I'm going to eat a huge crow here. I thought the CGI looked awful in the trailers and its still really iffy in a lot of scenes but I can NOT thank the director enough for shooting this on film. It made the CGI blend in a lot more in comparison to the bland digital look all modern blockbusters have these days. The movie made the Terminator Genysis trailer they showed during the previews look even more awful and fake than it already does.

I went in expecting to nitpick this thing to death and I ended up loving it. Watching the park in action, the throwback moments to the original movie.. It made me feel like a kid again. Even the whole raptor training setup was done really well. Amazing how it went from desperate looking in the trailers to a badass scene in the movie. Chris Pratt was great in his role but that's one of the few things I knew I was going to like from watching the trailers.

Goddamn what a FUN ride.

Godzilla last year, Pacific Rim the year before?

Ah that is true, though I dunno. Pacific Rim is more of a mech film, same with Godzilla being a single entity vs generic flying things.

I suppose they didnt come to mind because I didn't enjoy them all that much :[

I still think in a way what you said holds true.

Pretty much. Will be interesting to see the ideas for the next two. They said from the get go they had ideas for the sequels already thought of when filming JW.

I wonder if it involves
Henry Wu as the primary human antagonist. He survived, right? There's some material there they can build off of
.

Just watched it and after skimming the last few pages I haven't see anyone discuss this yet.
It looked to me that the T-Rex at the end of the movie is the original from the first movie. He has scars on his side from the ending of the first movie. Has this been discussed or noticed?
Also LOVED the movie. Wouldn't mind seeing it again.

A nice Alternate Reality website for the Park.

I cannot state how much I love that the official DJ of Jurassic World is called Kid Business.

Pratt is signed for a trilogy.

Can you give a source to this? :D

And saw the movie, it was good but I wasn't blown away. I literally hated half the human cast. Claire was the most annoying character, she never had a good redemption to me. Also the tone could of been better, sometimes it was dark then goes completely light hearted. Also last negative cheesy dialogue. But that being said... the ending man and dinosaurs delivered. :D
7/10

Anyone else find the Jimmy Fallon bit in the movie funny?
I cackled because he totally would sell out like that.

Um... sell out?

He does the Universal Tour, dude.

Can you give a source to this? :D

DJ Kid Business is Origins Nightclubs official DJ.

Origins is the official nightclub of Jurassic World.

Really, if you have not gone to the site yet, do it. Whoever made that site needs to win all the Cleo Awards.

As for Pratt being in JW2 and JW3...

Saw it with my best friend tonight. Given that the catalyst of our friendship was our shared JP love we both knew it wouldn't be right to see the movie without each other. I'm gonna do a full impression but being one of those fans who waited an agonizing 14 years for another I can honestly say that I loved it. Easily the best sequel, and I dont mean that as a backhanded compliment either.

Also, I went "full Interstellar" during the last twenty minutes. Tears everywhere.

I'm debating about seeing this tonight. I'm going to see what it with a friend on Thurs, but the anticipation is killing me.

YES!

YES!

Oh so I have finally seen it.

Critics picked the worst things to criticize because it shows ignorance. Too much time taking notes instead of watching the film me thinks.

As for product placement? Some people had me worried it was in your face bad. Mercedes was the only thing that felt forced. Fuck, guys.

I will give a fuller, cynic dismissing write-up later.

So where was that shit-smearing scene?

Just got home from seeing this.

Good things:
-The raptor bit is by no means as hokey as I thought it would be.
-CG/Practical is a nice mix. CG looks much better than the trailers.
-Bayformers needs to look at this to make people care about the Bots.
-Michael Giacchino hit the perfect mix of old notes and new themes.
-The whole sequence of
the reveal of the original "park", and everything about the third act/finale rocked.

What I wish they would've expanded on:
-Nothing about how and why they got the clearance on how to rebuild the park?!
-Would've loved more of an intro to Pratt training raptors. It should've started with him being approached about leaving the Marines and coming to train raptors...much like with the amber scene to start JP I
-I can't stress enough about the park just magically there. Why not talk about what's happened?

This was an amazing movie, one of my favorite popcorn summer blockbusters ever I'd say. It was just so much FUN. It was stupid in all of the right ways as well. The audience I watched it with cheered at many different moments and they applauded when the final credits rolled. I'm pretty sure a few people cried at certain parts also.

What an amazing time we had!

Did you see the multiple shots of the angsty teen putting on his headphones and then looking out the window so you could see the Beats by Dr. Dre logo?

