Damn Hierophant green is an ugly stand.
The thing I dislike about Hierophant Green is that it started the trend of really generic stand designs where it's just this humanoid alien robot thing. Enigma, echoes act 3, Judgement, Highway star, Planet waves, Stone free, Kiss, gold experience, moody blues, Diver Down, CMOON, spice girl... among others really just have this look that makes me think we'll that's weird but not that interesting.

Better than Highway to hell or Manhattan Transfer... I don't even know what those are supposed to be, but I guess more people need stands that aren't really punch ghosts nor are they bound things. Sort of like how Joseph just has vines.

I like Stone Free more than Star Platinum. The latter is.way too humanoid for my tastes.
That's why I like Star Platinum it's just another Pillar man that hovers around Jotaro. I feel like the SC crew have the most simplistic but recognisable stand designs. Vines, a fire bird, a strong dude, a knight, a sand monster, and... Hierophant Green. Part 5 we get 3 Hierophant Greens, a cool zipper stand, a plane, and six bullets.

Jojo Part 6: oOpps alls Hierophant Green, baby!

Our tastes are pretty divergent here, Pt 3's stands don't do much for me bar The Fool while I like the more alien looking designs from 5 & 6. What do you think about the stands from 7 & 8? I really like most of those, but most of then stick with being expressionless

I can see issue with newer humanoid stands being less defining than Part 3's more variety themed stands. But I think as battles become less head on collisions between punch ghosts and adopting more thriller-esque, body horror attrition of minds, I think changing most humanoid stands into slender, amalgamated (if a bit robotic) designs helps accentuate it. From punch ghosts to literal-what-the-fuck-is-that ghost.

Though, we could use more than just humanoids in a main cast group. Part 5 had the right idea there.

The greater emphasis on body horror kept me going when I was binging on the manga earlier. My wife thinks the whole series is just torture porn when I try to explain why I am giggling at Araki's latest insanity.

Early on I would try to explain that the strategy aspect of "oh fuck, so THESE are the rules we have to try to negotiate" appealed to me (which it absolutely does) but at some point I had to admit this was secondary to the joy of just placing yourself in the hands of a lunatic and seeing where his fancy takes me.

I agree with the previous poster. Not that part 5-7 did not have great art, it is just that all characters look so serious. I see hardly anyone laugh or being in a wacky situation. Even when Jotaro was so serious, the rest were not. Part 6 goes strictly to seinen territory. An anime adaptation of the next arcs would be very boring regarding character expressions. They'd need to change direction or artstyle drastically. Part 4 is fit for TV adaptation but this is really the limit regarding the manga material. I'd hate it to get the CGI animation of the video games though.
I don't know how anyone could go through years worth of Gyro Zeppeli and not come out thinking he wasn't a goofy motherfucker. Even when he gets serious about the golden ratio and spin he's pretty out there. Johnny on the other hand can barely take his shit sometimes and just rolls with it.

While I would agree that the art was pretty severe in part 6 part 5 was equal parts fabulous and ridiculous and that on top of having some of the best character art in manga at times part 7 was pretty well rounded.

That said I think part 5 and 7 will make the transition just fine. Part 6 though is going to take need some liberties because Araki does not fuck around there.

And since recent posts dictate that SBF fans are in the midst I will say that I hate Pat and Woolie for ponting out that Joshu Higashikata is a Jojo. Although I don't remember if we had an oppurtunity to see if they had the mark it's possible that both the Higashikatas and the Kujos are Joestar families which would make Joshu (the worst) Jojo in more than just name alone.

Johnny married Rina Higashikata, remember? The Higashikatas and Joestars are linked there, but they're separate families. Joshu doesn't have the star.

I like to think of it as Jotaro being so close to Dio, who was the progenitor of the Stand powers for the JoJo line, strengthened Star Platinum/Jotaro while they were in proximity of each other. And once Dio died, Jotaro lost some of that.
Wait wait wait hold up there breezy.
Are you implying that since dio stole jonathans body that he would have had the strongest stand?
OH MY GODT!

I forgot that Koichi questions Jotaro when it comes to stands lmao. Listen to your elders.

all of Dio's children are genetically Jonathan's children

Of course but there is Brando in there as well.
My head canon is Giorno is 50/50 but the others are 25/75 in Dio's favor.

Jojo manga art became more exquisite and detailed from part to part. 5-7 would have to feature decent animation in scenes that so far have been adapted to still pictures with dialogue in the anime. That was more pronounced in Stardust Crusaders to the point of getting annoying. Diamond part does this too but to a less extent. Unfortunately it was exactly those scenes I'd have liked to see animated.
Kinda like the Stardust Crusaders old OVA did 20 years ago, using their own approach and creating unique scenes and angles not featured in the manga. I mean there is no need to pursue manga panel effects. Just make use of animation camera angles instead.
They make things worse by trying to be so faithfull to the manga.

Shortening the manga to 39 episodes was a good move and hence the reduction of still panels, but they have not changed their approach yet. Jojo manga when compared to other shonen and seinen titles, felt like every part was completely different from each other in everything. Yet you felt there was always a connection. This is what made that manga so special.

A TV adaptation would also need to have a different approach to be as faithfull. I wouldnt mind if different studios made every part separately.

I'm about 3 stand users away from the end of part 7 so I can't really comment on 8 except Soft and Wet and Born this way which I do like. Overall I really like part 7. Really like Tusk, scary monsters, and D4C. In a Silent Way looks cool, I like how stupid Wired, Cream Starter, and Oh Lonesome me are and Catch the Rainbow is so cool looking that I want to Cosplay as Blackmore. Really don't remember Tomb of the Boom or Rythm of the Night.

I think that's what I look for, how memorable it is! Is it cool looking, does it have some theme to it? I don't even by default hate the alien robot look, I think Highway star looks cool! But it just says nothing about the stand. I came to this series from Persona so I sort of like the idea that the Stand reflects the character. I like out of part 5 and 6 my favourite stands are probably Beach Boy, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, King Crimson, Dragon Dream, Weather Report and Sex Piatols because thematically they seem to have something that I take notice of.

WR is cloud like, KC has multiple faces and that really bizarre paranoid look, Whitesnake has all that cool text on him and sort of looks like a gimp, black Sabbath looks like a priest of some sort, Sex pistols looks like a bunch of cool bullet guys, Dragon Dream looks like a ornament someone would use in their house to look Asian, and beach boy is a fishing pole. To me they all make sense and have a purpose to their design. Something like Spice girl or Hierophant Green doesn't. The stands in part 3 are dumb and simplistic but I will remember the electric outlet stand or the comic book stand or the giant ship stand.

Going back to part 7 tubular bells is a dumb looking stand, but I will remember the guy that made Baloon dogs out of nails over Kraftwerk.
