He's a shit actor that relies on stupid expressions that make kids giggle.

Actually.... I think that's a much better Riddler than Depp. I would love to see an evil Tennant...

Just watch Harry Potter IV.

I still think Christopher Eccleston would make a much better Dr. Who turned Riddler.

I think it would be a neat dynamic to have The Penguin and The Riddler in the next film. The Penguin--a perfect role for PSH--could have the same air of aristocracy, running the Iceberg Lounge as a means of maintaining deep connections with the mob and Gotham's underbelly. On the other hand, The Riddler could be the mastermind who fools and manipulates Gotham's wealthy elite. It would be interesting to see an attack against Batman from all fronts.

Y'know, as if Dent's death wouldn't be enough to galvanize the people's resolve against Batman.

they would never give the main bad guy role to a no-name actor.

I think Christopher Eccleston would qualify as more well known to US audiences than David Tennet. Both pretty much are unknowns unless you you watch Dr. Who, but Eccleston has been in more films outside that.

Both are no-names was my point. ;) I don't think more than like .001% of America has a clue who Eccleston is or even could recognize him. Doctor Who is nothing more than a cult little tv show on sci-fi in America, not that big at all.

Ever watch Batman Begins? :lol

Lol that whole exchange was classic.

Also Angelina Jolie as Catwoman? Stop for a moment and imagine her in the catwoman mask...she would look ridiculous. :lol

If only Joseph Gordon Levitt's acting skills were anywhere near Heath's. He looks exactly like Ledger.

Anywhere near? JGL is the superior actor. If the Joker is indeed featured prominently in BB3, thus requiring recasting, this is the man they should try woo. Dont know if he'd do it though, as he seems quite content to do mostly indie stuff.

Depp would be a fine choice, if a bit too easy a match after Ledger's Joker. My only problem with the Riddler is how would they make him different enough from TDK's Joker to seem fresh? I mean, they both seem like half sinister/half humorous villians that set up these elaborate tests. It just seems too similar.

Well, he HAS been cast as Cobra Commander, so I don't think it'd be out of the question. I'd definitely love to see him in a Batman film, though; he's a fantastic actor.

Thats why I said "mostly" :D The Lookout isnt an indie flick either.
Haha, fair enough. G.I. Joe is pretty much the furthest thing from indie, which is why I mentioned it. He's the only reason that I have any interest in seeing that potential train wreck (and suffering through Brendan Fraser... ugh). And I haven't seen The Lookout. I missed it in theatres then kind of forgot about it; definitely need to soon.

I'm really more interested in who they would use to cast Catwoman. It would have to be a female who would have a LOT of chemistry with Christian Bale, and I'm having trouble figuring out who that would be other than another guy. ;)

except the joker and riddler are two completely different characters with different origins, motivations, and relationship with the Batman.

im amazed by the number of people who still doubt nolan and his ability to cast the right actor for the right role.

for those who worry it will be too similar to TDK or that it wont focus on Batman and the police chasing him.....JUST STOP.

stop and think about it. Begins ends with the idea of escalation and TDK picks up right from there. TDK ends with the idea of Batman on the run....IM PRETTY DAMN SURE THAT THE THIRD ONE WILL PICK UP RIGHT FROM THERE. of course there will be a villain but maybe not as prominent which might be the best thing coming off of ledgers performance.

but i seriously have no doubts who they go with. as long as the nolan brothers are writing and directing and the core cast is back. no doubts but of course DEPP IMO is one hollywoods very best so whichever role he is selected for i think he can do.

also this whole "news" is nothing but baseless rumor. no truth to it whatsoever. they did not even annouce the heath playing joker this quickly. they have no concrete idea or script in place. nolan has not even agreed to the third one.

these are just baseless rumors.

I know Batman Begins #3 talk was unavoidable, but damn I wish/hope they don't make one for a good 3-4 years, if at all. I could wait 10 years for another one.

That's why I think Catwoman is the next obvious "villain" choice, because they could play up the "outlaw romance" angle, and how Gotham currently sees her and Batman as one and the same, so he seeks refuge in the tainted love of a criminal. But then another villain hits the scene (Riddler, or whoever, but another "plain" Batman villain, of course) and gets Batman to take back his rightful place as a hero.

I have faith that this is the direction Nolan will take with a Catwoman story.

BILL PAXTON for Riddler!

EXT. WAYNE TOWER - NIGHT

Riddler is carving an opening one of the top-floor's windows.

RIDDLER
All these Billionare companies are the same, low security systems on the top floor. They never think anyone will make it past the first few.

BATMAN
What happens when they catch on to what you're doing and start upgrading their security systems?

RIDDLER
Nah this company is run by some playboy jerk.

BATMAN
(nodding)
"Run by some playboy jerk."

RIDDLER
Yeah man. He'll see it as a one off, like all these people with too much money to worry about do. I mean lets face it - if they took care of business I'd be outta business!

BATMAN
Haha. THOSE IDIOTS.

Cutting aside from the Riddler talk, if ever it's decided to make a Batman film with much older protagonists, a kind of final fling then Tom Waits would be a great outside-of-the-box shot as the Joker. Okay, unlikely, because such a film obviously won't be made within the next decade, if ever, and Waits is already nearly 60.

Heath's Joker has a *very* similar speaking pattern to the one Waits often does, and the twitchy body language is along similar lines too. In fact, I wonder if Heath was a fan or if he'd looked up Waits because he knew he would be working with him on his next film (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) and maybe taken in a bit of his act consciously or otherwise.

Actually, fuck it - When I think about it, Waits would make a great huckster of a Riddler too. :lol

For everyone splooging all over themselves at the possibility of Depp being in the next Batman, him and Bale are starring opposite of each other in Michael Mann's next movie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1152836/

If this doesn't pan out, this could be the closest you'd get. :P

What? Bale is playing Purvis? Isn't he a little young?

:lol Hugh Jackman as Catwoman.

wtf Nolan is NOT casting a fucking american for whatever villain he has in mind. nothing suggested in this thread will pan out.

Someone mentioned something funny about this

Casting Depp would be the first "big star" to say in the new Batman movies. Kinda like how the old ones had...OMG See Arnold as Freeze, Thruman as Ivy, Jack as Joker, etc etc.
I mean you think about it, Freeman was probably the biggest name in the first one and had an extremely minor role. They had people who were known, just not massive huge like depp is all.

Its funny but, it could also mean turning the new batman into what ruined it in the first place.

I'm not saying he would be bad or anything. But it could lead to the same thing which made the first 4...meh:lol

Michael Caine
Christian Bale
Heath Ledger
Morgan Freeman
Liam Neeson
etc.

Yeah, you're right. What a bunch of unknowns. BB is practically an indie flick.

Terrible choice. I don't want a pretty boy in my gritty Batman movie. Too many stupid teen girls in the theater gawking at Depp for me to enjoy the movie.
Even the manliest of men want to fuck Johnny Depp.

I don't care who they cast, I just hope that the next movie features The Riddler as the main villain.

Memento + Batman = Pure, unadulterated win

I'm not sure that I like this idea. With Depp playing the villain I could see the next movie becoming more "light-hearted." Depp is incapable of playing a villian who would keep the movie and dark and disturbing as Dark Knight.
