JPay, the Apple of the US Prison System

Aside from the fact that i don't agree with it, i don't understand how you deal with the fact that these people will, at some point, be set free into society once again, with all that psychological baggage on their shoulders, most of them having to start again with little to nothing.
Exactly... everyone who says "oh fuck the prisoners, let them rot" should be ready to deal with the consequences of what happens when we take people that have already committed crimes, throw them into a violent environment, lock them in a box, strip them of all their human liberties and then let them back into society.

Might as well make sure we at least try to treat them somewhat humanely and try to rehabilitate them that way they come back int our populace and aren't mentally fucked up/don't want to kill everyone.

Does anyone else remember that thread where some gaffer was arguingg that Child's Play was a bad charity because "if the kids are that sick, they shouldn't be playing games."?

That was ridiculous...

Just because they're in prison doesn't mean we can't sell em crap ! =D

I don't worry about punishing or not punishing prisoners but man.... dat capitalism.

Many of them are already monsters, listening to Usher won't change that. Fine, give the ones who have committed non violent crimes an MP3 player. But the one who have committed violent crimes should rot.

Right. And when they rape each other and engage in other antisocial behavior, it's gonna be sooooo healthy for the rest of us when they're released back into society, right? They're already rotting. This is helping them rot a little bit less so maybe their minds do go completely during their time. Prison isn't someplace you put someone and throw away the key. It's supposed to be a place for rehab so they can return to society better. This also might help defer some of the costs of housing these people, which is expensive. It might be shocking, but people in prisons are still human beings. PEACE.

In hospital entertainment systems are no better and they're for the law abiding vulnerable members of our society.

This is not the most nonsensical comparison you could possibly make, but it's close. Guess what -- if you think this device is so much better than what you'd get in a hospital, you can probably just buy one, because you're allowed to take your own stuff into a hospital.

they're buying the songs right? and the device? then what's the problem? some of you like to sound outrageous and dictatorial.

but why does it have to be an mp3 player or a media tablet?

whats wrong with just a radio or a book?

Seems more like a scheme to make a buck off prisoners than rehabilitation >_>

at the very least, it could be a government run scheme with the profits put back into education....

like the taxes in cigarettes being used in healthcare.

Of course it is. That's what 70% of prison is about.

Is it really so nonsensical? It's an overpriced, installed facility that many people are reliant upon for entertainment. Good luck bringing in your own television into a hospital, or being allowed to use some types of devices. Assuming you can afford a portable device...

My post was merely to temper the outrage, given that hospital entertainment is equally atrocious in my opinion.
