Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

If the quality continues, Wii U will be looked back as a godlike console in ten years

More of a Gamecube 2 than a Wii sequel

I don't really care about sales, I mean I'm not making money off of this shit, but I'd like to see more people enjoy this awesome system

I love threads like these.

It's amazing that the people who constantly crap on Wii U have never actually messed with one.

I never crapped on the U. Ever. I grew up with and have always loved and respected Nintendo. Dont mistake me for the 75% of this forums population.

This thread is why you shouldn't buy consoles at launch. The OS is smooth now, there are enough games to have fun and great games are "soon". Perfect time to buy the console!

What? This thread? Im just being honest man. I never once gave this system the time of day last year (obviously).

This is just simply incredible. To me =D

It's like I just unwrapped my first NES all over again.

And I totally get the Cube references. God what a great system.

it's full of quirks and novelties that make it lots of fun to discover. the small things really make the console. like i was playing wii sports tennis earlier and i got in a local match and found out that miiverse messages pop up in local matches. the funny part about that is the demographic of the games whose messages can be not fully thought out, which is both charming and hilarious. they also pop up on the tablet when doing online and you can send them in the local multiplayer. the console has so many uses that it still feels fresh to me and i've had it since launch.

It is, and to be honest I cant believe how much Wii Sports Club is addictive and Wii FIt U is surprisingly fun

2013 has 3D World left to go. 2014 will see DK, Kart 8, Smash, X, Bayo 2, plus whatever has been left unannounced. Even if sales don't take off, Wii U owners won't have a lot to complain about.

I sense that to be the case as well. It's a great little system that's going to be relegated to cult status later on. Hoard those physical copies of games.

I can't wait to get my Wii U. I plan on getting the Mario bundle. I'm trying to decide whether I should go for the Best Buy Black Friday bundle, or purchase it on the 24th at Target, since it will come with a $25 gift card.

Same here. Tough decision

Best Buy Bundle: Wii U + Nintendoland + Mario Wii control= $320
Negative is having to deal with the lines and crowd or maybe selling out.

Target: Wii U = $300, Use $ 25 gift card for Mario Wii controller = $15 + Used copy of Nintendoland from Gamestop $15 =$330 or new copy from Kmart Black Friday $20. = $335

If you end up going with Target, you can also take advantage of buy 2 get 1 free.
Nintendoland $30 + Monster Hunter $30 + Ducktales $20 =80-20/3 = $20 per game.

I'm thinking of taking my chances at Best Buy because I want to take advantage of their 18 month no interest on purchases over $430.

Oh I wasn't referring to you specifically. Just the general attitude of GAF lately. Wants Nintendo to fail so they can buy the system for $150 and enjoy the games they claim to hate. Its a weird love-hate relationship here.

Yep. But the love hate relationship with companies is prevalent everywhere you look. It's who and why you pick and choose which gives you your ultimate feelings on everything else.

nintendo is pushing mario 3d world really hard down here, they hadnt done any marketing for the wii u since january

I enjoy the Wii U as well. Even more now since it has been a almost a full year now and more games are arriving. I own a total of 7 games for the console so far.

Excluding VC and indie's I own
-NSMBU+Luigi DLC
-Assasins Creed 3
-Tekken Tag 2
-Pikmin 3
-Monster Hunter 3U
-Wonderful 101
-Nintendo Land
-Game & Wario
-Scribblenauts
-Disney Infinity
-Wii Party U

And I love all of them, and by years end I plan to get SM3D World, Sonic Lost World and the Olympics Game

Also have Wii Sports Club and Wii Fit U. I really cant believe how much stuff I have on this system already

Probably my favorite system since at least GC and maybe SNES

I regret i got the following games:

- Duck tales
- Dungeons and Dragons

Duck tales is pretty boring. The stages are plain, the game exploration isnt satisfying. The cutscenes are annoying. The only redeeming part is the vault... And this lasts a few seconds.

Dungeons and dragons is what it is: port of two very Nice arcade games. But the fact that you can just shove as much quarters as you want in it kinda kills it for me. Its worst when playing online, theres no way to communicate with the other players (NO WAY) and everybody Just keep hitting continue until the game ends.

I really hate games with "infinite lives" which explains why i hate Lego games só much

Aside from those two, every game i got is great.

I loved Duck Tales, didnt get the other

I do feel like Wii U is sort of a spiritual successor to the Gamecube in its core games (and also the core Nintendo audience). It's only going to get better in a week and all of next year.

All it needs are some
good
Capcom titles.

Them it would be the Gamecube V2

Okami would do wonders on the gamepad

I expect a big capcom exclusive to be announced next wii U direct. There has never been a nintendo console that didnt have atleast 1 capcom exclusive that everybody loved

So skimp out on 3D world? I was planning on either pikmin/w101, mario next week and then zombiu at gs black friday for 10 dollars

I'd say SM3DW likely beats both it lives up to hype (Its EAD, hype isnt needed.

This system is just so beautiful.

Im getting joy out of simply entering and exiting out of games.

Goddamn.

I know its beautiful. I am having flashbacks to the GC. ("My" First console)

have you tried hitting the home menu while playing a game and then going to the browser and going to neogaf that works perfectly on it? While the game is still in the background.

Havent even tried the browser yet.

This is actually a pretty deep system when you lift up that shell. Holy shit.

In my Wii U first month in May I swear I was doing only that. PC was mainly a GAF/web machine so it stayed off almost the whole month. My electric bill was surprisingly a lot lighter

Well I bit the bullet and went ahead and picked up the Nintendoland Deluxe on my break along with The Wonderful 101. Kamiya's lovechild and Mario 3D World sent me over the edge, plus I havent seen many deals (Black Friday or otherwise) so I said fuck it.

Before anyone asks, I didn't pick up the Mario/Luigi U bundle because I didn't want a Mario overdose before next Friday. Plus, I look forward to getting used to the gamepad via Nintendoland (which you all said was pretty cool anyway).

I already have a wiimote+, chuk and original pro controller at home. But I do have a couple of questions before I dive in:

- Should I expect a 45 minute - 60 minute update as soon as I turn it on?

- Is there a noticeable visual difference with OG Wii games since they're running through an HDMI? I have a decent library of great titles that'd I'd love to see cleaned up a bit (Twilight Princess comes to mind)

- How does transferring my Wii VC games to the Wii U work? How does that $1.50 charge occur? I have Super Metroid and Super Castlevania 4 on my Wii. Will the U know that I purchased them already or something? I'm guessing I'm not going to be able to transfer over titles like Chrono, DKC or FFIII?

Hmm...so did you spend the $299 on the Deluxe model? If so, you could have gotten the Skylander Swap Force Bundle (came out today) for the same price and it also comes with Nintendoland. Still, sounds like you knew what you wanted so it might not have made a difference. Welcome to the club! I hope you have fun with the system. Just a week away until potential GOTY!
