TikTok has shut down in the US (UP: TikTok is in the process of restoring service in the US)

There are other factors at play than money making here. China is actively making Western youth (including your daughters) dumber.
You think America needs help making their kids dumber? Did China dismantle the public-school curriculum? Math I took in 7th grade, my kids are taking in 10th. In the same honors class tier. Did China make our food additive rules that allow companies to feed us industrial waste dressed up as candy? Does China send billions of our tax dollars to the richest people in poor countries as ""humanitarian aid"". The Chinese govt isn't some altruistic force, but from where I sitting they don't even make the first page of the list of "American problems". It's a scapegoat.

You never answered me about who picks up that shipping tab. I'm going to need an explanation from you about that and the farmland if I'm going to take your arguments seriously.

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
We're of the opinion this banning is just anti-competitive. Frankly I don't care if China knows what videos I like to watch. Much more concerned about our own government. Another point to this being a dog and pony show: Do you know who pays for the shipping when you order a fake Final Fantasy plushie from AliExpress? Have you ever gotten a quote to send a similar sized parcel to China? Get back to me on this one. My kids do.
You're absolutely right. It's just anti-competitive under the guise of national security. Another example of this is back in 2020 Huawei for a brief period became the no. 1 cell phone maker in the world, yes even beating Samsung and Apple then suddenly they get banned. America will not allow any other country have any sort of influence over the world and these bans are proof of that.

Welp, even faster than I imagined. Literally a massive political gift handed on a silver platter. Incredible to see incompetence.

I doubt that.

Also... TikTok isn't as bad as some of y'all are saying. I've been thoroughly entertained and informed on TikTok more than I have been on most other apps. I saw speeches by Dr. King and FDR on there that I've never seen before, or heard them if there wasn't video (like being on the radio) and how there was so much more to Dr. King than just "I Have A Dream". Not just them, but I discovered people like Angela Davis, Nikki Giovanni, James Baldwin, etc.

I discovered (not in the Christopher Columbus way) the dancing sisters Let It Happen, musical mashup geniuses (I forget his handle), comedians I actually like like L'Eah Sampson and others ... Including Spanish teaching (I learned a bit) and crocheting and lots of other things, not to mention people used it to sell their wanted to make a living.

So while the skibidis get the attention for being vapid, there were a lot of good accounts on there.

I was nowhere close to being a political major so someone correct me if I am wrong. Trump can only issue an executive order and even that can be struck down by the supreme court if they choose to do so. Is this not law now and it would require a reversal by the supreme court or congress to amend the constitution?

He can delay the deadline via executive order. Biden could have done the same thing. But to answer your question, yes, the Supreme Court could also overrule that, but not going to happen immediately. The law is vague anyway, as long as "progress" is being made toward a deal, it can be delayed further as well. Not sure about the maximum extent of that, though.

FOND DU LAC – A 19-year-old man accused of setting fire to a building in Fond du Lac early Sunday that included Republican U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman's office cited the TikTok ban as a motive in the incident, according to authorities.

The Fond du Lac Police Department said the Menasha man was arrested after being found near a strip mall, 525 N. Peters Ave., that contained Grothman's district office.

Police and fire officials initially responded to the strip mall about 1 a.m. after receiving a report of a fire. The building was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported, police said. Fire personnel extinguished the blaze, which began outside the building and burned the building's outside siding and an air conditioning unit.

Police said the 19-year-old suspect “admitted to starting the fire in response to recent talks of a TikTok ban.” Grothman was among a bipartisan majority of 360 House members who voted last year in favor of a bill that would force TikTok’s Chinese parent company to sell the app or face a ban in the U.S. That ban went into effect over the weekend.

Grothman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the fire was contained to outside the building. He said the fire did not appear to get inside but said a staff member who visited the scene told him the office smelled of smoke.

A photo provided to the Journal Sentinel by Grothman's office shows what an aide said was the burned back door of the congressman's district office.

Wow. And to think it's already back online.

The Democrat morons bolstering Trump even more with what is practically one of the best marketing campaigns to younger generations ever because Zuckerberg and AIPAC paid them off to ban Tiktok

Clown world
I just can't believe it. It was obvious even, say, last week that this was going to unfold this way. Why there wasn't a huge push for Biden to strike this action first to rob the victory is just insane to me. I cannot grasp it.

It's scary going through their TOS of what they record including keystrokes. But hey, if you want to put your life and financial info out there for the Chinese to look at all the power to you.

Sure, Trump once tried to ban TikTok, but it's clear that his views on the platform completely changed after he left office. Don't forget, Trump himself mentioned on Joe Rogan's podcast last year that he had a profile on the platform, and that same platform helped his campaign. Of course, this is all politics, and the opinions of these politicians constantly change over time. I don't think Trump sees TikTok the same way he did back in 2020. That's facts, to be honest.

The goal is still the same - to manage at least 50% divestiture. Nothing has changed.

Why would you ever put your financial info into TikTok? If you think they can record your keystrokes outside the app, that's not how anything works.

I guess we DO negotiate with terrorists after all.

My fear is that Trump just reinstates the app sometime next week. It really just needs to be gone for good. The issue here is that the Chinese use our own system against us while they have no qualms banning US companies over there. It really needs to be a tit-for-tat situation especially because China is using this to spy on US citizens.
Problem is, our apps (Facebook, IG, YouTube, Twitter, Threads) suck and their algorithms are even worse, plus those fuckers are probably selling my information anyway.

TikTok just…..works. It doesn’t show me anything I don’t want to see and keeps me in my lane. If the above apps actually did that maybe it wouldn’t be a big deal if TikTok was gone.

TikTok is like video Reddit. I only see and interact with my interests.

Well, fuck that. Wonder how this will play out. I guess they have now like 90 days to find a buyer? But I thought Bytedance wouldn't want to sell? Obviously this might just have been a negotiation tactic or something. Or they'll just "sell" it to some company they'll start up in Singapore or some place that totally won't have any chinese influence, pinky promise.

If Trump somehow pulls this off and TikTok actually stays popular (unlike Twitter) then Democrats got played HARD. I do hope he fails, for a variety of reasons.

I doubt that.
I hope not. If we reinstate TikTok after they shutdown we are signaling to the CCP that they will win. We care more about our shiny little videos than we do about our own security. There is a reason they did not sell TikTok. They know how we spoiled Americans are going to react. They even went dark early so they can watch this unfold.
So anyway it's back...
