July 2014 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes August 12th

I guess TLOU could also be a factor. PS4 owners put their spending money on that game instead of CoD.

This is a good point. I can't imagine a PS4 owner looking for a new game buying a COD game that's been out since launch over TLOU.

What were the big XB1 releases for July? Maybe COD didnt have as much competition on that platform

lol at the Microsoft PR:

“Xbox One continues to sell at a strong and steady pace following the release of the $399 console in June, when month-to-month sales more than doubled,” a Microsoft spokesperson told GamesBeat. “We continued to see this momentum in July.”[/QUOTE]

Huh

I'm going all digital on PS4 starting with Destiny. These NPD software charts aren't very reliable anymore. They only tell half the story.

Also I got 3 copies on Xbone for $6 each at Target.

Yeah, I bet that's a small part. But the huge discount it probably a large chunk of it: basic economics tells us that at each price drop you get a large amount of sales from people that were unwilling to buy at the previous, higher price.

Huh

Let's see the RECEIPTS!

The PR statement doesn't sound too enthusiastic.

"new launch sales declined steeply by close to 70 percent in July 2014.”

So, The Last of Us could be close to 200k.

(don't take this number seriously, it's a really wild guess)

Someone wake up Nirolak!

Lol, dat wording..

Sunset Overdrive.

Just to put this in perspective:

In every store I checked, we got more preorders for the MCC on the day of announcement than SO has accumulated since it was announced last year. I want SO to do well, because it looks like they're trying some fun ideas (though it's not my style of game, nor do I have an XBO), but I feel like the hopes associated with it on here are a bit misguided. The white XB1 is more likely to be the driving reason for sales than the included game, I'm afraid.

You guys all sound like you want a console manufacturer monopoly. I don't think you were around when the PS3 launched if that's something you're interested in. Cocky Sony is retarded Sony ($599 U.S. Dollars, 4D, you'll work overtime to pay for it, giant enemy crab, cell processor, etc).

Maybe it's because some of us don't believe in slippery slope arguments.

This entire discussion is stupid. The PS3's *one* mistake was its cost. Everything that was packed into it, while taking a loss of $200+ on each console sold. Sony was very forward thinking with most of the hardware, it was only the Cell part that could have been more carefully thought through. The comments like "work overtime for it" were stupid, but the hardware itself was fantastic value for the price. That didn't mean it was a *good* price for the mainstream market, but at the time, a standalone blu-ray player was well over a grand, so please, just stop with this.

I'm not saying I want a single console generation, and I do believe that having competing products is good. But what is happening this generation is the result of competition. A product is clearly winning out for the mindshare and marketshare, because the market has spoken.

Who said that?

Are there a whole bunch of people who still haven't adjusted their expectations for this thing?

EDIT: Yeah I know the answer to that question.

I mean, 40k would have been "really bad"

July Min/Max predictions per system:
Code:
SYS MIN MAX
--- ---------- ----------
XB1 86 K 210 K
PS4 160 K 339 K
360 0 K 80 K
PS3 0 K 75 K
3DS 35 K 160 K

Ya no one wants that again. I don't believe anyone wants Microsoft to continue to be anti-consumer.

I'm all for people buying the Wii U. Decent little system but it needs a price drop.

Why do people always call PS3 cocky Sony? PS3 was "oh shit how are we going to sell this costly piece of equipment ... the blu-ray diodes delayed again wtf that's going to put back our release date, what else could go wrong" "sir, nvidia are on the phone, something about RSX not hitting targets?" "fuuuccckkkkkk!!!"

Cocky sony was PS1 "$299, bitches"

Ouch! I feel bad for Insomniac. They always seem to try hard, but never catch a break with getting that super breakout hit. Thanks for the info.

Everyone makes mistakes, but Sony has proven it can handle monopolies pretty damn fairly, the PS1 and PS2 are proof enough of that. Arguably things were a lot better back then than they are today.

Morning GAF

Sorry if this has been posted but I've been watching Amazon daily throughout the day (don't hate I find it interesting) and the PS4 has hovered around 5-7 everyday, whereas the XB1 has been in the 30s and 40s mostly since Kinectless. Think it topped at 29 once. Don't see his reports being right or even close unless he means Xbox family. It might retain it's weekly though.

No hate from me. I do the same thing over breakfast every morning. Except I check .com and .co.uk

No numbers yet? :(

Here's donny estimated numbers.
Reposting for new page.

I agree. Here's what I get for numbers from that.

PS4 - 135 degrees = 187K (basis)
WIU - 58.1 degrees = 80.5K (matches)
XB1 - 94.6 degrees = 131K (matches)
PS3 - 23.4 degrees = 32.4K
WII - 10 degrees = 13.9K
360 - 38.9 degrees = 53.9K

Or

1. PS4 - 187K
2. XB1 - 131K
3. 3DS (probably)
4. Wii U - 80.5K
5. 360 - 53.9K
6. PS3 - 32.4K
7. PSV - 16K
8. Wii - 13.9K

The PS3 was sold at a 300$ per unit loss for Sony.

So even at $599 they were being generous with the product. The PS3 was the culmination of Ken Kutaragi having his way and doing his own thing, along with Sony wanting to push a new disc format at the same time. Remember also that the cheapest blu-ray players were in the 300-400$ range when it was just getting going.

The PR was not good at the time of the PS3 release, but the price itself was actually incredibly generous knowing it was selling at such a massive loss per console. It could of been a $899 system if Sony actually wanted to profit from it

[PS4] 213K
[XB1] 141K
[3DS] 108K
[WIU] 77K
[360] 49K
[PS3] 32K
So looking at the numbers we have so far.
1. PS4 - 187K
2. XB1 - 131K
3. 3DS (probably)
4. Wii U - 80.5K
5. 360 - 53.9K
6. PS3 - 32.4K
7. PSV - 16K
8. Wii - 13.9K
PS4 - 26K high
XB1 - 10K high
3DS ?
WIU - 3.5K low
360 - 4.9K low
PS3 - 0.4K low

Off by 44.8K so far. Not a terrible month, depending upon 3DS.
PS4's the culprit in underperforming my expectations.