Seeing the thread title, I came in expecting Gaf to be having a meltdown over a 69% RT. I'm surprised at the positive reaction. Can't wait to check this out tomorrow :)

I must say that I did hate the product placements, I always despise that. However, the final act was so amazing that I COMPLETELY forgot about that negative until I just saw you guys mentioning it.

Rewatching JP to get ready for JW tomorrow...

I'm surprised how fast Jurassic Park gets to the dinosaurs. The brachiosaurus reveal is only 20 minutes in. For some reason, I had always remembered it as dinos being revealed later into the film.

I'm curious, how fast does JW get to the dinos?

Was not a fan. Sorry GAF. Was tonally all over the place and just did not click with me. I don't have nostalgia for the originals, so that might play a part.

Sequels might be interesting. I don't think Trevorrow is returning which could help.

Also, the product placements were bad. I never notice that stuff but the Mercedes was so in your face.

I really liked it. I didn't think I'd enjoy it so much, maybe because I didn't have big expectations but I came out pleasantly surprised. The last 30 minutes were so good!

Godzilla did the whole Spielberg thing way better than this film did for me. Though they're both flawed movies, in different ways.

Who cares? And no, didn't even notice the brand. I heard people complain about the coke bottle too. It was hardly fucking there.

Fucking Reese's Pieces in E.T.

Good movie for sure, some parts will make you shake your head at how dumb they are. Fun, but dumb lol!

The kids in the movie were by far the worst part and every time they were on screen I cringed at the horrible acting.

Chris Pratt wasn't as great of a character as I thought he would be, lacked much depth at all.

That ending was so fun and a great climax for the film I thought.

7.5/10 worth seeing for the end bit if you like Dino's/ JP

Only brand I noticed was Mercedes.

Also,
Claire outrunning a T-Rex while wearing heels
was dumb.
The heels were just symbolism for her character. They were even called out and she still refused to take them off.

And I gathered
the T-Rex sensed the I-Rex and wasn't necessarily after Claire.

This movie was amazing. The entire third act was balls to the wall perfect and I was grinning like an idiot the entire time. Loved Chris Pratt. The kids were even tolerable.

Only problem I had was in the middle of the movie there was a pretty sadistic death that I don't think was warranted. Other than that - A+ movie.

I was hoping for a similar tone to JP- suspense, terror, and occasional action. JW switched it around to action with occasional suspense and terror, which doesn't make it a bad movie, just not the Jurrassic follow-up I wanted to see.

I can watch JP now and even after seeing it several times, I still get caught up in the delicious suspense. The decreased visibility from the heavy rain and dark skies and the sneaky velociraptors make for great moments of terror and it seemed like the characters were never safe. They felt totally helpless against the dinosaurs and had no other humans to support them.
In JW, however, I only detected a few whiffs of peril for our characters, and good portions of the movie are dedicated to humans being on the offensive. It felt more like the motivation was to eliminate the threat rather than escape it. The raptors are even on the same side as Chris Pratt, which made them seem more like poorly behaved attack dogs than terrifying and exotic wild animals. Instead of having a mysterious and seemingly omnipresent threat, we see plenty of the dinosaurs in their top-notch CGI splendor
aside from the one fan service scene with the animatronic dino
.
Also, none of the likable characters in the movie get killed or even injured, which made them feel a little bit invincible
. I didn't care for the
militarization
subplot either because it didn't ever seem to go anywhere. I guess the point was to emphasize that these creatures can't be tamed or controlled, but we already learned that repeatedly in the previous films.

But like I said, I enjoyed the movie. It was a decent action film with dinosaurs and some solid comic relief. The younger audience members in my theater seemed to just gobble it up. If there was no JP and this movie came out on its own, it might have been more well received. I guess I was hoping for Dead Space and got Dead Space 3 instead (or substitute whatever scary movie and its sequel you want).

I saw it today.

Negatives:

The (character)
kid was really
annoying in the first half, but fine the second half. One of the villains had kind of a silly plan. Chris Pratt's character was basically always the smart, competent one in charge, and the redhaired lady was super useless most of the movie. He also made a pretty offensive and obviously unwelcome pass at her early on.

Positives:

Beautiful scenery, cool-looking dinosaurs. The raptor parts were quite well done with Chris Pratt. The movie didn't feel near as longwinded and contrived as Lost World, and characters didn't feel super stupid. Action sequences through jungle and outdoor areas were fun. The theme park feel was done quite well with the voiceovers, music, etc. (besides the really random Jimmy Fallon cameo).

Overall, 7/10 for me.
