Anyone know if you get the replay with the live ippv purchase for the smart mark stuff? I just got home and want to watch the rest of this but I'd like to watch the whole thing eventually.
CHIKARA lost me at the BDK stuff and before that, I felt like a lot of the shows were basically training shows and people cut CHIKARA a lot more slack and they would any other indie promotion. Like, if PWG had half a card that was the same as the random CHIKARA show, people would be shitting all over it.
Granted, I haven't watched one of their shows in probably 2 years at least now, so I might be far off on my assessment of their shows of today. However, Bret vs Bulldog in 1995 among the best matches of the 90s. So much more brutal, stiff, and bloody than what the WWF had been doing since the height of Hulkamania. Even the shithead ECW fans couldn't hate on it at all. And this was on the same show as the Hog Pen Match. The only thing I'd change about it is have less dual screens with Diana's reactions.
Was that the one where Jericho suggested the finish to Bret? I can't remember which one he was referring to but I think he said 1995.
Anyway, here's an awesome match:
Kenta Kobashi vs Jun Akiyama (10 July 2004) [English Commentary]
It's so weird watching a match where the commentators actually add to it. They put WWE and TNA to shame.
Crowd was on fire for everything. Signs everywhere. Every chant was loud. It feels right.
It's like the darkness spread to take over an entire corner of the ring now......Chikara will be consumed by darkness by the end of the show.
Is Sabato's picture supposed to be a reference to anything? It's flown over my head.
I think I agree with strobogo, Chikara can get too deep sometimes with their storylines.
Do they ever have matches for the tag titles that don't go to the third fall?
