Just 100%ed Animal Well

Well 100% in the vein of a platinum trophy and seeing the true final ending. None of the speedrun related activities.

No spoilers ahead!!!

This game is a masterpiece. One person developed what is now in my top 5 games of all time. Every stitch of this game felt like it was massaging my brain. I did a vast majority of the game on my own and for the few things that require major outside help like the bunny mural I did google. However, it didn’t take away from my satisfaction or appreciate of the puzzle itself and how it was put together.

I pray Billy makes another game in his lifetime.

This was the first game in 20 some years I 100% completed and wanted a platinum trophy in.

Now the hunt for something on this level or even remotely close begins… games like this leave a giant void in me for months trying to chase this level of high.

I did also complete Tunic tonight and it had almost as high of highs. Where animal well is a 10/10, Tunic is a 8.5. Its puzzles in the end game felt more like a chore rather than enjoyment. D pad inputs that are way too long weren’t my cup of tea.

Aside from Outerwilds (which I’ve tried to get into 3 separate times and haven’t been able to), what else can folks recommend me? Maybe not even in the puzzle department genre but just incredible indie games?

I could list dozens I’ve played and loved but I need something to fill this void.

I really took my time with this game, explored the different places, found secrets, and eventually beat it. Loved it so damn much. Decided to look up a few things so I watched a video of all of the hidden stuff and whatnot. Turns out, there was like another 75% of the game I never knew about. This shit is literally crazy.

It’s soooo worth doing all 4 layers. I think total I spent 20 hours with the game.

I finished the first part and found most of the eggs. I YouTubed the rest.
It's a good game but for me very overrated.

For instance I find Environmental Station Alpha superior in every way. I use this game because they feel similar in many ways. Level design and meta puzzles.

For an incredible indy puzzle game I will always recommend the DROD series.
For 20+ years it's permanently installed on my pc. 5 main games plus tons of expansions and user made content. Many hundreds of hours of puzzle solving.
The community has now moved to Leaf's Odyssey. Made by a single person who is a huge DROD fan. I think I will make a thread at some point...

I had no idea videogamedunkey was making games or even alone 🧐

If you like this game please try his other game.

I got 6 or so Rabbits and gave up. There’s a point where it gets too convoluted. I will start any sequel with a pen and paper.
there’s an item you can get that detects treasures and highlights them in the room you are in.

Just this will allow you to get eggs at hyper speed.

When credits hit for layer 1, I had found over 40 on my own naturally without this item…

Not sure if sarcastic or not but dunkey is just funding as publisher.

He isn’t the developer. Billy Bassao made animal well.

I completed the eggs and main story, but things like having to trek across the map to find a random room, to randomly use a uv light, to see a code, then use that code to turn a duck into a rabbit somewhere else, is where it started to lose me.

I think when you feel the point of “this is a chore”, bust out google and get it done. No harm in it. You still appreciate how it all comes together.

For tunic once the codes were like 30+ characters long I was like “yeah I’m done solo sifting this manual for faeries.”

Yeah I disliked them in Tunic, there's no audio or visual feedback so it's attempt them 30 times and hope it randomly works once. Also there was an annoying part where you had to go through toxic gas to find the item to survive toxic gas, that's just daft in my eyes.
