Jumping Flash PSP would be really nice.

After playing through the first two again, well, I've got a hankering for a portable version. Plus it'd look really really pretty.

Considering the first party titles that are on the way now (Wipeout, Ape Escape, Popolocrois), I would say this is coming too... as long as the developers are still around.

Wasn't 3 farmed out to a third party, though?

JUUUUUUUUUUMPING FLASH!!!!
I originaly had my heart set on Sega Saturn.
Saturn costed $400 dollars at the time. I didn't have enough for the saturn so I spent the $300 dollars on the newcomer the Playstation.
I couldn't even afford a game. I just played the fuck out of the demo and rented a game or three.

In a matter of days I got my first game Ridge Racer.
Ridge Racer was so cool It had Galaga on the loading screen no some other classic.
Regardless It pioneered playing another artists music buy the game loading directly to the Ps tiny Ram.
You could play a Nirvana Cd as you played the game. Ingenios!
PS1 for Life!

God I still remember the main theme song from the 1st level of Jumping Flash. I also remember his voice keep going "3 to go!". This was truly an underated video game classic.

The music was certainly catchy!

Hot damn.

Jumping Flash rocks harder than corndog sales at a Meatloaf concert.

I can honestly say it is second only to Super Mario 64 in terms of 3D pure platforming for me.

I know, I know, I must be insane for saying this, but I had much more fun with the first two JF! games (third is from a different developer and sucks) than ANY other 3D plaformer. This includes Mario 64.

Jumping Flash! is one of the few platformers, 2D or 3D, released after 1995 that was actually about the PLATFORMING. Not running around exploring levels or returning to previous areas in an effort to increase game length, just 100% pure jumping around, grabbing the few items scattered around the level and going to the exit. LOVED IT.

The Japanese Jumping Flash! 2 also included the full version of the original game, which I hadn't played at the time back then. I couldn't believe I had missed out on it before the sequel was released.

Developer Exact's next games, Ghost In The Shell for the PSX and the Fantavision games for the PS2, rocked too! :)

Mario 64 gave birth to 3D platforming! They should...wait.. Nevermind.

Jumping Flash! came first. Its predecessor was released on a Japanese PC in 1994, too. MARIOWNED. :D

Wow, I didn't know the folks behind Jumping Flash were the same that did GiTS. Makes some sense though, in hindsight.

From Jumping Flash to the kickass Ghost in the Shell. My, what a talented crew they must have had. I really hope they take notice of the PSP's need for jumping robots.

Holy shit, I totally forgot about a part 3!

It was made by Sugar & Rockets IIRC. I didn't even know it existed until I saw it on a reseller's website several years back, and ordered it right away. It sucked so bad. :(

:( Good thing I never played the 3rd one. I like to preserve this series in my head as one of the coolest games ever.
Rabbits? CHECK!
Robots? CHECK!
Fireworks? CHECK!
Hyper-Japanese Strangess? CHECK!

I loved the sound of the wind and the fog in the sky if you jumped really high... gave a feeling of freedom.

A port of Jumping Flash would really be a dream come true for me. The last time I checked the head of EXACT the developer of JF had some harsh word for the Nintendo DS, it also was noted they were working on a PSP title, but I don't know what it was. Maybe a puzzle game.

Wasn't part 1 the first game to get a full five stars from Next Generation magazine? They called it the first true 3D platformer if I'm not mistaken (which is obviously true).

It's not true. The first was Infogrames' Alpha Waves/Continuum on PC in 1991. Jumping Flash isn't even Exact's 1st 3D platformer, that was Geograph Seal on X86000 in 1994.

Has anyone played any of the JF games recently? Any word on how they've aged? Generally, most PSX games are basically unplayable now. Seeing as how JF used fairly simplistic colors, I would hope that it aged better.

Yeah, I recently purchased both of them about 6 months ago. Played through 1 and 2 and was not really bothered by the graphics all that much. Obviously opinions will differ on the subject :D

According to a quick google some site says Next Gen gave it and its sequel 4/5.

