My LG tv notified me they removed the tick tok app.

They had to. This ban punishes the app stores that distribute the app and the technology companies that support it. They can be fined $5,000 per user per day for people who are still able to access it.

That's the great thing, we don't need other countries to ban it now anymore anyways. With the US gone, TikTok will (hopefully and expectedly) lose traction very quickly in other parts as well, and so the CCP is left with an app that no one uses anymore.

I kinda hate it because this will probably also impact my (very legally aged!) korean idols dancing in skimpy clothing to brainrot music I love, but since there's a market, there will be a new platform.

He can only reinstate it for 90 days. The Supreme Court has ruled the ban is lawful so trump can’t overrule them. He will but them 90 days to find another buyer.

I get where you're coming from with your valid criticisms about how Facebook and Twitter acted during Covid and the 'misinformation' period. But that is hopefully over now with some degree of sanity being restored, and everything they did at the behest of the "Resistance" and later the Biden Admin is just a drop in the bucket compared to the levers of control the CCP exercises and is perfecting. Those methods and technical expertise for population thought control won't stay in China.

There is a nonzero chance members of this forum will be drafted to fight in a war with China.

Also... TikTok isn't as bad as some of y'all are saying. I've been thoroughly entertained and informed on TikTok more than I have been on most other apps. I saw speeches by Dr. King and FDR on there that I've never seen before, or heard them if there wasn't video (like being on the radio) and how there was so much more to Dr. King than just "I Have A Dream". Not just them, but I discovered people like Angela Davis, Nikki Giovanni, James Baldwin, etc.

I discovered (not in the Christopher Columbus way) the dancing sisters Let It Happen, musical mashup geniuses (I forget his handle), comedians I actually like like L'Eah Sampson and others ... Including Spanish teaching (I learned a bit) and crocheting and lots of other things, not to mention people used it to sell their wanted to make a living.

So while the skibidis get the attention for being vapid, there were a lot of good accounts on there.

Well, the way the ban works is that it is in place if the President declares that TikTok or whomever meets certain conditions. As the President, Trump can declare that those conditions are not met.

Congress can't actually pass a law saying "TikTok is banned." That is unconstitutional and they didn't do that.

Regardless of who owns ByteDance these days, is ByteDance beholden to law which they are legally required to cooperate with CCP intelligence?

I have no problem if they want to look into further foreign apps and even US owned apps. That being said, because Temu is still operating, it doesn't change anything for TikTok or make it any more or less a security threat. IMO, data collection should have been regulated a lot more closely before it became the issue it is today.

Both my daughters are already on Red Note. We had some fun this morning making videos for the Chinese. If anything, this could do wonders for non-governmental population relations. Just imagine, Chinese citizens and Americans becomes besties and our govts just rage about it. That's the best ending. I've gone to China for work several times and have nothing but good things to say about those people. If we just got to know each other we can mutually tell our govs to kick rocks. We're of the opinion this banning is just anti-competitive. Frankly I don't care if China knows what videos I like to watch. Much more concerned about our own government. Another point to this being a dog and pony show: Do you know who pays for the shipping when you order a fake Final Fantasy plushie from AliExpress? Have you ever gotten a quote to send a similar sized parcel to China? Get back to me on this one. My kids do.

But as I said above, I found many accounts I actually learned from like LeVert The Bassman and others... I learned some Spanish... I saw and heard more from Dr. King and JFK and Angela Davis and James Baldwin and Nikki Giovanni and the Black Panthers and George Bush and others than I ever did here or in the past 40 years. All on TikTok. That's just scratching the surface.
