July 2014 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes August 12th

I don't know what kind of expectations some are holding on to... that somehow it can come back to be a lead platform? It is what it is. This months numbers are okay given the demand curve to date. They're not bad or good, they fit right where they should. Are there a whole bunch of people who still haven't adjusted their expectations for this thing?

Not really I think some are setting their expectations levels so low that they won't be disappointed no matter how bad this thing does. It's fine and all but from an objective point of view these are really bad numbers. Not sure how you can even say something like they are not bad or good? What's good about this exactly?

no need for hyperbole like being the new lead platform anything. It should be able to at least hold above 100k by now

Below are the PlayStation highlights from the July NPD report:

§ PlayStation 4 was #1 in sales for the seventh consecutive month and remains the cumulative leader for next generation game consoles.

§ PlayStation 4 led the month for next generation software sales by a considerable margin, with The Last of Us Remastered taking the #1 spot.

§ PlayStation 4 games accounted for more than half of total next generation software sales.

§ For the second consecutive month, PlayStation was #1 in combined home console hardware sales (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3).

Other notable global PlayStation 4 sales milestones from this week:

§ PlayStation 4 sales have surpassed 10 million units sold through to consumers worldwide, demonstrating the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history.

§ More than 30 million copies of PS4 software have been sold in retail stores globally and through digital downloads on PS Store.

Not sure how you can even say something like they are not bad or good?

After 21 months in market, the demand curve is fairly predictable for hardware, pending price changes. Good would mean that for some reason, demand picked up above where that demand curve would predict. Bad would be below that demand curve. In this case, it's right where it should be, so it's neither good nor bad.

However, you could let us know if the aggregate is close or not for this month... :)

Y'all are good.

"PlayStation 4 games accounted for more than half of total next generation software sales."

This is what really stood out to me..damn

This two. Damn, man, they're really having a good time!

It's not that surprising. Wii U software sales are not good, and PS4 is selling a good bit better than Xbone. Unless they are including the handhelds as well, then that would be pretty impressive.

Hmmm... if the PS4 and PS3 outsold the Xbone and 360, that means the gap is probably at least 30-40k as that's how much the 360 tends to outsell the PS3.

That means my predictions of 210k for PS4 and 199k for Xbone are off. =(

oh you make it sound as if you have this demand curve calculated and hence this number is withing expectations. Care to share?

Listen, I get it. You are trying to say it's expected to be low overall so it's not a surprise. Sure. But it's still horrible numbers. I don't care if the demand curve dictates the PS Vita tv is selling within expectations to some posters here...the numbers are still horrible.

Why you would predict Xbox One being that close with no big software release is another question.