I loved the first two JF games. Never played the third. It was one of the first real introduction to 3D game play for a lot of console owners. I'd say I enjoyed JF more then Mario 64, but Mario did a great job of taking an existing game from 2D to 3D.

I remember jumping really high in the air and then looking down, between your feet no less, and seeing how tiny everything way and getting a sense of vertigo from that height. What an awesome experience at the time. A PSP port would be a welcome addition for me. Such an under appreciated title.

As long as it is the first.

The sequel wasn't very good.

Yeah it was the same thrill for me... Robbit could jump so friggin high... and as someone else said you just got the air sound... and world was just so far away.....

They're jaggy, but it's nothing horrible. The simplistic art style really helps to keep the game from aging too badly, and even gives it a certain sense of charm.

That's sorta half correct; at a certain point, NG start re-adjusting their old scores, to "reflect the times" so to speak. I think that might be the case here.

Hm, well, I think I now have to go to the trouble of tracking down the first game and it's sequel. Strangely, aside from an incomplete American version, there only seems to be import copies on eBay. Does anyone know if they're Japanese-heavy?

That's already a shame not to have a PS2 Jumping Flash! Common Sony!! (or Exact or whatever who's owning the liscence)

Jumpin flash is the biggest influence I can link Metroid Prime's controls to...

any update to the Jumping Flash universe is OK by me : D

For Minotauro:

Hardly any Japanese text and simple as pie.

Cool. Thanks!

Looking at eBay, it seems like I could have the imports of the first two for $8 a piece. That might just be worth it...

At this point id take jumping flash on the atari.

just give me another jumping flash.

If you're looking for a version to pick up, I recommend the Japanese version of 2.

The US version of the first game had it's cutscenes removed because they were drinking beer. (oh noez!) The european version had the scenes intact and in english.

The Japanese version of JF2 came out when SCEI was in it's really cool stage so you received Japanese JF2 + uncut english JF1 together in a dual cd case. I picked it up from Gameland in Torrance for... $13.95? something like that. Cheaps!

There's no mention of it coming with the first one in the auction...

I bought the PS1 on day one (my friends with 3DO's laughed at me), and played the crap out of the demo disc they gave you (JF was one of the playable demo's).

I only had enough to buy two games .. so I bought Toshinden and Destruction Derby. Jumping Flash would have to wait. A few months later I bought it and loved it. I though the control could have been a little better, but the jumping/platforming was fantastic. The psychedelic colors and ideas were very cool too.

All those initial PS1 games were not the deepest games in the world ... but they all had thier unique individuality, and highlighted alot of features of the new generation of games to come.

Yea thats it - still got mine. Maybe the seller is getting rid of JF1 seperatly?

Minotauro said:
Was there a separate case or would the other disc just be inside?

It was inside the case - one disc on each side - you can also tell its a larger case from the paper binding next to the book in that pic. I would email him tho to double check he's giving you both.

Actually, the 1+2 remakes/ports seem to be all the rage on GBA. SCEJ''s already doing this with PoPoLoCrois PSP, they should just go all out with PSone stuff...

-Jumping Flash 1+2
-Crime Crackers 1+2
-Gran Turismo 1+2
-Minna no Golf 1+2
-Arc the Lad 1+2
-WildARMS 1+2
-Alundra 1+2
-Motor Toon GP 1+2
-Carnage Heart+Zeus
-Xai+Jumbo
-IQ+Final
-Parappa+Lammy

...that'd get me on the PSP bandwagon quick. :)

I would welcome a new Jumping Flash on any platform with extremely open arms. There's just nothing like it, which is surprising considering how incredibly good the two first games are.

Naw, I've already played most of them. Besides, they're not realy in circulation anymore... I wonder if SCEI might consider doing a "PSmini" series of emulated PSone rereleases on PSP?
